Rode's catered our event on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. They arrived on time and set up everything. What a great selection of appetizers, entrees and desserts. We even added a whole pig which provided some added fun to the menu. I had so many compliments on the food, from the salads, stuffed shells, brisket, pork, etc. Everything was great. The two gentlemen that stayed to carve the pig and make sure everything was going well were great. This was the first time we used Rode's for catering. I highly recommend and would use again. Only minor quibble is that communications with the office staff in advance of the event should be significantly improved. read more

Had my wedding was there. Food was amazing. Bathrooms both flooded and it was before the reception. All food had left overs but the short ribs. I guess they keep the good stuff. My biggest issue was being charged $700 cash for a coordinating fee. For what? Telling when to walk out?? Family and bridal Party set up the night before and broke down the night of the wedding. Also asked to door to be open during ceremony and it was half opened. Looking like crap in pictures. Also was told there would be plants/flowers in the patio area. Not what's I expected just maybe 4 mums around. Cookies that I had ordered were to be placed on trays for guest. But instead whole big bags were set out of the table. So most people didn't get them including the bridal party. We even donated the 20 wooden slices that I have bought for my wedding. I figured I didn't have use for them. Food was outstanding and staff was great and friendly. Just hate being charged that $700 for something I never agreed to. read more

This past week my company had a meal catered by Rodes for school educators. The food was decent and was late getting there but what was most disappointing was the automatic 20% service charge that was added to the bill. It came up to a $600 service charge for an hour lunch. We had used this caterer before and this charge was never added. We work with a lot of caterers and have not seen this so just be aware. Their email communication is inconsistent too. read more

My fiancé told me someone mentioned Rodes Barn for a location to have our possible reception there. There communication is zilch, after emailing at least 3 times and calling no one contacted me with any type of information. Whoever is in charge of their website and checking emails need to do a better job. read more

Rode's was great! I wanted to have a pig roast and researched a few different places, both pick-up and on-site roasting. The on-site roasters were between $17 and $25 per person, minimum 50 people. The party I was planning was for around 30 people, so this was both too big a pig and too much money for me. Rode's, on the other hand, allowed for any size pig, a set $175 roasting fee plus the cost of the pig (~$3.40 per pound at the time I bought it), and were responsive through email and on the phone. They gave me the recommendation for the size of the pig, too. I ordered the pig a week in advance, set a pickup time for the day of the event, and picked it up at their shop down in Swedesboro. It was a delicious pig, very well received by all the guests, and we had some leftovers for ourselves. If I do this type of event again, I'd definitely do it with Rode's. read more

This is a DRASTICALLY different review than the one that I started writing a few weeks ago. Yes, "weeks ago," as I was so upset with Rodes that I started basically live blogging my experience. Full disclosure, it wasn't good. Communication with Rodes was beyond terrible. A literal week would go by, from the time I sent to an email, to when I had to call them to talk, because they still hadn't responded. It was constant. I would email.....then wait.......then wait......then call....then leave a message.....then wait......then wait.....then call again, and finally get someone. NUMEROUS times. I hadn't met the person that was supposed to be running the show. My concerns weren't being addressed. I was being told two different things by two different people. I was 99.9% over dealing with Rodes period. But then came the day of the event. I finally met Alyssa, who was an absolute pleasure to interact with. Everything went off without a hitch, everything was as it should've been, and everyone had a great time. Given how the lead up to the event went, I was actually GOBSMACKED that nothing went wrong with the event itself. The blame for this thinking lies with Rodes itself. See, their contract is....let's call it "aggressive." There are pointed deadlines and stipulations, and it states in NO UNCERTAIN TERMS, that should things go belly up, its on YOU. There are NO refunds. There are NO exceptions. There is NO liability from Rodes. Either you have YOUR shit together, or you lose your massive chunk of change. Meanwhile, Alyssa and Kaila are actually VERY laid back (some would say, too much so...) and they didn't even stick to their own deadlines and contract parameters. I had to chase THEM down to make a payment, when the contract states that if payment is not made a certain day, you forfeit your day and deposit, etc, etc. I left email after email, voicemail after voicemail; even asked to meet IN PERSON to make the payment, and I was brushed off every time. I even questioned WHY Rodes would take on so much work if they didn't have the manpower to pull it off. But, like Michael Jordan in the 4th quarter, Rodes rose to the occasion. They were there on time, the menu was correct (and the food received rave reviews from my guests), the servers were pleasant and professional, and everything went off without a hitch. I went to Rodes that day, FULLY EXPECTING a fight because of some type of miscommunication, and I got nothing. Rodes only gets 3 stars because it WAS so bad in the beginning. Seriously, if you had seen the draft before this, you would've thought Rodes killed my dog or something. I was LIVID at the lack of communication. And honestly, for a business that is based on customer service, it really is unacceptable. I'm not saying you need to write me back immediately, or even the next day, but if I email you about RENTING SOMETHING FROM YOU, I shouldn't have to email again a week later, then call, then CALL AGAIN A FEW DAYS LATER because you haven't gotten back to me. I would even have been ok with a "we received your email and will get back to you shortly" email, but even that didn't happen. Again, Alyssa and Kaila are SUPER nice, and were nothing but pleasant and helpful WHEN YOU FINALLY GOT THROUGH TO THEM, but they were like magic leprechauns in terms of how hard they were to catch. ANYWHO, the barn is VERY spacious and has that rustic, outdoorsy vibe. It has heat, which was turned on, and provided a perfect temp for our mid October event. As I mentioned, the catering (provided by Rodes as part of the contract) got rave reviews. I thought it was good, not great, but my guests really enjoyed it, and several remarked about how good the food was. Again, our servers were great (Roy and Cameron, I believe), and after checking in to make sure everything was ok, Alyssa got out of our hair to run the show as we saw fit. One issue that DID occur, was that during our event, a couple, with their child, walked into the barn, in the middle of our event. They said that they were thinking about renting the place themselves and wanted to look around. They were quickly asked (by us) to come back another time, as we were obviously using the place, but it did point out that there should be SOME kind of marking off, or "event security" or something to prevent that from happening. I don't see why I would ever use Rodes barn again, although several of my guests made notes to find out about having weddings there, but we did have a good time, despite the early hiccups. I would recommend the venue, and even the company, as long as you know that going in, communication is going to be a BIG issue. Our event (baby shower) for 60 people, BYOB, was a little over $2,000. Adjust your numbers accordingly. read more

The first time that I tasted food from this place was at a kids parry about 10 years ago where they had been hired to cater. There's a lot of crappy BBQ places out there stealing money, but this business isn't one of them. Their smoked chicken is off the friggin hook, even without the sauce if you choose to have it on the side. Everything that they make is pretty good. I stopped in their small lunch cafe that's open during the week recently for lunch and had a pretty solid meal. The special for the day was buy one side, get another for free.... Win/win. My wedding was PERFECT AND AMAZING, and that was a direct result from the care, concern and attention to every little detail put forth by Alyssa, Kaila and all of the Rodes' staff. First, let me address the communication. It wasn't perfect in the beginning, because Alyssa was literally in the process of having a baby. Since I am NO Bridezilla (or self-absorbed moron with delusions of grandeur) I understood this. And in short order, the communication was flowing; things got done, and done right...and the result was a perfect wedding. The food was OUT OF THIS WORLD. Now, let me also say many of my guests work in NYC and eat in the finest restaurants. They know good food. This was GOOD FOOD. Every little detail was taken care of and I cannot thank this crew enough for their time and attention to detail. Rodes was also an amazing value. For what we paid, and what we received? NO better value anywhere. Period. I would STRONGLY suggest Rodes Barn for weddings. The place was so beautiful. And we will absolutely go back for dinner. read more

I just cannot say enough good things about Alyssa and her staff. They catered our wedding for 200 people a few weeks ago in Brigantine NJ and the food and service were phenomenal! In the past weeks so many friends and family have told us how great the food was and how much they enjoyed it! I filled up early on all of the delicious appetizers but still got to taste the amazing short ribs, mac and cheese, & roast pork. If we ever throw another large party we will definitely be calling Rode's Catering, their food was great, service was outstanding, and their prices are very reasonable for the quality of service. read more

We had Rode's cater our wedding at the family owned Rode's barn- and the food was simply AMAZING. All night long we kept hearing from our guests how great the food was, especially the pulled pork which seemed to be the biggest hit of the night. Alyssa Rode was not only instrumental in assisting in the planning of the menu for our wedding, but she also helped us plan our entire wedding period. To say she is a multitasker is a huge understatement! Alyssa ran the catering perfectly. She ran the whole wedding perfectly! Her and her staff were nothing short of amazing! They were polite, helpful, willing and eager to answer any and all questions and they were fun too! It was really nice having them there. Alyssa was so wonderful and easy to talk to throughout the whole process. The food was absolutely perfect in every way you could possibly imagine. The pulled pork and the BBQ chicken were to die for! The sides we chose were candied carrots, green beans almandine, and red skin potatoes, all of which were incredible. If you need an event catered I highly recommend using Rode's Catering. RODES BARN VENUE-Awful overall experience. 3 months of zero contact on their end (this was the last 3 months leading up til the wedding). One month before the wedding I finally heard back and received no apology only excuse after excuse. I was told that she had sooooo many weddings and catering events that she is just so busy. I should have been made to feel like I was the only wedding and the only bride. I was told that if i really needed to contact her i should have googled her phone number (mind you she had told me she's never really in the office and emailnwas best!) When confirming everything in February I was told the benches around the ceremony space would be done and would match the stump and board seating in place only to find that due to a lack of time on her part she ordered benches that look nothing like the original seating. Was also told there would be plenty of seating once done but instead most of my guests had to stand. I was told my rehearsal day and time was good (after begging for her to let me know it was so my party could take off of work) then one week before the rehearsal I was told the Friday bride would have to let me know if that time worked since she gets to set up the day before. There was an issue with chairs the day of (the rental company came to get them and told my coordinator they were not paid for). I paid Rodes directly for the chairs and I could not reach anyone. There were 2 helpful people and that was the new assistant (Kaila) who tried really hard to fix the damage done and Shelly the bar tender who was amazing and super sweet and accommodating! read more

After cancelling from another caterer, I contacted Alyssa about a month prior to my daughter's wedding. It was a backyard wedding of 110 guests. She was so patient, cooperative and receptive in helping plan the menu. I made several changes during the process; she responded in a timely manner to ease the stress of planning the menu and guest count. the food was absolutely delicious! The buffet included salmon, roasted chicken, and sausage in a marinara sauce, as well as sides. The staff was efficient and friendly during the wedding. We received so many compliments during and after the event from guests. Service and food were awesome. So glad Rodes catered the wedding! Everything went so smooth the day of the wedding. read more

I ordered from Rode's Catering for a party. I ordered pulled pork, barbecue ribs and beef brisket. None of it was good. The ribs were very tough and fatty. Poor customer service! I wouldn't even say the food was okay. Just blah. Not to mention they also never returned a deposit on a cancelled event. Due to unfortunate life events such as cancer not even that warrants a refund with these people apparently! They have yet to rectify the situation and are not even answering emails or phone calls. Disgraceful way to handle a terrible situation! Have a heart we are human and sometimes really crappy things happen that warrant you to void out a black and white contract! Rather than make an already terrible circumstance even more frustrating and heartbreaking for a young cancer patient how about you do them and yourselves a favor and make this right. We booked Rode's for our Employee Appreciation luncheon for our staff in office. From the start, I knew we made a good decision. I was the go between with Rode's (Alyssa) and the higher ups in our corporate office. Alyssa not only worked with me with building our menu but was patient while we waited for corporate to approve everything. It made my job of booking everything that much easier. At the last minute (seriously, the day before) we had some employees share that they are vegetarian and GF, I shot Alyssa and e-mail and she was more than accommodating with me to supply us with 2 meals for them so they could enjoy our luncheon as well. Day of was perfect. Their driver got a little lost but was professional by calling us and giving us the heads up. They supplied us with everything. The food was delicious and there was SO MUCH. Our employees were able to take home leftovers to enjoy later. I would recommend using them for anything and will definitely keep them in mind for our holidays parties and even for personal parties of my own.
