I just went there today and I ordered the lobster roll, salmon skin roll, and the Philadelphia roll. The lobster roll was fantastic but the other 2 were awful so I asked to send those 2 back in exchange for 2 new ones. I ate those new ones and they were fine but once I got the check the waitress had overcharged me by $3 and I told her that I was being charged for an extra roll and she gave me so much attitude and said that next time I can't switch out rolls if I don't like them which is ridiculous! I would return if the waitress hadn't given me attitude but unfortunately she has lost a customer due to her horrible customer service. This is my other half's fourth time here this week. It's his new favorite place to eat. Shanty has been our waitress twice now and she's excellent. We now know to come in mon - thurs night so she can be our server. Food is consistently great - it's fresh tasty. The staff is great. Prices are great. It's Monday night and they are packed. Really f*ckin stingy with the spicy Mayo and eel sauce. I spend minimum $50 worth of sushi and when I ask for sauces they only give me 1 sauce am I suppose to dip my roll into the sauce and then pass it to my friends?? Is this how is works now? Lol i would tip good too but I stopped tipping ever since they began acting stingy with the sauces. Unbelievable quality for the price. I got my husband and I takeout tonight and we couldn't stop raving about how amazing everything tasted! Looks like they can be very busy. We stopped by around 7 pm at a weekday to order 5 rolls and two balls for 4 people. They said it will take an hour to prepare our rolls. Since they do have such good reviews and we live close by we agreed. One hour later still no call. One of us drove there, the order was not ready. Finally 30 min later we got the food. Everyone is rating this as the best. I can only rate is as ok. The Sushi selections are good but the quality is what brings them down. I ordered one of the Salmon rolls and got Salmon that was at least 4 days old. I can hardly call that as "Fresh". The Miso soup is actually pretty good. It has all of the basics of the traditional Miso by having the Bonito fish stock base with the mildness and reduced salinity. I did order the spicy lobster roll which was ok. For some reason it was not comprised of local lobster....What a shame since they are in season. The Yellowtail was only 3 days old, the Yellowfin was older than that. They do not have Toro or I would have ordered that and been able to give a full report here. The full breakdown goes as stated: California Roll rates as a medium grade and nothing special since it only has imitation crab and stale veggies. The Spicy California Roll: Was not much better than the California Roll. Where is the spice?? not here. Spicy Tuna roll: Was rather bland and really lacked what they call as "Spicey". I just don't see it here. Salmon Roll: This is perfect if one would like 4 or 5 day old Salmon. Way too mushy and lacking of freshness. Spicy Salmon Roll is rather the same thing as the Salmon Roll. Old fish and the addition of some kind of Kalbi tasting sauce. Salmon Skin Roll: This was a little different. Somehow this place gets fresher skin that actual meat. The roll was rather tasty and goes good with some wassabi. Tekka Maki: This roll is supposed to be Tuna. It actually tasted like Jack Mackerel which many restaurants use to cut the cost. blehhhhh Tai Maki: This roll was local Snapper which is not true Snapper. It was tasty and close to fresh but not a true Snapper. They should watch their purchases more carefully. Shiro Maguro Maki: This is the real deal. Albacore and nothing special. It was still not fresh but what do you expect for such low prices. Ebi Maki: You cannot fool anyone here. Shrimp is shrimp but this one was very soft and not fresh at all. It almost held up to the test but failed just short of hitting th e mouth. Hamachi Maki: Who are they trying to fool here? This is supposed to be fresh Yellowtail. It was soft, mushi and far from fresh. This kind of texture only occurs from freezing, defrosting and refreezing followed by a defrost. Freezin kills the cellular structure of many types of fish. Refreezing destroys all of the abilities of fish to be served on any restaurant table. The custom rolls are comprised of Crab meat and other ingredients. Pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase change to wording to "Imitation Crab Meat" That is all they put in it along with some of the other ingredients. The Wasabi, which is the staple of Japanese Sushi, is never fresh. I do realize that you cannot get the best for the price they offer but there should be somethin better with the Wasabi. It usually has a refridgerator taste to it and is no way close to having the proper breating time after being prepared. read more

This is also a 'safe' sushi place to take the picky eaters and sushi haters. Girlfriend is a picky ass eater? Take her here. Friends aren't big on sushi but like teriyaki chicken? Bring them here. There's plenty of fake-meat crab rolls, fried wontons and teriyaki bowls to go around all while getting your fill of albacore sashimi. So, go for it. You get what you pay for here. The 3 dollar rolls is kind of false advertisement. It's cheap but the rolls are what would be correct portions for a toddler. The upside is that you get to have more options since the rolls are cheaper but you get less food. If you think about it, it's the same as going to any sushi restaurant. The quality isn't the best. Song is the best sushi Chef ever! We stopped by this place after finding it on Yelp and thought we'd give it a try. Just a little place in one of those shopping centers, but we were excited to get out of the hot wind storm. We were pleasantly surprised with all of the choices, and finally decided on 2 rolls each. We were given our complimentary miso soups and a few minutes later our sushi came out very nicely plated. The $3 rolls are on the smaller size, but I wasn't expecting a giant roll for $3 anyway. I ordered the rainbow roll, and my first sushi was with the raw salmon on top. It tasted amazingly fresh. (I always judge my sushi on how fresh the fish tastes and the rice). Both were really good. After we finished our two rolls each we decided to order another roll. The sushi chef was making recommendations and helping us choose. After our fifth roll we were stuffed. THEN....to our surprise he brings this amazing plate of dessert. Deep fried strawberries, and two scoops of ice cream. I kept saying, "You're amazing, thank you!!" LOL. We got the bill and it was $24, I couldn't believe it. It was so cheap I was getting ready to leave a big tip. We split the check and when our receipts came back we both noticed you couldn't add the tip to your credit card. I was soooooo sad because neither of us had cash on us. I walked up to him and said please charge my card again because I want to leave you a tip. He said, "No it's okay." with a huge smile on his face. We argued for 5 minutes and then finally I said, ok well I'm coming back! He said, ok, and leave me a yelp review :). It was the perfect lunch, so glad to have found this place as I love supporting small family businesses and eating delicious and cheap food. I have only two complaints: 1. Why is this place not closer to my house!!?!? (I live in Culver City) 2. I'm so sad that I didn't know to add the tip to my balance before they ran my card. I work nearby, and this place is a god-send. The employees are amazing, the food is great, and the prices are perfect. I even brought my clinic's employees here and now it's a go-to for everyone in the clinic for a sushi fix. Take out is even better. Ive called ahead (busy and sometimes can take up to 45 min to get an order to pick up) but its always organized and great to take home. Plus they always remember to bring me a diet coke when I get there. You guys kick ass. Plan to keep supporting them during the Covid pandemic as much as possible too. This place feels like a fast food sushi place. There is a lighted board behind the sushi counter that has the menu on it. (Chicken is spelled chieken quite a few times which made me laugh). The place was empty when we arrived and there was only one guy working, but it was late on sunday so it was understandable. 3 more people came in right after us and took the bar so we took a table. They were served right away, but they were right in front of the guy, so that's understandable. You get free miso soup with your order of sushi. I ordered 2 vegetable rolls (cucumber, cabbage, carrots and avocado), my friend ordered a 911 roll (imitation salmon and cucumber inside, avocado, hot sauce and spicy mayo outside) and a Hot Night roll (imitation crab and avocado inside, imitation salmon, jalapeño and hot sauce on top). They only have canned and bottled drinks - not even glasses is water. My friend said that his sushi tasted like it was from Ralph's and that he's definitely had better elsewhere. Ah Roll Roll. This place has some good vibes. What I mean by this is that they have a very honest and unique business which no place I have been to does. What they do, is that they include tax into the price of the menu, so that way the price you see is the price you pay. This is fantastic to me, because I'm used to multiplying all menu items at restaurants by 1.265 to accommodate tax and tip, so just having to worry about tip is a nice change of pace. Aside from the pricing scheme, the actual prices are EXTREMELY reasonable, and straight forward. They have 3 pricing categories, $3, $6, and $10. The $3 scale has your simple rolls like spicy tuna, spicy, salmon, albacore, etc. The $6 has slightly more complex thing such as basic rolls with fish on top, or larger rolls with interesting topping or dipping sauces. Lastly the $10 scale has the specialty rolls, such as the rolls with lobster, or the french onion roll. On top of the 3 part pay scale, they also have extra appetizers like spicy tuna on rice cracker, and gyoza. They also have cool entrees such as bulgogi. Now for the food quality. The food quality here is a solid 4/5. It is better than average, but not the best. It hits a solid tier 2 on my scale (tier 1 being sugar fish or better). The fish tastes pretty fresh, and there is no fishy taste. The rice they use if you ask or rice on the side is jasmine rice instead of sushi rice, but thats not a big deal as its just a filler for me. They also give you free miso soup which is nice, and it is pretty tasty. The slight downsides is that the portions do tend to be on the smaller side. I would say the $3 simple rolls are about 75% the size of other sushi restaurants where you would order the same thing, but at those places the price is about double. Overall, this place does a lot of things right, and very little minor things wrong. The best part is for $12-$20 you can leave with a full sushi dinner, be pretty full, and be happy with the quality. The only time price would compete would be with all you can eat at Banzai sushi in calabasas, which gives $23 all you can eat for lunch, but even then the quality varies, and this is only for lunch. Roll Roll is consistent, and offers the most affordable and high quality sushi dinner you can get in the area. read more
