Through her insight, honesty and benevolence, it's hard to imagine anyone not walking out of her office feeling more positive about life. Since the start of our sessions, she has always shown great empathy and trust, but her valuable clinical skills have also led me to create new and exciting goals; we've even had a few breakthroughs already. Her location in Nob Hill is convenient for most; her fees are more than reasonable; the meeting room is comfortable and well lit; and she's flexible when scheduling visits. For anyone seeking therapy in the Bay Area, Jessica should be your only choice. Seriously.

I was referred to Dr. Valerie Hearn by a friend of mine when I was going through a rough patch…read moreyears ago after a break-up with Mr. Wrong. I had tried therapy in the past but didn't get any benefit from the therapist's passive approach. Dr. Hearn was just what I needed. We talked about my childhood and past but didn't dwell on it... right away she helped me focus on the present and developing the tools I needed to get out of my habit of repeating the same relationship over and over again. She is a licensed psychologist who comes from the cognitive behavioral therapy perspective, and I think this approach really clicked for me. She is wonderfully empathetic and caring, but she also offers great wisdom and guidance in dealing with what's happening in your life TODAY. There are several things I learned from her that I will carry with me always. Valerie helped pull me out of a dark place when I first starting seeing her. She coached me through dating and saw me through a new relationship and break-up with Mr. Wrong Part Deux. She was endlessly encouraging as I went through the online dating process. For the first time in my life, I learned to ask for what I needed in a relationship and took responsibility for my actions. I am absolutely convinced that working with Valerie helped me find the way to my current happiness... I found Mr. Right at last, yes on the internet, and am now married with a beautiful baby boy. Of course, my then-boyfriend-now-husband and I did some sessions with Valerie prior to getting married... couples counseling is another one of her many gifts.

I was desperate to move on, and take control of my anxieties. Within just a few weeks, Valerie helped me recover the self-confidence and optimism that I once thought the world had beaten out of me for good! She's not only helped me be more assertive socially, she's helped me repair my love life. Furthermore, with her help, I've been getting along with my family better than ever before. What I think I like most about Valerie is that - as other reviewers have mentioned - she's not passive. Sure, she's a good listener, she's attentive, and she's compassionate, but she's also very clear and direct and precise in the way she communicates her understanding of the situation. I leave every session feeling refreshed. Thanks, Valerie!

This review is for Dr. Philip Zhi-Jiar Zhuang…read more One of the WORST psychiatrists I've ever had to deal with in my life. This doctor works at the Chinatown North Beach Mental Health Clinic, where I had been going to for years previously and had absolutely zero problems. However, my original psychiatrist left so I was forced to see Dr. Zhuang. My first appointment with this "doctor" had to be rescheduled because he initially thought my appointment was for another day, despite telling me otherwise. On my second appointment, I knew things were going to go downhill as soon as I saw him: he didn't bother introducing himself and barked at me to sit down. First impressions go a long way. During our appointment, he accused me of searching out drugs to abuse, despite the fact that I had been going to this clinic for YEARS and all my medical records were on file. I was NOT a new patient to this place. He demanded that I bring in additional documentation and refused to look at my medical files, saying he didn't care if I was diagnosed by a different doctor. He then proceeded to interrogate me about whether or not I was using heroin and cocaine in an accusatory tone. Towards the end of our "interview", he told me he believes I have a different diagnosis and tried to push different drugs on me. This was after the first twenty minutes of meeting me. Additionally, he asked me about my suicide attempt a few years ago and was extremely cold in his replies. I don't expect you to hold my hand, but HAVE SOME FUCKING CONSIDERATION. YOU'RE DEALING WITH PEOPLE WITH MENTAL ILLNESS. My favorite part of the appointment is when he kicked me out and didn't bother asking me to schedule a follow-up appointment. I have no idea how this man managed to obtain a medical license, considering how disrespectful and unprofessional he is.

He will change your life and the impact with ripple through out your life…read more The Mind/Body Foundations training has truly changed my life. Looking back to where it all started, I realized that adopting a beginner's mindset and approaching life with a child's curiosity played a huge role in my growth. This program gave me a remarkable gift - understanding and compassion, not just for others but for myself, too. Learning to truly listen helped me connect with people on a deeper level. I've also learned to spot when something's bothering me and not react impulsively. Instead, I've become better at settling within myself and giving myself space for some self-reflection - a skill I didn't have before. By not jumping to quick reactions, I've built stronger, more meaningful relationships in my personal life and at work. This newfound composure has boosted my confidence in making decisions, leading to better choices overall. I've also healed some of my core wounds, which have helped me connect with people, excel in my job, and make new friends after a big move across the country. The Mind/Body Foundations training helped me know my true self and uncover my heartfelt intentions. These discoveries guide me as I consider making significant changes in my life. Knowing my true self gives me the confidence to take these steps, and my heartfelt intentions act as a compass, pointing me in the right direction. I recommend the Mind/Body Foundations training to anyone seeking personal growth, self-awareness, and a more fulfilling life. I liked Kay right off the bat! She's gives off a very calm and friendly vibe and is wonderful to talk too. I enjoyed our sessions a lot. Talking through my issues was nice and getting her take was helpful. The sessions were very relaxing as well. What I regret was not taking the audios seriously. I should have listened to them every day to get the benefit but I neglected that. I think that was why I didn't really think hypnosis was fully for me. It helped but not as much as I hoped. Forward to April 2020. I got infected with Covid in March and was dealing with many symptoms that would not go away. One of them was horrible acid reflux. I've had acid reflux in the past but this was 20x worse! Diet and medicine weren't helping and Kay texted me to check in with how I was doing (perfect timing!). I figured why not try hypnosis again and see. We had our session via FaceTime. I really liked doing it via FaceTime bc I could do it from the comfort of my couch or bed. No looking for parking or driving to SF. I stopped the medicine but continued to eat GERD friendly and listened to the audio we made 3x a day. My acid reflux went away! I just had to be diligent. I then developed another covid symptom a week or so later which was horrible headaches and nerve pain. I had another session with Kay and my symptoms improved. A couple of weeks later I stated having chest pains and heart palpitations, which is think was because I was too plugged into social media surrounding covid. My anxiety went through the roof. I could not stop being anxious. It was really really bad. My heart was racing so much all day. I had a session yesterday and I'm already feeling less anxious. My heart rate is going back to normal and I'm so grateful to Kay. I was considering taking anxiety meds and but I'm glad I tried Kay first. I think it's a combination of talking it through with Kay and doing the therapy that really helped. She really is amazing at what she does and I recommend her to anyone dealing with either physical or mental issues.
