I'm a new patient and they took me in the same day I call . had a bad toothache and Dr. Chew was very thorough and took X-ray of my tooth and referred me to one of his specialists right away ! My wife came in to get a filling for a tooth. A week later she was having tooth pain and tried to go back to see the doctor. He sent her home without any treatment or explanation. What kind of clinic sends patients home? Apparently Dr Chew Stay away from this place. I too felt a little weirded out about this guy when taking to him. Nice guy but way overpriced. $100 bucks for new client orientation, another $200 for x rays. Also, costs aren't disclosed over the phone or when you first go in. They should be more upfront. Also, don't expect to have your teeth cleaned during your first visit. It's just a consultation about your health conditions. You will have to come back another day for the cleaning. Wish they'd tell you this over the phone? Also, prepare to receive a bill 30 days later that's probably not what you expected. But to give credit, it's a clean office. Bottom line, you can find the same dentistry services elsewhere for a more reasonable price. read more

I came in to get a filling for a tooth last week. A few days later I was feeling discomfort and the nerves around my tooth were so sensitive, i couldnt even eat. I tried to go back to fix the issue and Dr Chew refused to work on my tooth insisting everything was fine. Maybe he botched the job so badly, he didnt want to further ruin my tooth so he got scared?. I'd like to not think that was the case, but who knows. And as another patient mentioned, his prices are higher than average. I've been a patient of Dr. Chew's for approximately 7 years or so. Every and every one of my appointments have been pleasant and have had no issues (other than my teeth of course). Dr. Chew came recommended to me from a family friend. His office is very nice as they just moved and have all state of the art equipment. I've been seeing him for a couple of years now hoping my opinion of the practice would change. For starters, his front desk staff lacks the know how and communication skills to properly leave messages regarding appointment times or changes in scheduling. In addition, whether or not certain treatments are covered by insurance aren't always communicated properly and I wasn't informed until checkout. His hygienists are very nice, but love to talk while they have their hands in your mouth allowing everybody to hear your conversations as the workspaces are open. They ask the same questions over and over again, such as, "Do you drink a lot of wine, coffee, or tea? Do you floss?" It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that if I've answered it once before, chances are the answer is still yes. Just clean my teeth and move on. I get it that they are trying to be personable, but I can't answer your questions while you're cleaning my teeth and really don't feel like talking while i'm at the dentist. In regards to Dr. Chew, he seems to be a thorough dentist, however, he also seems like he is all about the almighty dollar and is constantly checking-in and recommending procedures that aren't necessary or covered by insurance (i.e. veneers, replacement crowns, invisalign). They're really good an enticing clients to make referrals. He seems a bit arrogant and not once has told me I have nice teeth (which I do). He definitely focuses on the cosmetic aspect of dentistry rather than genuine customer service. Every time I go there, I leave feeling like I have a mouthful of ugly teeth. Definitely not a smart sales tactic to get me to come back and spend thousands of dollars on cosmetic procedures. At one of my visits, Dr. Chew, cleaned my teeth himself and broke something inside of my mouth and didn't apologize. He said it was no big deal, fixed it, and sent me on my way. I've had better, but my dentist retired and that's how I ended up with Dr. Chew. I've since switched and will not be back and do not recommend Dr. Roland Chew for a good long-term dentist. read more

I have been a patient of Roland G. Chew, DDS for over 10 years. 3 years ago, I had a root canal and Dr. Chew put in a porcelain crown. Two weeks ago, the crown cracked. I contacted my insurance and they declined to pay for a replacement because it has been less than 5 years. I explained this to Dr. Chew hoping that he could fix my crown and adjust the cost, since this was the 2nd time that his porcelain crowns have failed. Dr. Chew refuses to acknowledge me as a patient and clearly he does not value long term patients. Subsequent to this, I was erroneously billed for services / visits that were rendered over a year ago and were never submitted to my insurance in the first place. I would not recommend this dentist to anyone because he does not stand by his work and he does not value his relationship with his patients. read more

I've been going to Dr. Chew's for over 12 years. My family and I have followed him to his various offices, each better than the last. Dr. Chew is always great, very knowledgeable and always friendly. His staff are also very nice and super friendly. They call you by your name as you walk in. I once had a crown fall off and Dr. Chew and staff opened the office on an off day so he can fix my crown. Not many people would do that! I usually get my teeth cleaned by Betty. She is awesome and again super friendly. She remembers your name, family and happenings in your life. I moved 8 years ago and my family and I still drive from Brentwood to Fremont to see Dr. Chew. My daughter (5 y/o) asks to go to the dentist. You can't ask for more. read more

Dr Roland Chew was my dentist for many years. He is no longer. Xrays that I never had were billed for. Xrays became the straw that broke our long relationship. I had my physician write a letter ( at Chew's request) stating that I had the right to refuse Xrays. I was there for a cleaning and was interrupted by Kim who told the Hygienist to stop and not to clean unless I had Xrays. Poor Betty (the nice hygienist) stopped. Kim the insisted on calling my Dr. saying that the letter wasn't enough. The Dr, refused to give her any medical info. This infuriated Kim. She posted something on Craig's List pretending to be me. The next time I saw her I asked how her day was going. She answered "Fine, till I saw you.!" I told Dr. Chew this and he was so wimpy I had enough of the unprofessional treatment. read more
