Everyone at RefactorU was great - the instructors, administrators, community engagement planners -…read morethey are all wonderful. RefactorU throws a lot of information at you in a short time, but in a really well-structured way so that you actually have time to learn it all, and learn it all well. I'm astounded by how much I learned, and how dedicated the instructors were to supporting our experience: from TAs who come in on the weekends to offer help, to being responsive when not-totally-kosher sexist jokes were being made in class (hey, it's the tech industry, right?). They organize events with employers and recruiters to help you make connections. They know they only succeed when their students succeed, and they are all about that. My only complaint is that, being as successful as they are, they have been growing a lot, and for my personal learning style, our class was too big. We had 33 people, so there were quite a few of us sharing the instructors' attention. It was also often a very loud work environment (33 people in one room), which for me usually meant having to choose between leaving and going somewhere quiet to get work done, or being in a room where I have access to help from instructors and classmates. Overall, I'm glad I went and really impressed by what they accomplish as a school. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others.

I am disappointed in Colorado Heliops. My son started their…read moreflight school 1.5 years ago. The Rocky Mountain Regional Airport is very busy and my son was having a hard time feeling confident to speak to the air traffic controllers. I asked if a flight instructor could arrange for my son to go with him into the airport's control tower to see how hectic their job was in comparison to my son talking into the headset. They said they had no arrangement for that. Unfortunately, my son took a break from his training. I pulled my $1900 out of his account when they told me it would not secure his place he went from 6th on their list to a 150th.

I spent over $40,000 and 2 years of my life at this school. The instructors told me to leave after…read moreI got frustrated about not making progress here. They told me that I do not have the skillset to become a pilot and that I should not fly. However, instead of falling on my face, I immediately finished my private helicopter rating in the third busiest class D airspace in the USA. I was finishing college in Denver, and did not want to switch schools and move cities. So, as HeliOps is the only rotorcraft flight school within 6 hours of Denver, I had to fly or drive 6+ hours to and from flight schools to finish my helicopter ratings. I have now finished all my ratings needed to be hired in the industry and have received a total of 4 job offers even before completion of my commercial rating. The instructors at HeliOps are manipulative and do not seek to create qualified, competent pilots for the industry. They say that you are the only one not making progress here (even though almost all students who have stayed at HeliOps to complete their ratings have up to 100 extra hours over minimums, or left and excelled at other schools). Another phrase they like is that students at this school end up with higher hours because they hold them to a higher standard than other schools do. However, students end up with higher hours because there is enough time left between when a student learns a skill (for example, an autorotation) and the next time they fly, so that their skills perish and they have to learn the skill again. Once that skill has been re-learned, it has now been 3+ weeks since the other maneuvers have been practiced and they have to learn those skills again. There are so many skills to be learned in order to pass a checkride that training can take almost an unlimited amount of time if a school is not focused on getting students past a checkride. I have used the same examiner for my instrument rating that HeliOps uses for all their students. They lie about the difficulty of the checkride, what items will be on it, and what the examiner will be looking for in order to justify the fact that they make many students repeat lessons tirelessly. The instructors of HeliOps have told me and many other students to see an aviation therapist/psychologist. If you go here, remember this review when they tell you to see one. To add insult to injury, a previous male Schweizer 300 instructor has been SEXUALLY HARASSING ME through Facebook Messenger. This HeliOps instructor has asked me to allow him to do sexual things to my friends and I, and when I did not comply with his request, he told me to go F*** myself. I write this review with the hope that at least one person will be kept from the pain and financial drain that I have been a victim of through attending flight training at HeliOps. Do not go to this school.

We chose Top Cop specifically because we respect law enforcement and felt that having current or…read moreformer law enforcement officers teaching our daughter would make us feel more comfortable. Unfortunately, our experience has been disappointing. The first time we arrived for my daughter's scheduled drive, we approached the car and the employee literally put his finger up, signaling for us not to come over. We stood there waiting until he eventually approached us, and he was not particularly friendly or welcoming. My daughter looked nervous getting into a car with a complete stranger, and as her mother, I was uncomfortable too. The fact that he was associated with law enforcement was honestly what made me feel comfortable enough to let her go. To be fair, when I picked her up, she told me he was very nice to her during the drive, which I appreciated. Then today, we arrived for her test and had almost the exact same type of interaction with another employee. We pulled up next to the Top Cop vehicle, and he continued looking at whatever he was working on inside his car without even acknowledging us. This really bothers me. You are asking parents to pay hundreds of dollars and then hand our teenage children over to strangers who will be alone with them in a vehicle. Is it really too much to expect your employees to smile, introduce themselves, acknowledge the parent, and make the teenager feel welcome and safe? These kids are already nervous! But what frustrates me the MOST is the money. We were led to believe that we HAD to spend approximately $700 because these services were legally required for our daughter to get her driver's license. Then this past week, one of her friends from school, who is the SAME AGE, was able to get a driver's license without their family spending anything close to what we were told we needed to spend. So what exactly did we HAVE to purchase, and what was optional? Because if there were other legal ways for our daughter to meet Colorado's licensing requirements without spending approximately $700, that should have been made crystal clear before we paid. $700 is a lot of money. How is a single parent or a family living paycheck to paycheck supposed to afford this? If all of these services weren't actually legally required, families deserve to know that BEFORE they spend hundreds of dollars. At this point, I genuinely feel misled, and I would like Top Cop to explain exactly which portions of what we purchased were legally required and which were optional. Depending on that answer, I also believe a refund should be discussed. We chose this company because the Top Cop name and law enforcement connection gave us a sense of trust. Unfortunately, the customer service and lack of clarity surrounding what we actually needed to purchase have seriously damaged that trust.
