I am a physician who has been referring patients to Dr. Karmali for seven or eight years (maybe…read moremore?) and after years of seeing her work (from the outside) and hearing patients tell me about her, I would say that Dr. Karmali is easily one of the best primary care doctors in town. Her best quality is that she really listens to patients. It's so often that patients come in presenting with one thing, but if you take a few moments to talk with them, you discover that is not the real issue at all. For example a patient coming in with elbow pain, where she finds out it's not just a presentation of elbow pain but really the patient is extremely stressed and clenching their arms at night, causing elbow pain. So the real problem is anxiety not elbow pain. Dr. Karmali actually takes the moments needed to find that out. My patients love her and I appreciate having a skilled physician to refer to when I want to have a MD on board. In a world of seven minute office visits, where you walk in, get a scrip for your "problem," and walk out, it's rare to find a MD who actually practices such caring and quality medicine. I truly can't recommend Dr. Karmali highly enough, Swedish is beyond lucky to have her!

Dr. Karmali is the best doctor I've ever had, and I've had great doctors in the past. I visited her…read moretowards the end of last year as a new patient and she spent about 30 minutes getting to know me before checking everything that I asked her to. She made me feel comfortable and relaxed every step of the way, talking me through everything. Dr. Karmali is extremely kind, attentive, gentle, humble, and calming. She went to UW Med School, so extra points for that! Another cool thing is that Swedish uses MyChart, an online personal health record system where you can see your medical history, appointments, messages from your doctor, etc. Strangely, when I called to make an appointment, the receptionist said that Dr. Karmali did not have any openings until January 2015. However, when I went online to MyChart, I saw multiple openings between now and the end of the year. I ended up making an online appointment with Dr. Karmali for early December and cancelling my phone-made appointment with another doctor at Swedish. I am so excited to go see Dr. Karmali again soon!

KP is easily the worst health care provider I've ever had. It's just a giant roulette wheel. You're…read morepassed from one random person to another. I've been able to see my actual primary care physician in-person exactly once in over 2 years. Zero continuity or coordination of care. You will wait months to see a specialist after you get a referral. and after you do see the specialist, they will cancel your next appointment abruptly and won't have another opening for another 6 months. You try and msg your primary care physician and some random assistant in Olympia, pretends she works with your doctor and intercepts your msg. Calling the main pharmacy contact number on the phone, and you will get unhelpful or completely wrong information. And when any doctor say, oh do you mind if I use this dictation device? they mean they are using an A.I. bot to process your information and verbal responses instead of actually listening to you. SAY "NO" when they ask if they can use the dictation thing that they aren't truthfully disclosing is an A.I. bot... And most recently, just tried to start an E-visit online because I have a ridiculous cough on the tailend of a cold. Trying to get someone so I can get a Rx strength cough suppressant (non-narcotic) over the weekend....and the website won't even let me start the e-visit because "cough" is not recognized as a symptom. Are you effing kidding me? And what kind of healthcare provider CHARGES for parking? nobody wants to be there, but why not make an extra buck? And the max height for vehicles is something like 6'3"..which means anything other than a car or sedan won't fit. What idiot designed that parking garage?

By the time I started seeing Dr. Hatfield in 2014, I was ready to totally give up on finding out what was causing my problems. Dr. Hatfield took as much time as needed to find out what was wrong and then sent me to just the right specialty service within the Polyclinic that could further diagnose my condition, so we could figure out how to treat it and hopefully cure it. It is called Pudendal nerve entrapment. While there is no cure and that makes me very sad sometimes, at least I can seek treatments for the right diagnosis thanks to Dr. Hatfield. I have seen over 20 doctors since that surgery and Dr. Hatfield is the first one who sent me to somebody who could actually figure it out. He had a hunch as to what may be causing the problems and was right on in the end. Dr. Hatfield is a compassionate physician who cares about his patients very much and he works very hard to help them lead as healthy of a life as possible. I would recommend Dr. Hatfield to anyone who thinks that doctors just don't care anymore. The entire staff as well, have always been very caring.

He is professional, but laid back enough to give you the straight talk on what's going on with your body. He makes thoughtful referrals, and will dive in to figure something out if he does not know it. I just honestly really like him, and trust him. If you are lucky enough to get in to see him, you will have found your new doctor, and you won't regret it.

Full disclosure here: I, too, am a doctor, so it's difficult to get me to go to a doctor. My old…read moredoc at the Polyclinic, Hatfield, has moved on from general care and is into a more specialized kind of patient, so I opted on using someone else there, Kelly Thompson. In person, she looks nothing like her profile picture on the Polyclinic site; she walked into the exam room with her colorful tattoos and a sundress, and I was immediately more comfortable. Normally my social anxiety around beautiful people would kick in, but she was super personable, and actually listened to me. A mentor of mine once told me that "if you listen to your patients, actually listen, they will give you the keys to the castle". She actually did, and she stated that I needed to get a diagnostic ultrasound, STAT. When that came back negative for what we were looking for, she even sent me back for another. Eventually we determined the diagnosis, and while there is no immediate solution to my issues, the understanding of what is going on with me has reduced my stress levels. Dr. Thompson is the kind of doctor I wish I knew outside of the doctor - patient relationship... wait, that sounds creepy! What i mean to say is that she's a great balance of "human" and "professional", and I'll choose her each time going forward. She seems genuinely interested in her patients, and as a huge bonus to her, loves dogs, not just her own.

I would give 5 stars but had to take one off, because twice when appointments had to moved or canceled, the call center person got me rescheduled but never canceled the old appointments and as such wasted the time of my therapist. Mental healthcare is not easy to come by right now and that appointment could have really helped someone. The dental services and pharmacy are also wonderful. The dispatch center for after hours is useless also! I called because they sent a prescription to the state of Missouri. I live in RENTON!! People just want you to make things better. Can't you tell by the negative reviews?? You can have your team call us back regarding complaints, but not answer the day-to-day phone calls? Makes no sense.
