This restaurant is on an unassuming street in a neighborhood that totally lacks any charm. It's hard to find any signage for the restaurant, but you won't miss it for the glass enclosed extension that juts out onto the sidewalk. Even with that extension, it's still a rather small restaurant, run by a very friendly couple (who enjoys going to New York every year) and a few staff/family members for limited hours, so reservation is highly recommended.
It's a slight detour, but if you are heading from Lisbon to Porto, this is a great place to stop for a meal.
They have a small menu, mostly what the fishermen managed to catch that day. When we asked about the fishes, they brought us to the case to show us the six or so fishes they have for the day.
We started with a seafood soup, which I'd say is the best seafood soup I've ever tried. The soup is so rich, the flavor is so concentrated, it's like they have a bottle of "ocean essence" and added a few drops into the soup.
We ordered the mixed seafood "Mariscada a Mirandum" for one, for €45. I don't know who can finished it on his own, maybe the Man vs Food guy, but certainly not us. There are barnacles, clams in garlic sauce, shrimps, a small and a large crab, and oyster. Everything so fresh and delicious. It's a great way to try a little of everything, but I think in the future we may just order off the menu the items we like - not that anything is bad, it's just we have our own preferences.
We were pretty stuffed, but somehow still managed to finish the sole as well. The sole has firm but delicate meat, and my husband said it's the best he's had in years. read more
