I had tried therapy in the past but didn't get any benefit from the therapist's passive approach. Dr. Hearn was just what I needed. We talked about my childhood and past but didn't dwell on it... right away she helped me focus on the present and developing the tools I needed to get out of my habit of repeating the same relationship over and over again. She is a licensed psychologist who comes from the cognitive behavioral therapy perspective, and I think this approach really clicked for me. She is wonderfully empathetic and caring, but she also offers great wisdom and guidance in dealing with what's happening in your life TODAY. There are several things I learned from her that I will carry with me always. Valerie helped pull me out of a dark place when I first starting seeing her. She coached me through dating and saw me through a new relationship and break-up with Mr. Wrong Part Deux. She was endlessly encouraging as I went through the online dating process. For the first time in my life, I learned to ask for what I needed in a relationship and took responsibility for my actions. I am absolutely convinced that working with Valerie helped me find the way to my current happiness... I found Mr. Right at last, yes on the internet, and am now married with a beautiful baby boy. Of course, my then-boyfriend-now-husband and I did some sessions with Valerie prior to getting married... couples counseling is another one of her many gifts.

Although I felt skeptical…read moreabout the benefits of therapy, I knew my life needed a change: Brooding on the bad things, second-guessing myself, wallowing in regret and wondering helplessly about "what might have been" had become exhausting! I was desperate to move on, and take control of my anxieties. Within just a few weeks, Valerie helped me recover the self-confidence and optimism that I once thought the world had beaten out of me for good! She's not only helped me be more assertive socially, she's helped me repair my love life. Furthermore, with her help, I've been getting along with my family better than ever before. What I think I like most about Valerie is that - as other reviewers have mentioned - she's not passive. Sure, she's a good listener, she's attentive, and she's compassionate, but she's also very clear and direct and precise in the way she communicates her understanding of the situation. I leave every session feeling refreshed. Thanks, Valerie!

This review is for Dr. Philip Zhi-Jiar Zhuang…read more One of the WORST psychiatrists I've ever had to deal with in my life. This doctor works at the Chinatown North Beach Mental Health Clinic, where I had been going to for years previously and had absolutely zero problems. However, my original psychiatrist left so I was forced to see Dr. Zhuang. My first appointment with this "doctor" had to be rescheduled because he initially thought my appointment was for another day, despite telling me otherwise. On my second appointment, I knew things were going to go downhill as soon as I saw him: he didn't bother introducing himself and barked at me to sit down. First impressions go a long way. During our appointment, he accused me of searching out drugs to abuse, despite the fact that I had been going to this clinic for YEARS and all my medical records were on file. I was NOT a new patient to this place. He demanded that I bring in additional documentation and refused to look at my medical files, saying he didn't care if I was diagnosed by a different doctor. He then proceeded to interrogate me about whether or not I was using heroin and cocaine in an accusatory tone. Towards the end of our "interview", he told me he believes I have a different diagnosis and tried to push different drugs on me. This was after the first twenty minutes of meeting me. Additionally, he asked me about my suicide attempt a few years ago and was extremely cold in his replies. I don't expect you to hold my hand, but HAVE SOME FUCKING CONSIDERATION. YOU'RE DEALING WITH PEOPLE WITH MENTAL ILLNESS. My favorite part of the appointment is when he kicked me out and didn't bother asking me to schedule a follow-up appointment. I have no idea how this man managed to obtain a medical license, considering how disrespectful and unprofessional he is.

I wish I knew how to put my gratitude to Pam into words. I would say that she saved my life, but…read moresome may consider that to be hyperbolic. So I will instead say that the intervention of Dr. Pam and her talents into my life has resulted in not only significant, tangible improvements to my everyday mental health, but also an overall change in direction of my life towards greater growth, development, fulfillment, and satisfaction. Dr. Pam is kind, caring, compassionate, and dedicated. Her skills as a talk therapist are exceeded only by her soul-touching gift at EMDR, or Eye Movement Densensitization and Reprocessing, which is how we came to meet. In 2006, I experienced a significant traumatic event related to my family and was referred to Pam for EMDR treatments for help dealing with the memories and feelings. Through Dr. Pam's expertise in EMDR, I was able to process and fully move beyond the most traumatic memories and resume the journey towards living a healthy life. If that sounds like a miracle, well, from my perspective it kinda is. I have no doubt that without Pam's services, it would not have been possible. Dr. Pam's healing gift is partially responsible for me being able to become the man I am today. And I am proud to be able to say that. Periodically following those treatments, I returned to Pam for help dealing with many of the same stresses that afflict us all: relationship challenges, career decisions, the nagging sense that life could be better if I made braver choices, etc. In all of these issues, Pam proved to be a helpful, patient guide to better answers and deeper understanding. I would say that finding a therapist or counselor with such range - from the exceptional to the typical - is rare, but I haven't seen many therapists. I got lucky and found one who could tackle them all, with grace, perspective, wisdom, and such kindness. If you are considering Dr. Pam as your therapist, I am confident you will find the same.

Rest assured, that is NOT what hypnotherapy is like AT ALL! LOL! Sandra is truly one of the most beautiful, caring people I have ever met! From our first email, text and even first session, I felt like I was talking to a long time friend, where you can be candid, laugh, cry and just be yourself which allows you (and Sandra) to hone in on what you'd like out of your session. My first and second sessions were AMAZING! :) I felt calm, safe and optimistic that with Sandras guidance and wisdom I would reach the barriers in my subconscious that were preventing me from being my best self and Sandra did not disappoint!! I was guided to not only the barriers, but Sandra gave me the confidence to remove them and create a clear path to my best self! I left both sessions feeling light, happy and confident. It's a feeling that is so deeply embedded in me that I feel like I'm walking on air! Sandra couldn't have chosen a better name for her practice because my sessions were truly Transformational!

I did two trauma healing sessions and one past life regression. It's as if my brain has been reprogrammed. My experience: Before the session, we discussed what I'd like to work on. Then when she starts, I gradually fall into a deep hypnogogic state. Her voice gets further away and it's as if my body/subconscious takes over and responds to her suggestions. After our sessions, I noticed that I was starting to process trauma that had been too painful/buried to do so consciously through other therapy methods. I'm starting to adopt healthier behavioral patterns, moving with more fluidity, and am slowly regaining my agency and my voice.I highly recommend Sandra, especially if you're dealing with trauma that feels too deep to reach with regular talk therapy. - Sophi D
