Many homes in Orange County built in the 1960s were originally equipped with Zinsco electrical panels. These panels use aluminum bus bars instead of copper, making them prone to corrosion and arcing at the breaker connections--which can be a serious fire hazard. On top of that, replacement breakers for these panels cost nearly three times more than standard modern breakers. Rod was recommended to us after he upgraded a friend's panel in Huntington Beach, so we brought him in to replace our old setup with a new 200-amp panel and a generator plug at our home in Costa Mesa. I called Rod's Electric to come out and troubleshoot an issue I was having with a circuit breaker that kept tripping. Every time I tried to reset it it would make a buzzing sound and trip the breaker again. I tried to troubleshoot The issue myself the best I could but just could not figure out why it was tripping. Rod's electric came out and I explained the situation and showed him what was going on. He began to troubleshoot the entire system by eliminating one socket and switch at a time using his fault detector. He was able to locate the source of the problem which turned out to be a wire all the way in the back of my house in the patio covering that was arcing and shorting out the entire house on that breaker. Rod was very methodical in eliminating what it could possibly be until he is finally able to find the source of the short. Rod was very friendly and professional and did a great job. I contacted a lot of electricians and most of them didn't even respond. Rod responded quickly to my e-mail. Communicated clearly when he was available to look at the variety of small jobs (replacing problematic ceiling fan, fixing non functioning door bell and fixing sauna heater). He just looked at the Sauna Heater and it started working (so he didn't need to fix that). :-) Both the ceiling fan and door bells required us to replace the units and Rod was able to quickly diagnose this and was able to return within a few days when we'd purchased another new fan (based upon his recommendation of where to get reliable fans).
