I've been going to a dentist every six months since I was a child. I've never had an issue until I came here. The filling they applied to a chipped tooth fell off just 1 week later. It also felt very rough and unpolished. My previous filling applied by my last dentist in another state lasted for 10 years with no issue. When they applied the filling here, it was so sloppy that my back teeth didn't even touch when I bit down, so I had to return and wait another hour to get it fixed. Dentists should always check that a patient's bite is even and that their back teeth can touch. After a few bad experiences here with the fillings, unusually long appointments (I agree with the other reviewers here who mentioned this), lack of overhead mirrors, and an unpleasant experience with Jackie who raised her voice at me unnecessarily when I questioned the billing, I finally decided to switch dentists. My new dentist fixed my chipped tooth and I haven't had any of the above issues. It's been 2 months and the filling they applied hasn't fallen off. Russel is my go-to dude. I got Invisalign with him and he was a hoot the whole time. A very personable, very friendly and organized dental office all-together. He's a very knowledgable orthodontist and would consider this establishment a teaching office as well as a few different people cleaned my teeth or helped with fitting issues over the year. He's chatty and tries to get to know each of his patients on a personal level, and tries to do his best when it comes to billing within your budget. He's not the nickle-and-dime dentist you usually get. The facility itself could use a revamp, its a pretty dated, but overall clean and practical. Definitely recommend! read more

After being a patient of Dr Young for years my mother came into an appointment for her painful tooth and the lady at the front desk was awful for my elderly mother. Jackie the receptionist said to my mother that'll be 137$ my mother said I have insurance. Jackie then says we'll I don't have insurance for you and if you don't pay I'll just tell Dr Young you walked out!! My Mom said it should be on file? Jackie said no! I need the money upfront. My mother then explains "Is there anyway I can go get the card from my husband and bring it back to you since you say you don't have it on file?" Jackie says no! We will just bill you. My mother almost had a breakdown in the car as I was picking her up! I called the office personally and spoke to Jackie and she was rude and unprofessional to me, cutting me off as I was talking. I told Jackie I also work in the medical field and we have been patients of Dr young for years. And I would never speak to a patient how you spoke to my mother. Jackie then hung up on me!! Wow this is very disheartening especially for business. A lot of patients will leave and take their business elsewhere because of people like this! We will not be back! read more

I made a same day appointment and knew i needed a lot of work done. I had to get a crown and a few more things done. He let me know everything i needed done. I went in with yellow stained teeth and left with the whitest teeth cleaning, ever. I did not think that it was possible for my teeth to be whiter since I constantly drink tea and coffee. I did not pay extra for making them whiter, because the regular cleaning scrubbed and brought out my natural teeth color. I also learned that I might have less stained teeth if I quickly drink my morning coffee and switch to drinking water throughout the day. I recommend Star Dental because Dr. Young is the only dentist to discuss how to improve my daily habits. He points out which habits can be improved. He is the first dentist to recommend the dental pick and now I have much less cavities and tartar. I have also discussed which areas I can focus on regarding cleaning. My teeth are looking more photogenic and prior to meeting Dr. Young I did not think that this possible for me. But it is possible if you get the dentist that is willing to learn about your individual habits. And by improving one item per visit I have improved the look and health of my teeth and mouth. I saw Dr. Young for about a year and a half. Over the span of my time seeing him, he advised me to get extensive dental work, despite having minimal dental issues before seeing him. I was advised to get upwards of 10 fillings and a root canal (which perhaps was the only thing I felt I should have gotten). I have since started seeing a new dentist, who has not advised me to get any additional dental work since. I think Dr. Young suggested that I get significant dental work that I did not need, and felt pretty bummed by the prospect of spending thousands of dollars out of pocket (on top of what my insurance paid for) when I had few dental problems before. I have been going to Dr. Young for maybe 7 years now. Whenever I see Dr. Young, he always takes the time to address any questions or concerns I might have. I like to think I'm pretty good at maintaining my dental health, so I don't usually have any special needs when I go in. The cleaning itself is pretty standard--no complaints there. Doc also occasionally keeps me updated with interesting dental tidbits (I would not call them lectures as other reviewers have), like ingredients in toothpaste that I should avoid based on recent research, which I appreciate. Other notes--staff is friendly, the building is clean and centrally located close to public transit and street parking (if you know where to look). If you value your time, don't come here. I sat through a 1.5 hour lecture before getting 5 mins of cleaning. We then ran out of time, so I had to come back another time for an hour long cleaning (it wasn't even with Dr. Young the second time) During the 1.5 hour lecture, Dr. Young explained how a bite guard might help with my teeth. I politely nodded to state that I understood his slides but I never agreed to getting one yet. He did the impressions anyway after I said I need time to think about it (he said for his records?) and then I ended up with a $210 bill (they charged my insurance $$$$). I had a pretty bad experience here. First, when I made the appointment, I asked how much a cleaning, exam, and xrays would cost, and was told about $240. But when I went to the appointment and was in the chair, they told me it was going to be $400. But the bigger problem was that I was told I needed to get 5 fillings and this was going to come to almost $2000. When I asked if I could put it off for awhile until Covid was less of an issue, I was told I should get it all done as soon as possible. I've heard of dentists ripping patients off before but never experienced it until here!! Beware of this place! I went in to get a tooth with a dark spot checked out and the woman I saw told me my entire tooth was cracked and I would need to have a $600+ procedure to remove half my tooth and put an enamel cap on it. I went to another dentist for a second opinion and it turned out the tooth merely had a cavity. They told me they accepted my insurance and told me my cleaning would all be covered. Ended up with $280 bill. Would never return to this place and am seriously in awe that a trained medical professional would try to pull those strings on a trusting patient. read more

Dr. Russell Young does my invisalign and he has been helpful throughout my approx. 3 year process. In the beginning I had to get a frenectomy which made me nervous but he made sure during that time that I would be comfortable and relaxed so I wouldn't feel any of the lasering. The frenectomy went by fast and it was such a smooth process that I didn't feel anything that was going on. Also he was very patience with my invisalign case as I had to redo it twice as it didn't fit but he made sure to stay connected with me to update me with everything going on. This experience was not like any I've had before and want to caution those who are just going to get their teeth cleaned that they'll have to listen to Dr. Youngs lengthy lecture first. Basically he tried to sell me services before I received my cleaning and put a down payment on the services he recommended for what the insurance didn't cover. After having to endure countless pictures of rotten teeth and a graphic explanation of why my " teeth are going to fall out" he spent roughly 5 minutes on the actual cleaning and didn't polish or floss my teeth at all! He didn't have an assistant (just a person who could help him with the insurance part) and stated if I called back with a time I could come back I would need to put down the down payment " to reserve the time" who does that?!
