Ossian quickly adapted to my enthusiastic, question-filled personality while explaining what he observed about my posture and structure with clarity and kindness. Ossian's skill in Rolfing Structural Integration is second to none. He has a remarkable understanding of how the body's structures relate to one another and an almost uncanny ability to locate the areas that need attention. To boot, his genuine curiosity established an immediate sense of trust between us as practitioner and client. Our work feels deeply collaborative: he helps me understand the patterns held in my fascia and how I can carry that awareness beyond each session, becoming more mindful of how I hold and move my body. Following a long bout of pneumonia, I arrived for my first appointment feeling stiff and unable to breathe deeply without discomfort. After that session, I noticed that I could breathe normally--and breathing was not even the reason I had made the appointment. He also addressed the original issue that brought me to him (a painful ankle), with results I could both feel and see. I only wish I had come to him first before spending thousands on podiatry appointments and MRIs that had only exacerbated the original issue. I have now completed the full Rolfing Ten-Series and continue to see Ossian twice each month. For someone as sparkling, perceptive, and talented as he is, twice a month hardly seems sufficient. Oh man, where to start. Before making my appointment, i had no clue what rolfing was. To my understanding, it is the art of freeing up the linining that surrounds muscles and is apart of standard health care in some countries. My issues are a result from a car accident, four plus years in the hospitality industry, and stress from day to day life. I received physical therapy, chiropractic adjustments, and massages for at least a year. Yes, it helped and temporarily freed things up, but i never imagined my conditions would improve like they have with Ossian. Ossian alleviated my issues and went above and beyond. Not only did I feel improvement with my frequent areas of pain, but I also noticed and felt improvement with my posture, respiratory system, strength, spirituality, mood, and over all movement. The results are long lasting and if I was left unbalanced, Ossian was more than happy to revisit the spot. After our session that worked on upper body, i went to sit on top of a counter by pressing my hands on the counter to lift myself, i literally lifted myself well above the counter. Also i went back to yoga and noticed increased over all mobility. I am beyond grateful and blessed for having the opportunity to work with the gifted and intelligent person Ossian is! This review is a little overdue, but much needed and deserved. Let me start by saying I suffer from chronic back pain - at least I used to. I began going to Ossian and started my ten sessions a few months ago after the pain in my back was so unbearable that I couldn't stand it anymore. I tried everything- massages, chiropractors, the whole shebang, and nothing worked. I found Ossian on yelp and booked an appointment for the first available day after reading his glowing reviews. After the first session, I already knew I would do the whole ten sessions and be regularly coming back. Ossian is incredibly personable, gentle, and outrageously kind. The passion he has for his line of work is like nothing I've ever seen before, and watching someone practice what they love as much as Ossian does is an absolute treat. He is incredibly informative and guides you through each session before starting. He is attentive to personal needs and very, very respectful. Working with Ossian never felt uncomfortable, and if he worked on any areas that might be a little "iffy", would always ask about my comfort before continuing. I recently finished the ten sessions and feel like a new person. My posture is better than ever, the pain in my back is almost completely gone, and I feel a million times better emotionally as well. Completing a 10 Series with Ossian was one of the top 5 best things I've ever done in my life. He is not only superbly talented at his chosen field, but has also become a trusted friend. Ossian is the only practitioner (out of dozens of chiropractors, a physical therapist, another Rolfer, and two orthopedic doctors) to have successfully fixed an issue with my neck that had been bothering me for well over 5 years. As a bonus, I notice my gait is lighter and easier, my feet feel grounded, my muscles crave stretching and movement like they did when I was heavy into yoga a few years ago, and I just feel plain *good*. After completing the 10, I had messed up my neck doing something dumb and thought I was in for a week of pain until I could get in to see him or a chiro, but my neck fixed itself by the next morning. This was something Ossian had mentioned to me almost in passing - that Rolfing allows you to bounce back and not to fear "messing it up." This is a benefit that far exceeds my expectations. Ossian is a gifted and generous healer. He is highly intuitive and he listens carefully to what you say and what your body tells him. I haven't had the 10 part series because I don't live in Reno, but I've left the few sessions I've had feeling calm, elated, relieved of the pain of old injuries.
