As a transplant (for the first time in my life!) to a new city, you can imagine how nervous I was trying to find a new primary care physician after seeing the same doctor my whole life back in my hometown. It was extremely important to me to find a doctor who actually cared about my mental and physical health--a doctor who would listen to me and not make me feel like just another patient. Well, I can honestly say that I've found that in Dr. Andrews and I would tell anyone to go see her. I'm serious. She sits and listens to you. She doesn't rush you or make you feel rushed. When I'm in the exam room with her, I feel like I'm the only thing that matters to her. When is the last time you've felt that way in ANY situation? She's patient with my numerous questions, thoughtful with her responses, and to put it simply, she gives a damn. To give a little background, I suffer from severe anxiety and PTSD. Because of those things I often also struggle with depression. I won't go into how/why because that's a very long and painful story. And while I'm highly-functional despite these issues, often times my anxieties manifest into hypochondria. I connect dots/symptoms to the worst case scenario and it can be very detrimental to my emotional well-being. Whenever I feel the need to go see Dr. Andrews, I never have a problem getting an appointment in a timely manner. She always sees me, hears me out, and helps calm my nerves. She doesn't scoff at me or take my concerns with a grain a salt because she knows I tend to make a mountain out of a molehill. Nope. She makes me feel that my concerns are valid, while also calming my nerves with logical advice. She takes her time with me. That truly means a lot. Beyond all that good stuff, she's just a joy to be around. Other's have mentioned her "bedside manner" and I can co-sign that it's off-the-charts good. She's also honest with you, but kind. So, while I'll always love my old lifelong primary care physician back in Ohio, man and I'm glad I found Dr. Kirsten. (Thanks, Yelp!) She's the perfect alternative and has helped me so much in the short time I've lived in the Seattle area. read more

I had a similar experience as Leta. I had just moved to Seattle and was looking for a new GP. I saw Dr. Andrews who barely listened to what I said and recommended a treatment for my condition that was worse and more evasive than all other alternatives. On top of that, I told her that I had no health insurance and to let me know if she needed to do any tests that could be held off until my health insurance kicked in. She didn't listen to that and I ended up with a $800 bill because she ordered multiple STD tests costing $200 each. I had no symptoms of STDs, nor did I have multiple partners. I get that it's a "precaution" but when I specifically say I have no health insurance, it's a huge piss off to have to pay $400 in lab tests that aren't needed. read more

I have to say that I agree with a few of the other patients here. I was recommended to Dr. Andrews by a friend (I was new to the city), but didn't feel like I had her utmost attention during my visit. To start my review, I should come clean and admit that I had the most *amazing* doctor in NYC for most of my adult life. It'll be tough for me to ever find a doctor as thorough and thoughtful as him. During my annual check up, I was surprised when Dr Andrews didn't ask for any blood work (her response when I asked was "if something was wrong with you, you'd have symptoms"). I thought the entire point of an annual check up was *preventative*. Hmm. I've had a problem with my ears most of my life, I don't have ear wax come out like most people, I just have build up. She noted that my ears needed to be cleaned, but didn't have time to clean them (she had to pick up her child at daycare), so sent me home. Few months later, I had to see urgent care for a near ear infection. I also had billing issues (as did my husband), which was a bit frustrating. I had to call my insurance and the office multiple times to get both of our accounts straightened out. My girlfriend, who also has Dr Andrews (the friend who recommended her to me), is going through a tough time, as she has two small children, a full time job, and her husband just left for Idaho for several months for a training program for his job. She's been really stressed and a little short with her children, so she asked Dr Andrews to try Xanax. Dr Andrews instead referred her to a psychiatrist. My friend, is FAR from any type of substance abuser (she doesn't really drink, she's healthy otherwise). Granted, most people know that xanax and other anti anxiety meds can be band-aids for other issues. She just needed some kind of relief, so she could be more relaxed around her children, during a stressful time. I'd like to find another doctor, wasn't completely convinced she was the best fit for me. read more

Dr. Kirsten Andrews is a very good listener. Because she listened, I have been diagnosed with a genetic disease, a disease that would likely have gone undetected until menopause, and the damage to my liver, kidneys and heart would be irreversible. (I'm 29 years old, and she discovered my genetic disease: Hemochromatosis). I am grateful to have a GP that takes the time to listen to my concerns, and follows through with treatment options. When I am in the room with her, I feel like the only patient she has for the day. She never makes me feel rushed, she has a very good sense of humor and appropriate bedside manner. I love Dr. Andrews. She's been my primary care physician since I moved here last May, and has always been responsive, upfront, and helpful. She has a great sense of humor and bedside manner, and will pull in other doctors within the building to help if needed. Her and the whole staff at Polyclinic are extremely polite, efficient, and caring. Highly recommend-- so glad I found her on the first try looking. read more

Her staff is so stupid. I took an appointment for week later and when I went for appointment, they told me she is not taking any new patients anymore. And they rescheduled me to some other person who is not even doctor but a nurse practitioner. And said we tried to call you in morning but couldn't reach you. That's it. They didn't even tried to reach me again. And so stupid that why did they confirm me earlier if she was not taking any new patients anymore. I am not even sure if she is really not taking new patients or she is just unprofessional. read more

I saw Dr. Andrews quite a while ago, but I think my experience is still relevant. The goal of my appointment was to establish care w/ a new GP. I was asked when I arrived if I would mind talking some to a medical student. I agreed, but did not expect a student to spend almost my whole appointment w/ me, in the absence of Dr. Andrews. In fact, I thought the student was Dr. Andrews, until Dr. Andrews walked in late in the appointment and introduced herself. I think it's odd that Dr. Andrews chose to remove herself from most of the appointment, when the goal of the appointment was to establish care. I do not recall her asking me any questions and talking mostly to the student. I felt very minimized. Another problem I had with Dr. Andrews is that she sitting on the office floor eating lunch when I arrived. I am not a germ "freak," but do object to my doctor exposing herself to the dirt and grime brought in by shoes. Probably needless to say, I did not return to see Dr. Andrews. read more

I have to say that this may be the best doctor ever! She is a great listener and if you are the kind of patient who likes to 'discuss' and take responsibility rather than be prescribed and told what to do, she is amazing. In fact, my whole experience of the downtown Polyclinic as a new patient, from receptionist to assistant to dr Andrews was really welcoming, professional and supportive. read more

I have seen Dr. Andrews 3 times. Everytime I was billed wrong. She belittled issues I was having. She does not admit when she doesn't know how to help you with a symptom and does not refer you to another doctor. I am currently searching for a new general practitioner. read more

Dr. Andrews has been my primary care physician for several years now. She has always been very considerate and thorough during our many visits together. I have struggled with an opiate dependence for 8 years now, and Dr. Andrews has generously stood by my side through thick and thin. I've missed MANY appointments due to my "lavish lifestyle" I had been living, (using drugs). Kirsten has NEVER turned me down nor has she ever treated me any differently than the first day I met her. She is exceptionally patient, understanding, and she's got a great wit about her, (a very dry sense of humor), which I love. She doesn't sugar coat things and she will be very honest with you about necessary steps to take for future prevention of any current standing issues/symptoms. I have had an extensive amount of health issues since I've been with Dr. Andrews and have spent more time in the Swedish Medical Hospital than I care to share. As anyone can imagine, staying in the hospital for weeks at a time is not very pleasant. Kirsten called me several times just to check in and see how I was doing both physically and mentally. Doctor's are not required to make personal phone calls in that manner, so it really meant a lot to hear from her. I am naturally a very observant human being and there were many times when I was not honest with Kirsten about my sobriety, and I could SEE it in her eyes that she knew when I was lying. She didn't chastise me about it or try to force me to admit anything I wasn't comfortable admitting. I intentionally went out of my way to mask my drug use when I was too ashamed to admit another relapse...so the fact that she was able to see that I was struggling just by my mannerisms was pretty impressive. I am naturally a very twitchy and anxious person, so I often have sort of an "uneasyness" to my overall demeanor. Overall, I would recommend Kirsten Andrews to anyone, (as I often do). Like many doctors, she is high in demand when it comes to appointments. I usually get in to see her no later than two weeks out. However, if it's an emergency or a complicated situation, she will make adjustments to see you in between her busy schedule. read more

Dr. Andrews is a stellar physician. She listens carefully and is extremely thorough. She's my primary care physician as well. Whenever I need referrals, her office gets them out same day. They are extremely responsive. I felt the need to post a review because a couple of other said they've had administrative issues with the office. They must have been flukes. I love Dr. Andrews! She is the best doctor, period. I never have to wait long to see her, the staff at the Polyclinic is always friendly and accommodating, and Dr. Andrews herself is always attentive to my needs. On more than one occasion I have gone in with completely random symptoms and she always nails the diagnosis. I saw another doctor at a clinic who put me through hours of tests only to say, 'I see nothing wrong.' Within 5 minutes of seeing Dr. Andrews, she diagnosed the issue and started me on my way back to good health. She is encouraging without being pushy, an excellent listener, honest, and thorough. She has a great personality and sense of humor, and she puts me at ease just being around her. Dr. Andrews goes above and beyond, especially in regards to her communication. She consistently replies to my emails and refills quickly and it's obvious to me that she cares about her patients, which is why I've recommended several people to Dr. Andrews and will continue to do so.
