This is a true hidden gem in Obidos, Portugal. The restaurant is on the second floor...the kitchen…read moreis on the first floor, not much of a sign outside. Inside there's just an arrow sign that says 'Restaurante', pointing up the stairs. The food is terrific, and the service is wonderful. It's real Portuguese food, cooked by native Portuguese with a great view and great service. We ate here 4 times over 3 days and had wonderful conversations with great food. During that time however, we noticed many rude tourists. We made every effort to learn Portuguese before we traveled to Portugal, and I would say that we failed...But the fact that we tried and were respectful and used our manners meant we had great conversations; that's why we travel... to meet people, learn about their culture and immerse in it for a short period of time. Alcaide is open for lunch, but they open for dinner at 7 and they reserved a regular table for us at 7:15. This was wonderful because it was after all the tour buses and the rude tourists had gone for the day. The food as we were told ...is not foo foo food; you won't leave hungry, but you will leave wishing you had more. That's how you know it was a great meal :) The cherry tomato and cheese salad, the octopus, the beef medallion's, the lambchops, the sea bass, the monk fish, lamb tenderloin... all cooked to perfection and so incredibly tasty. My favorite was the goat cheese with olive oil and honey, and the beef medallions with cream port wine sauce. Don't forget the bread to mop up everything :) Writing a review for a great restaurant is always a joy and this is at the top. Alcaide is run by incredibly nice people who care, and it shows. I hope others experience the charm and joy here that we did. We miss it.

They made a reservation for me that night at 19:00, I went to the wrong place, called the hotel and asked where I went wrong, they helped me and called the restaurant and saved a spot for me at 19:30. Good thing I was still close by. The place filled up at 19:30, but opens at 19:00 in case you want to try and get a walk in spot. Got in, parking was easy and was greeted by the staff right away. Table for one, up in the bar area, nice place, nice ambience. Drink ordered; large Sagres and still water. Now, on to the menu. I cheated a little during my talks with the staff to find out their favorites. I chopped it up with the wait staff here as well and got some of their favorites. A couple of cross overs so I picked those; garlic butter shrimp and a mixed green salad to start. It's Europe so no need to rush the entire order up front. It's a marathon, not a sprint here. Shrimp were delicious. Super fresh and tender, good amounts of garlic and bathing in butter. Box checked. Salad was fresh mixed greens with cilantro, carrots and onions in a very tasty light vinaigrette. Some can be overpowering, but this was nice and light. The accoutrements with the drinks included fresh baked bread assortment of sourdough, cracked wheat and more butter (is there ever enough?), olive assortment of black, green and brownish green in olive oil marinade and a fun bar mixed nuts of peanuts, corn nuts and I want to say Beer Nuts, but I could be wrong on the third one. Good with my beer. Next up, I was debating on the main course. I saw razor clams, which I've had in Spain before and loved, but it was in a risotto. I thought I would ask if I could get an order of just the razor clams, but didn't want to be a pain for the staff. The happily accommodated the request. Razor clams came out in white wine, butter and garlic with saffron. Nice touch! The combo was excellent. Afterwards, my now new friend who just happened to be serving me food too, told me the razor clams are also local from the area to our southwest. Double score! The razors are sweet and tender if you've never had them, unlike clams you normally get that taste, well, clammy. Dessert was a good 12 year old whisky with a rock and we had fun trying to find the right one for the night cap. We decided the Glenroth was the right one for the job. I came back the next night to try what I went there for originally which was the Iberian filet mignon. I started this night out with the crab bisque with puff pastry top (OMG), another salad and then the main. Night cap same as previous night, but did take back chocolate mousse to the hotel. That was also very good, but I really enjoyed the prior night. Don't get me wrong, both nights the food was amazing, but those razor clams... man. Did I mention all this was around €50 all in. The drinks alone at the hotel would've cost me that (I know because I did the research - tough job I know lol). Also, they're closed on Mondays (a lot of places are here), just so you know and the graciously told me the second night there. When I'm back in country, I'll stop by and visit my friends at Tribeca. You should too!

Came here for a late lunch since it had good ratings and was open till 4pm. Easy to find - follow…read morethe signs. Even at 2.30pm the restaurant was very busy with locals and tourists. The waiters spoke excellent English and immediately put a set of 'taster' hors d'euvres and menu in front of me. The menu had a wide selection of options - in portugese. After some 15 minutes I waved a waiter down to take my order which was Octopus Al Sardinha but I asked for no mashed potato, just more vegetables instead and a bottle of rose wine. I nibbled on a few olives and within 10 minutes I received my dish - surprising as the reviews said the service was slow! It was a whole octopus grilled on a small bed of vegetables and mio - they hadn't added any more veg., just removed the mashed potato! It tasted very good and was not too chewy, so quite fresh. The wine also was very good. The bill for one main course and a bottle of wine was around €46, which also included nearly €2 for 6 olives, so is quite expensive, since they charge for bread and any 'additions'. Overall a pleasant and very good experience, but not cheap.

I like it a lot! We went to have the Sardinhas and it was delicious and well cooked (with only salt…read moreon the grill but it is just the way I love). Simple but good. The starter bread was good too, hot and crunchy. The sallon is really noisy and crowded, and the dishes took like half an hour to arrive. This was a bad side. But service was nice and I liked the overall experience.
