We went to Roger's and they have excellent music! The band Throwin' Stones was playing. The menu was written on a board outside and there was no paper menu inside. It doesn't have all of the items they have on the board either so you either have to know or ask. We got the pretzels and cheese and they were yummy. I appreciate that they give you enough cheese for all of the pretzel bites and the pretzels were nice and warm. You can definitely smell the smoke from outside even though smoking is not allowed inside. read more

I remember Roger's Place when it operated out of a very shady motel that was torn down, decades ago. It was very different from the current location. When it was at the motel, there wasn't room for 20 chain smokers to huddle up next to each other and hotbox the entire room. People keep posting on here that they "heard Roger's Place has great hotdogs," and that "they are reported to be the best in Knoxville. Of those people, I wonder "who are these people hanging out with," and "who is telling them that Roger's Place has great hotdogs?" I don't mean to offend anyone, but it would require the "lowest of standards" for someone to deem that Roger's Place has the best hotdogs in Knoxville. They appear as though they cone out of a microwave with cheap canned chili and a blanket of roughly chopped onions. Nothing special here. If you drink enough, you might start to believe the coworker who told you that they are the "best hotdogs in Knoxville." Unless you are dead set on catching emphysema, you may want to go elsewhere. read more

Roger's was the first bar I went to when I moved to Knoxville in 1978. Still go there weekly. Fun place with good hot dogs and live music.

It's a lovely little low-key place! It's a great place to relax, but I'm not a fan of the stools and tall tables. The don't serve much in the way of food, except for hot dogs. The bartender is nice and remembered details about me even though I hadn't been in a couple months. Great service! Edit to include more details: I'm not sure about the type of beer they serve. Normal? All I know if my cider isn't an option. Live music is performed on most nights. They have amazing bands. And if you smoke (you shouldn't) there's a cover smoker's patio (which you shouldn't use because you shouldn't smoke). read more

This place is awesome for what I like. Quiet, low key, fair drink prices and snacks!! It's in little strip mall on the end and they have an outside covered seating smoking area. Smoking is no longer allowed inside but that's ok. Great people and good convos all night!! Their Chili dog and fries is fantastic. read more

Roger's Place is off Kingston Pk in the Baron's Place shopping center across from Rothchild Conference Center. Roger's Place is a small local dive bar. Roger's Place has a patio and the basic beers on tap, nothing fancy here. Roger's Place hosts a blue's night every Tuesday and is rumored to have "World Famous Hotdogs." I dropped by Roger's Place on Sunday afternoon right before closing to sample the hotdogs I keep hearing about. My only option at the late hour was a hotdog with mustard, onions and chili. I got a double order and was underwhelmed. The hotdogs were ordinary and the chili tasted as if it came from a can. Nothing overtly spectacular here but maybe it is because Roger's Place was about to close. The Staff was pleasant and helpful. The bathrooms are small and the interior was clean. Roger's Place seems to be working on the ceiling because the rafters and wiring were all exposed. I might have to give Roger's Place another chance. It's been open awhile and does have a reputation. read more

This place is so far okay. I am going to visit it again which may change my review. The drinks were a bit expensive and the bartender was a bit on the "rude" side, but, maybe a bad night. I do love the fact that this place is only a bar with a non-smoking and smoking section, with a band. It was a bit more "rough" which I loved, and there were people there that knew one another and it seemed to be a local bar, which I loved. I haven't left a bar smelling like this in 15 years. If you're looking for a depressing place to drown your sorrows while smoking cigarettes, you have found it. Other than that, stay away! This place has a bad beer selection, a boring and old clientele, and reeks of cigarette smoke. They pride themselves on their hotdogs. I don't know why, it was a cheap microwaved hotdog with crappy hot dog chili on it. At least the place is cheap. read more

I was at Roger's Place Tuesday, June 7. The atmosphere was great, there was live music, and the people who sang were fantastic. Unfortunately the rude bartender messed it up for me a few times. He got annoyed with me for ordering a soda, then later when I asked if they sold food he gave me a very short no and walked away. No less than two minutes later, a man asked about food and the bartender said there was popcorn and hot dogs. Now I was wondering why that option wasn't presented to me. So i decide to go up and ask for a hot dog and the bartender said that they weren't selling them anymore, and then walked away before I got a chance to ask another question. When he came back I wanted to know what time do they normally close the kitchen, and his response was "we normally don't even stay open this late." It was 12:30 at the time, I'm not sure if the bar normally closes at 1? Anyway if you're into live music this is the place for you, but I would not recommend any interaction with that particular bartender if there are more than 12 people in the building, apparently he gets overwhelmed. read more

I ate there this evening, and I found the general experience to be lack luster at best. I will say that the drink prices are fine, not the best in town, but not outrageous by any means. The food, on the other hand, I find wanting. A friend of mine had two hot dogs, both with the 'homemade' chili and coleslaw. I honestly can not see the appeal of the chili. Seemed to me to be the standard food distributor, Skyline style chili with just a bit of kick added. Still, at two dollars, I did not feel it was that much of affront, but what really killed the experience for me were the bread stick. At four dollars, I generally expect something described in the menu as bread sticks, covered in cheese and a side of marinara dipping sauce, to be some Italian style bread, shredded and melted mozzarella and generic red sauce. What was served to me were two hot dog buns, cut into eight pieces with tasteless cheddar. I am not a food snob, I eat at Taco Bell, and generally let sub-par food roll, but this was almost offensive. I know they profit margins on this lazy, haphazard 'dish' must be amazing. I wanted to take it back to the bar and ask them if they themselves would feel comfortable eating this in a restaurant or bar; I know the culture of bar food is not amazing, but to show this level of disregard toward your product makes me feel less valued as a customer. No amount of cheap beer can flush that taste from my mouth. read more

I went into this DIVE as a sound guy for a Pro band and ended up almost having to fight with a table of customers that had more than alcohol in there system. The staff was unable to control them, even after they were ask to leave. This table was out of control. Screaming to the Band You Suck. And even after ask to leave one person from this table could not help himself he had to come over to the stage staff and proceed to continue the rant. We were within seconds of a physical engagement. After he was told to leave by the band staff, and saw that he was out numbered. they took off down Kingston Pike the wrong way. We called the cops then. We will not be back. read more
