IT'S ALL IN THE DETAILS! And Rogue River Outfitters knows it!
I'll never do anything outdoorsy with anyone but Rogue River Outfitters. RRO is a family owned and operated business, and when you're with them, you feel like family. Craig Hughson is a second generation river guide, and is THE BEST. We did a 3 day camp/lodge rafting trip and I have never had so much fun. It was just rugged enough for this Hollywood gal to gain some outdoor credibility, but in reality, the accomodations were quite lovely and comfortable.
You can go on a paddle raft, a kayak, or a large (cruise) raft. I was on the paddle boat for most of the trip with Jonnie (Hanley). The guy knew so much about the river, it's history, the wildlife and all the native flowers, plants, and trees and rock formations. Eventually I just started asking questions to see if I could stump him..... I was unsuccessful. Bob (Bryant) was our third river guide. He is also fantastic and has the patience of a God. I know this because he was stuck with my teenage brother and cousin most of the trip (who, honestly, NEER shut up. The man deserves a medal of honor for being so lovely in such hard times.
The first night, we camped on a lovely little beach. When we got there, everything had been set up for us, even a little outhouse. Then guides got started on making an INCREDIBLE dinner for us. Buttermilk biscuits, tri tip, marinated chicken, and so much more. Tina Hughson makes her famous raspberry and blackberry jam, as well as spicy mustard for the trip, and sends it downriver for everyone to enjoy. I was most impressed with the food spread. I thought we were going to have some lame sacked lunch (apparently many other Rogue River trip companies do that) and I was NERVOUS since I have frequently been called a picky eater. However, the food spreads for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, were amazing. There was a lady on my trip who had a gluten allergy and RRO took care of everything for her and was very accomodating. If you have dietary restrictions, just let them know ahead of time and they will make sure you are taken care of.
The second night we stayed at the historic Paradise Lodge. While the accomodations were comfortable and lovely, the food they provided was not as impressive as what Craig, Bob, and Jonnie put together. But it was still really nice. The lodge has a disc golf course, a museum, and a bunch hammocks and other secluded sitting spots for you to read / catch some quiet time in.
All in all, I had an amazing trip. We made some great new friends, shared a lot of laughs, and shared an incredible, once in a life time type experience. This is the kind of trip you will remember forever. I'm sad it's over, but I'm already plotting a return trip in the fall for salmon fishing. read more
