One of our go to places in Óbidos. The owner Pedro has always been a great host and so is the waitress who was the same person who serviced us. We had grilled vegetable player for my mother in law who is a vegetarian. We had Portuguese pork, steak and grilled fish. Overall all the dishes are more fusion with lots of fruits that we love. We have spent 10 days in Portugal and this was one be of our best meals of our entire trip. Everything about our lunch at this great find was amazing. The restaurant is beautiful, the service was attentive and friendly without being overwhelming. Recommendations were perfect. Tuna was delightful, scallop and shrimp risotto was done to perfection and the Portuguese Steak "mamas recipe" was memorable. Don't skip desert.... Would go back just for Serradura!!! Probably the best tuna I've ever eaten. Hands down. I'm not a foodie so I didn't take pictures of my plate nor will I bother to describe it as my words can not do it justice. She had the cod from the clay pot and was tremendous as well. They have four cod dishes, warranting it's own section of the menu, separate from 'our fishes' where my choice came. The couvert we had was the gravlax, which was pricy at 9 € but totally worth it. The vinho verde which was recommended and the name of which sadly eludes me was a terrific pairing. Perhaps the most striking thing about this restaurant is it's wonderfully cozy medieval decor. Candles, votives, pink stone walls and candelabras in this cavernous chamber create almost a fairy tale enchantment perfect for Obidos. *an admission is that I did not know how to properly spell 'gravlax' until the writing and proofing of this review. read more

Casa de Ramiro was a delicious treat for the stomach and the senses. We arrived in Óbidos ready to take in the medieval sights and have a memorable lunch on our last day in Portugal. Just outside the town walls, it was a very short walk from anywhere in the town center and filled with the same character the town is known for. The owner greeted us and treated us as if we were old friends. From recommendations on the regional specialties (such as the Iberian black pig) to the perfect wine pairing, we were thankful. Each detail of every well composed dish was thoughtfully considered. We started with house-cured gravlax, Azorean São Jorge cheese, and a couvert of olives and saffron-infused bean purée. The three of us ordered the incredibly flavorful pork medallions which were served with perfectly crisp potato rounds, well-dressed greens, and seasonal fresh fruit with a berry-wine reduction. The entire dish was well balanced and not a trace was left on any of our plates. Dessert is also not to be missed. The knock out for me was the dark chocolate ganache infused with ginger, saffron and coconut milk, served warm alongside fresh fruit (today, mango, pineapple, strawberry and kiwi). We also ordered a Portuguese-style tiramisu (custard in lieu of mascarpone) and airy dish of citrus-infused creamy pudding. After two weeks of many fine meals in the Azores and Lisbon, this one inched into first place. We were staying just down the street and saw the great reviews so decided to have dinner at the restaurant. Before I talk about food the staff needs to be mentioned. Our host Pedro and wait staff Christian / Luisa could not have been nicer and engaging. This is our first visit to Portugal and this was by far our best experience in terms of conversation with local people. The food was also excellent and the portions generous. We finished off with a carrot cake custard and Port. A perfect finish to the meal. If we are lucky enough to again visit Obidos this restaurant will definitely be on our itinerary. We really enjoyed our dinner at Nova Casa de Ramiro... we were advised by the waitress that the cod was dried/salted (as many people had complained about it); this is a local dish and certainly not the only fish option on the menu ;-) We had decent wine, great food and excellent service... the restaurant is a little higher end than your average Portuguese restaurant, hence the prices being a little higher. Overall, we would definitely recommend... and if you are looking for somewhere a bit different (check out the photos!) then you will have found it :-) read more

This is a charming and delicious dining experience. The staff was very helpful with our selections and we had a wonderful evening. I spoke much more specific on my original review but apparently a technology issue prevented it from being posted. I remember a traditional pork dish and a wild boar dish. Both were excellent. My wife and I split the ribeye (menu recommended for 2 people) which was cooked perfectly. So delicious. The service and atmosphere are part of what makes this place the best in Obidos. Also the food is the best I have had so far in portugal. The deserts were incredible. I can't say enough good things. If you don't go here, you're truly missing out. One more thing! If Ive learned anything, its that in Portugal you need to make reservations for dinner. But, I continue to fly by the seat of pants and hope for the best and got lucky with Nova. Of course we were asked if we had a reservation, and of course said no. The manager asked us to wait a few moments then he seated us upstairs which was perfect. The restaurant was bustling, filled with candles, ambiance, and conversation. Upstairs provided a quieter and cooler experience. Once seated, a wonderful young man approached our table with an open bottle of sparkling wine, told us it was the special for the night at 6 euro a flute. How could we refuse? He soon returned with several cheese boards and a bread basket to offer as starters for only 2 to 4 euro. Tempting but we passed and opted for the sizzling garlic shrimp starter. We had smelled it earlier while waiting for our table. And we could not have made a better choice. It was the best bite we've had in Portugal. It is a must have if you like shrimp or garlic. We followed it with the steak loin cooked like his mother used to (actual name of dish), and my husband had the white fish crusted in almonds. Both were very good, but we wish we had only ordered more sizzling shrimp. And as expected, the waiter returned with a dessert tray. We went with the chocolate cake that was served with homemade vanilla ice cream with ginjinhas and ginjinha syrup. The cake was moist and perfectly paired with the ginjinha. The waiter told me not to tell, but he was also generous on the wine pours. The wait staff has perfected customer service and the upsell, it was a charming experience in a charming town. I wouldn't trust luck, make a reservation if you want to have this unique dining experience in Obidos. read more

Ok. So I am here in Obidos for 10 days because my daughter is playing with the SIPO International Obidos Piano Festival, so we have had some days to try various restaurants. First, this is outside the wall so it is not the usual tourist fare. We started with the common cheese and olives but ordered the unique Padrin Peppers which, loving peppers, were very satisfying, although personally I might like them a bit hotter. Linda had the Salmon with honey and flower salt, which quickly disappeared, and I had the pork loin roasted in the oven with home-made Orange sauce; very nice. Pedro was delightful (his wife Carla was in charge of the kitchen and providing the wonderful food), and I am confident you will value your experience here. I recommend you take the time to find De Ramiro south of the wall. read more

Our best meal in Portugal so far! The dining room is stunning, the service friendly and attentive, the recommendations were great, the food and wine and presentation outstanding! We had the St George cheese starter, the garlic prawns brought sizzling to the table, and the black Iberian Pork for two which we felt was the highlight. A platter was brought to the table with succulent slices of pork tenderloin accompanied by thin crisp slices of potato on one side and a perfectly dressed salad of mixed greens and slices of kiwi, oranges and strawberries. A sauce of reduced port with toasted almonds was the perfect accompaniment and we are every bite while drinking glasses of the house red and vinho verde. We finished with a beautiful tiramisu.
