Roger's Chocolates was a new chocolate brand to me and certainly the reason why is that it's a Canadian brand and even though it's very close to us our trips up there are quite infrequent. We got a regular milk chocolate bar and that sucker is rich and dense. One row of chocolate squares after a meal and I'm good. The chocolate bar definitely isn't American corporate chocolate and actually tastes like chocolate as opposed to anything else. If you're like Steve and me and just want a little bit of richness and a tad of sweet then this chocolate bar is right up your alley. If you have the stamina and metabolism to eat one of these in one sitting I'd love to record the experience (just kidding, I probably wouldn't actually). The quality of their chocolates really surprised us. I think my husband said it best. I mean, who knew that Canada had such great chocolate? The Heritage Store was closed when we arrived during our BC Bites & Sights tour. Fortunately, we were able to see some of it through the window. It's an architecturally historic building & shop. It was a treat just to see the old wooden built-in shelves, leaded glass decor, and stained glass half dome entryway that appears to be a Queen Anne Revival style of Victorian architecture. I don't know, it could be a mixture of different styles. All I know is that we saw a lot of this during our tour. They saved us a rather large, and individually wrapped, vanilla cream chocolate as part of the tour. I'm not usually a fan of flavored cream chocolates. I remember getting stuck with that one piece of Russel Stover chocolate that nobody wanted. Well, this vanilla cream one was nothing like that. It's on a totally different quality level. Let's just say that we loved it so much that we placed a mail order of various flavors. My BYO 5 pack included flavors such as maraschino cherry, rum, coffee, blueberry, and dark peanut butter. I also bought a cute tin full of various types of chocolates. This assortment had a few of their signature Empress Squares as well. Everything is (or was) delicious! We're still going through the box. So far, we love all of them. The "Whale Song" by Dana Statham is a great keepsake. We saw whales when our cruise ship was entering Victoria Harbour. It's what I would have bought if the store had been open on that very late Friday evening. Heck, I probably would have bought more had it been open after 10:30pm. Maybe it's a good thing that it was closed. I saved the best for last. The prices are actually pretty decent. Get them while you're there. I can't say the same about their shipping fees to Florida (hot climate). They did arrive in great condition via FedEx. I'd order again, but it would only be once a year due to shipping costs. One of the oldest chocolate shops in Victoria. We love chocolate so had to stop in. It is a pretty small shop. They had a good selection and staff greeted us as we walked in. Prices are a bit high and we just got a couple of pieces. The chocolate was good but the coconut filling in my piece was a bit dry. Beautiful products on the shelves were very enticing. We were on a cruise that was coming to an end, so I limited myself to a small bag of "Mystery Cream - seconds". I think that I've able to figure out most of the cremes that I've tried so far. I'm hypercritical on chocolate. My preference is Dark rather than Milk and I prefer a minimum of 72% cacao. Bittersweet is my jam. You will never see me eating a Hershey's Milk Chocolate Bar. For those with a sweet tooth, I think Roger's will float their boats! read more

I never pass a chocolate shop without stopping in. Especially a really historic one like Rogers' that is brimming with goodies. It was pretty crowded and the friendly staff directed me to their bestsellers (the Victoria Creams). I got a couple - the marzipan (ok) and the peanut butter (YUM). Very pleased to have visited this iconic chocolate shop. I must've ordered 20 individual chocolates for everyone I know. I love the decor, the ambiance, the cute employee uniforms, and of course the endless rows of chocolate. The employee that served me was patient and informative and very friendly. She advised me on which to get and which were most popular. Might be a tourist trap but it's absolutely a must if you're on the Island. Before they couriered it to Ontario, they actually checked when cooler weather was forecast, AND PLACED AN ICE PACK IN THE BOX. This is a class organization. Expensive but you get what you pay for. We were in Victoria, BC a few weeks ago and came up on this cute chocolate shop near the Empress Hotel and Chinatown. They tell me this shop is from the late 1800's and has shops throughout British Columbia. Further research noted that this was their "Heritage" store and the company was founded in 1885. Cool! The Interior reminded me of an old school chocolate shop with dark wooden shelves stacked high with boxes of chocolates. A glass display case also had individual pieces available for sale. The store clerk offered a piece of chocolate and gave me a fancy catalog (37 pages) listing seasonal and year-round available chocolates. I opted for a box of their Miniature Victoria Creams, Sea Salt Caramels, and Dark Chocolate Covered Gingers. Not being a chocolate connoisseur, I am ok with See's, Godiva, etc... I thought these chocolates were as good or better. I liked the Ginger the best while the wifey liked the Sea Salt Caramels. Eventually split the Caramels and Creams with my Bro and S-I-L. Just got around to eating... Overall, cute place, nice people, decent chocolates, and liked it because we weren't looking for the shop but came upon it accidentally. I have been traveling to Victoria at least every other year, sometimes more often, for most of my six decades + life. Rogers' Chocolates is always a must-stop. All of our friends anxiously await the selections we bring back to them. First, you have to love the fact that you're dealing with a business that has been in the same shop since 1903! How many businesses to you know that have been behind the same front door for 116 years? The building is pretty much the same as it was built, and inside it looks just like an old-time chocolate shop. Secondly, Rogers is a Canadian company, with all of it's stores located in British Columbia, so you really are enjoying a local treat, not a global chain that happens to have stores there. Finally, the chocolates are unique and very good. They have a nice assortment, but the wife and I prefer the creme filled dark chocolates. Whenever we go up to Victoria, our friends give us orders for all their favorite fillings. They are super rich and go great with a nice, red wine or a cup of coffee. The staff is always friendly and helpful. We've never been ignored, nor do we feel rushed. If you're not heading up to B.C., I think you can order from their website, but not sure about that. read more

Oh my gosh! My first dose of Christmas spirit this year came in the form of the Rogers' Chocolates store. The window display is absolutely amazing - it's full of Christmas trees and little snowy village... and a train set, that is apparently owned by and maintained by the current Mr. Rogers himself. Although this is just a tiny little shop, it packs more holiday cheer and more chocolate into a space that I even thought possible. From truffles lining the walls and display cases to many a box of chocolates you can take home to your friends, there's something for everyone. I was on the hunt for a few gifts for some locals back here in San Diego, and I decided to pick up some Advent calendars. I love Advent calendars, but once filled with quality dark chocolate are the best. I really suggest that you get some if you're in the area. They actually stock both milk chocolate and dark chocolate options so you can take your pick. The service was super friendly and I had my boxes of chocolate under my arm quickly and with a smile. The best thing about this place is the ambience. It's a charming chocolate shop. That being said, the chocolates are less expensive. But I took one bite and threw the other half away. It tasted like old ingredients, waxy chocolate, and I do not recommend it unless you just are desperate for a Chocolate Fix. Oh boy. I'm going to sound like such a chocolate snob here. I am by no means a connoiseur of chocolate, but I do go out of my way to try a variety of chocolatier's where ever I can find them. So while Roger's chocolate may indeed be good chocolate, it's not good compared to what I have had before. In fact, it was shockingly bad. I was really excited to try this place out. Yelping it before I even made my way up from Seattle. I saw photos that made it look like the candy store from Willy Wonka. So I HAD to come. Associates were great. Very helpful. Nothing wrong with the overall experience and price was actually better than what I've spent before. But it just came down to the quality. And it wasn't there. It was even below See's candy and Godiva which is a pretty low bar in my book. See, told you I was going to sound like a snob. You hate me. I can tell. It's okay. I'd hate me too. My first mistake was getting the Cuba Libre, having forgotten that one night with my brother-in-laws bottle of Nicaraguan Rum that my family won't shut up about. I immediately looked at my wife, gave her an ugly face and shook my head. That was my bad. Roger's not to blame. But then I tried the salted caramel which should always be an obvious winner. But surprise again, I couldn't take a second bite. (In fact I'm looking at it now. And it's looking back at me with big sad puppy eyes... stop it salted caramel, you're creeping me out.) Unlike the salted caramel I get at Fran's in Seattle where I toss them in my mouth like popcorn and silently judge my inner fat boy for having zero will to stop myself from indulging until I cry myself to sleep in the fetal position due to severe abdominal pain. If you read this, (can't believe you got this far) and you do a bit of travel, or if you're just in the Seattle area, try Fran's chocolates (Seattle/Bellevue) or Leonidas (Portland/Sweden) And tell me I'm wrong. Order them online. I challenge you. It just doesn't compare. read more

This falls somewhere between a 3 and a 4. Service was very friendly so I'll give it a 4. The chocolates are good, but not top notch. Definitely better than Chocolate Favoris (I bought some truffles there as well) but not quite as good as some of the top tier chocolates I've had. These most closely remind me of See's chocolates although I think See's may have the edge on flavor especially with their caramels. That could be bias talking. I grew up eating See's candy. I bought two caramels and four truffles. The quality of chocolate is very good. They have a nice thick chocolate shell on their candies. This is lacking in many places that make fancier truffles and think that a thin chocolate shell indicates a high level of craftmanship. I'm sure it does, but when I buy chocolates I want to taste chocolate. The inside should be pronounced but still a great complement to the chocolate flavor. The truffles and caramels here certainly deliver on the chocolate (and were sturdy enough to survive the trip home without a box). The flavors are not the most inventive, but they are pretty strong and distinctive. I ordered a rum chocolate and I could tell that this was probably that fake rum flavor. But I didn't care because I love that flavor (See's makes a stellar rum chocolate chew that is one of my favorite candies ever). The whisky chocolate and the sea salt caramel were also good. I love that this shop has been around for so long and the Christmas decorations were really festive. Prices are reasonable. I would recommend a visit. read more

How I heard of this place: When aboard the Victoria Clipper, a three-hour cruise across the Puget Sound, through the Straight of Juan de Fuca on our way to Victoria's Inner Harbour, I had a little time to peruse the Clipper Magazine. Many of our weekend activities and eateries came through this little publications' recommendations, among them Roger's Chocolates! Type of cuisine: "Rogers' Chocolates is steeped in tradition and a rich history that has earned us our reputation as one of Canada's premiere chocolate makers. The first Rogers' chocolates were made in 1885 by Charles "Candy" Rogers in the back of his grocery store in Victoria, B.C. He quickly became a popular man. In 1891, Rogers expanded his chocolate operation to the company's current heritage storefront on Government Street in Victoria and the rest, as they say, is history. Many of "Candy" Rogers' original recipes remain untouched since 1885 and form our "Classics" product line to this day." Ambiance: Warm tones and a rich, chocolatey aroma surround us as we enter the doors of the smallish, square space that is Roger's Chocolates on Government Street in downtown Victoria. Displays of chocolates, gift boxes set atop the glass and in the wooden vanities around the room delight the eyes and give the tastebuds something to water about. Good chocolates cramped store. The chocolates are decent, a little overrated in my opinion but still pretty good. The store is ridiculously small for how many tourists come in here and you can barely turn around without bumping product or person. It makes the shopping experience very unpleasant and all you want to do is gtfo of there. Chocolate selection is limited considering that's all they sell. Their chocolates are great, no argument. However their shipping procedure has a lot of room for improvement. My issue: I order a box to be shipped to Nevada and unfortunately I provided an incorrect address and zip code. Rogers contacted me within one week of the order and I gave them the correct address and zip code. I presumed that all was well. I never received any kind of confirmation that the problem had been resolved and forgot to follow up. BIG MISTAKE. The original order was placed on March 7, 2023. I contacted the recipient today, April 13th, and was informed that no package had arrived. I contact Rogers and their customer service department said they would investigate. They called me back to say that the package had been held up at the border and they would see what they could do to resolve the issue. I questioned the decision to send a shipment of chocolate that was at least 6 weeks old and was informed that once it leaves their place it is considered a closed sale and their is no possible recourse. I then asked if that was their policy I would no longer be ordering from them and was told that I should do what I felt was appropriate. 1 hour later I was contacted by Rogers and informed that they would send out a new order, with a cold pack, considering the destination was Nevada at no additional cost to me. Wow, I don't know if they saw the previous review but I am happy to say that I will still continue to use them whenever the need arises. read more

Very decent chocolates and nice place to stop for a little treat! We had $5 Canadian to use before leaving that night, so why not use it on truffles! My hubby stopped across the street for cigars, so now it was my turn. We'd already had dinner and dessert, so I definitely was interested in their small truffles, not their large ones. The two girls working in there were very friendly, helpful with all of my questions, and even offered samples of their Krispy bark. It was milk chocolate and delicious! I picked the orange truffle and the PB truffle. I was surprised that the orange wasn't chocolate inside, but a super sense and sweet white paste. And the PB was missing something....salt? read more

Calling all coffee crack addicts..... calling....calling........ ding ding ding BEST F'IN COFFEE THIS SIDE OF THE MISSISSIPPI.....hahhhaha Seriously yelpers, I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed their coffee. For example this little 8 year old girl ordered a peach fizz; it consist of peach syrup with cherry syrup plus soda water and a big scoop of vanilla ice cream.
