Amazing orthodontist! It was my first time seeing one, but his staff was very friendly and patient with all my questions. I first sat down with him and he said, "first we're going to talk about what you see as the problem, then we'll take a look, and then i'll explain your options and you can ask any questions." Just what i wanted to hear! By the end of my visit, I had reviewed all my options with him including how much each one would cost total. While I was in the room, Mariah at the front desk, had contacted my insurance company to make sure they had an accurate amount of what my insurance would pay! I'm not going to criticize the doctor; I think he and the staff were very professional and did a great job. What I did hate was the braces process. I was convinced to get my teeth straightened out, even at this age and since I can now afford it, I went ahead and did it. Well I didn't realize how much of a hassle and how much more expensive it was going to be. I had to go to the office at least once a month for two years; using some of my PTO. I could not speak properly, everything was getting caught in my braces. My gums started bleeding more when brushing and flossing, which was a big hassle in itself. I replaced my toothbrush often, I even bought a very expensive electric toothbrush to make cleaning easier, but I had to replace the expensive brush heads, every month; instead of the recommended 3. I could not bite on anything hard and/or cold. When the braces finally came off, I thought I was going to be relieved, but it was replaced by a hunking plastic in my mouth for another 6 month straight. At least, I can take these retainers off, but they are also a burden. Well my teeth have straightened out, but was it worth it? No, because there's always a wire when I smile... the point of doing it is so I can finally smile without hindrance. I was told my teeth didn't look that bad in the first place (only when you look up close), so I don't think I would have gone through the process again. So this review is pretty much thinking of getting braces. If you're in your preteen or teen, go for it. When you're my age.... F it!!! read more

I was treated by Dr Rodney Lee just a couple of years ago. I was really happy with the treatment, especially as a previous ortho advised on oral surgery first. Dr Lee made a recommendation but stressed that it was elective and not necessary. He did mention that because I was an adult patient, and the severity of my teeth crowding, I may have gaps in my teeth (and I did, by the base of my teeth). He also said that with braces alone, he might not be able to fix my bite issues, but there was still alot of improvement! I was quite reluctant, as an adult to go to an ortho and have to explain why I didnt get this done before, but I always felt at ease at this office and would recommend this to anyone! Needless to say, it was a great investment! I have had so many people tell me how great my teeth look and what a great smile I have (even people that didnt know me before I got the braces). (and while I had my braces, so many people came up and offered support and inquired about getting braces themselves) I only wish I would've gotten this done sooner! read more

Dr. Lee has treated me for full metal mouth braces TWICE! Why twice you ask? My lovely dog ate my retainers (and no i'm not joking). By the time I was able to see him (two months later because of my hectic work schedule) my teeth had all shifted. So I told him to slap another pair of braces on. The first set of braces took 18 months. I got married in with my brace face too! I actually don't care for vanity when my teeth are being straightened! This second time which my dog is to blame for took 7 months! The staff here are friendly and warm. They are able to work out payment plans if needed. He has two offices. One of the reasons I picked Lee &Young was that it used the 3D scanning system. I had gone to other dental office with traditional mold process that didn't work well to get undercut conditions. Now at this point of 4th trays with my invisalign from L & Y, I am having very positive feelings for the outcome. Knowing that I needed Invisalign to correct a rapidly-developing underbite, I arranged consultations with multiple orthodontists in SF. Dr Lee was the last doc I met with, and immediately I knew my decision. There are 2 office locations available (depending on the day of your appt), which I found very convenient. Martin at the front desk was amazing -- he answered all of my questions and because he himself has gone through the Invisalign treatment, he even offered some insider tips (thank you Martin!). After initial pictures & X-rays were taken, Dr Lee sat down with me and we talked everything through from start to finish. When problems arose during treatment with irritation due to rubber bands, etc., Dr Lee was available and flexible ... 9 months later my bite is perfect and I couldn't be more satisfied. I had a truly remarkable initial visit with Dr. Lee. His assistant went over my history and took photographs so Dr. Lee could review them with me. Then when I met Dr. Lee, I was impressed with how carefully he listened to me in order to understand my treatment goals. He carefully reviewed my photos with me. What was so impressive is that although he described the treatment alternatives, he carefully outlined modest treatment for me, which was what I was interested in. He did not try and encourage me to have more extensive and expensive treatment than I wanted or needed. This is in contrast to the first orthodontist I consulted who did just the opposite. I don't know what other people are raving about; I experience with Dr. Lee was absolutely terrible. He just went in and completely messed up my teeth and smile. When I tried to talk with him about the problems he acted like they didn't exist. I paid thousands of dollars to improve my smile but all I have now is a whole set of new problems; I'm too upset about my teeth to smile anymore. Dr. Lee needs to learn how to listen to his patients, admit his mistakes, and fix them. read more

This guy is the worst orthodontist ever! I took my daughter to him. She has a small underbite. When Dr. Lee explained to me what he planned to correct my daughter's underbite, I told him that the same method had been unsuccessful on my husband (who looks just like our daughter). Arrogant Dr. Lee said that orthodontia had gotten better and his method would work. Several years and lots of money later he admitted that he was not able to correct the underbite. I would have accepted the fact that he tried if he hadn't said (in front of my daughter) that, clearly his efforts didn't work and my daughter would need extensive surgery to ever LOOK NORMAL!!! Our (very attractive) daughter sat in the chair and wasn't able to even cry. She didn't talk for a couple of days. Her mouth and jaw are well within the normal range. But after Dr. Lee's comment she has never been the same. She told me that she had thought she was pretty before seeing Dr. Lee. AVOID THIS TACTLESS OAF!!! read more

Dr. Rodney Lee was recommended to me by a faculty member at UCSF Dental School who said Dr. Lee graduated top in his class and was the best orthodontist in town. Well, I didn't hold any of that against him ;) , and was pleasantly surprised to find he is mellow, thoughtful, gentle, low-key, professional, and has a personality. Office is humming with well-organized activity and many friendly, pleasant dental assistants. Braces are no big deal. Had 'em when a kid and they were terrible. These aren't your father's braces. They are far more comfortable than those. They are also more comfortable than Invisalign *and* can get far better results. (Invisalign, given to me by another doctor, gets 1 star, by the way, and is the reason I searched further to find Dr. Lee). Getting spacers on the week before you get your braces so they can fit the bands on your rear molars does hurt like heck for a week (YOWZA!), the first few adjustments can be a little painful, but they get far more comfortable and are just not a big deal at all. The white braces don't even look that bad. Trivia: Dr. Lee is a professional photographer (press pass to the Beijing Olympics) and has some amazing sports shots in his office! read more

Kind of difficult to be objective here. On the one hand, I really like the doctor who is really knowledgeable, professional and does not push you for extra services. Nice office, friendly attentive staff, great parking (free lot right behind the office), excellent location (you can shop and do tons of other things in Laurel Village). On the other hand, I am very disappointed with the choice of assistants. Once a talkative nurse left a piece of a sharp wire inside my son's mouth, and we were just lucky to notice the problem before the office closed. Really 4.5 stars, but that's not a graphical option here. I came into Dr. Lee's office with a grill that was made for cutting keys... as in houses and safes and such. I wanted to avoid metal in my mouth and Dr. Lee made things right within 18 months with Invisalign. Came to realize that there is no magic potion that'll transform a tooth-set from scary to gorgeous, but this was absolutely the closest thing. Highly recommend. read more

Dr. Lee took care of braces for two children. One was straightforward, the other was complex. I did not like my first experience with Dr. Lee. I don't like the Laurel Village office and I thought the signup process was strange. I called my dentist and asked him and he said my thoughts were justified but that Dr. Lee is a good orthodontist. I called Dr. Lee and asked for another appointment to explain my concerns and he handled it well and restarted the process. This time he (rather than an assistant) explained each step of the process and what the expectations and requirements were. We signed up. We generally use the Sutter office. Dr. Lee always explains things to me clearly when we visit. I'm not sure if it is because I raised questions at the beginning, but kudos to him for following through. We've had situations where a wire was bothering my daughter on the weekend. Dr. Lee has called us back and met us at Laurel Village to fix it even though the office is closed. Dr. Lee worked with Dr. Chan (oral surgeon) and Dr. Yee (dentist) to pull up several of my daughter's weird teeth and align them correctly. We are very pleased with the quality of the work. I think that the best way to work with Dr. Lee is to be very straightforward about what you need and want. Push back when you feel like an answer isn't sufficient or that you are being railroaded. I, too, think he could benefit from a visit to some other offices to see how well they handle the people side of the business, but for my part, he has handled me and my family very well both technically and professionally, so five stars for him. read more

Dr. Lee was referred to me by my regular dentist as I was curious about a retainer adjustment. The office is modern, professional, and comfortable. From my first call to set up the appt., his staff was friendly and informative. I received the intake form via email and was able to fill it out prior to my visit - saving me some time - versus having to do so in the waiting room. Dr. Lee was also courteous and knowledgeable though, it turned out adjusting my retainer wasn't the answer. He was very honest and spent adequate time with me (i.e., patiently answering all of my questions). I could also tell from the exchanges between a few other patients and his staff that this is a very healthy operation. I would definitely recommend him. read more

I am very UNHAPPY with the treatment I have received at Dr. Lee's office and would not recommend him as an orthodontist for adults. He failed to address my concerns in an satisfactory manner. Despite paying $6,000 upfront for my braces, he preferred to handle my serious questions over the phone instead taking the time to speak to me face-to-face. My braces have straightened my teeth, but they have also created a host of new problems including: loss of gum tissue, gaps between my teeth, and a misaligned bite. These problems were quite obvious to me but he chose to completely ignore them during my regular visits. In fact, he did not even discuss them with me until I directly confronted him about my growing concerns. I anticipate having to spend more money on cosmetic dentistry in order to adequately improve my smile. If you are going to spend several months worth of your hard-earned salary on your smile, please choose an ortho that will actually LISTEN to your concerns. read more

Really outstanding! Very professional, organized, friendly staff. I was referred by my dentist for Invisalign, but he first sat me down, looked at my teeth, and then gave me lots of options. He was very honest with all the pros and cons, and the prices as well. Ultimately he told me that "there are probably cheaper options than Invisalign, so why don't you try those instead." In the end he referred me back to the dentists with cheaper treatment options and didn't charge me a penny. You've got to respect someone who isn't going to take your wallet for a ride! read more

Hummm...I am wondering if the people who dished Dr. Lee actually went to him. He did a fantastic job for me. My friends can't believe how good my teeth look. So why did I pick him? First off he was recommended by my Dentist who is one of the best in The City. Second, Dr. Lee graduated not number 2, but number 1 in his class from the nation's number 1 ranked Dental school. And third but not least, he devoted two separate appointments with me discussing the best approach for me. He was clear and explained everything in detail. I really cannot understand how the people who did the prior reviews came to their conclusions...maybe it was another Dr. Lee??? My recommendation is to talk to Dr. Lee first, you will not be disappointed. Oh and by the way, I interviewed two others before selecting Dr. Lee. Added plus, his office in Laurel Village has loads of parking directly adjacent, you can't beat that in San Francisco. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Lee for Invisalign braces for the last 18 months. I am finished the straightening portion now, and just using maintenance retainers. I am so happy with the results and I love that I had the flexibility of taking out the aligners for 4-6 hours each day. Dr. Lee was wonderful to work with, and his office staff are really nice too. He was very patient and accommodating with me when we got to the end of my aligner series and I wanted to do a few more trays to get my teeth a little bit straighter. He only charged me for a new set of retainers, and not for the extra aligners. His office has always been incredibly flexible and helpful if I need to bring my toddler in for appointments with me, and have even entertained him at times. I see him at the Laurel Village location and as someone else mentioned before, there is always plenty of parking. They are also really flexible with setting appointment times that work around my schedule. All in all, a great experience with this office! read more

Fortunately, I have not actually had a lot of work done by Dr. Lee, but I agree with others who have said that Dr. Lee does not actually LISTEN to his patients. I have been to see him three times, because I was referred by my dentist, but my concerns about my teeth didn't seem to interest him. I could not get straight answers to my questions until I pressed him for more information. The only reason I gave 2 stars instead of one is because once I did press for more information he was polite and helpful. He also made me a new retainter that fits and works well. However, if I decide to do any orthodontic work, it will not be with Dr. Lee, because I don't think he will listen to what I have to say. read more

Dr Lee did my braces for me a few years ago. Appointments are easy to make and Dr Lee is very nice. My dog recently chewed my retainers and I had to go back to make new ones. He is still the same and appointments are still easy to make even last min which is great considering I dont want my teeth to shift back anytime soon. read more

Dr. Lee is top drawer! My children have all gone to him and with each one he has been calm, patient and highly professional. He takes the time to explain should you have any questions. Of particular note is that he waited to see if my child's mouth could indeed accommodate all of her teeth using a retainer system instead of pulling out teeth first before straightening her teeth. His patience and method paid off and 6 months later we were ready to start the braces without any teeth being pulled! I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Lee!
