Confluence Park encompasses the point where Cherry Creek flows into the South Platte River. This is…read morealso the spot where Denver was founded in May 1858. Beginning a city here proved to be a poor choice as the waterways were prone to periodic flooding. The City shifted to the northeast and this area was ignored and filled up with heavy industrial users. A huge flood in 1965 destroyed much of that infrastructure and provided an opportunity for redevelopment. The Greenway Foundation was a prime mover in the 1970s to create a park highlighting this area. A major update in the 1990s focused on floodplain management and further enhanced the park as a hub for the regional trail system. Today this is a highlight of Lower Downtown. Shoemaker Plaza begins at the REI building and extends down to the north edge of the South Platte River. The main park area begins at the south edge of the River and covers both sides of Cherry Creek. The trail system runs through this and continues north, south, and east. This is a beautiful space and exists in its own world, apart from the bustle of Lower Downtown. It is well worth a visit.

The trip was an incredible mix of thrills, skill, and crazy beautiful scenery you would not have guessed was there when you drive into Kremmling. Midway through, we stopped for snacks, and when we wrapped up, the crew served a delicious lunch and cold beers (NA options were there too!) such a nice touch after a big day! What sets Liquid Descent apart is the crew. Every guide I've had has been dedicated to making the trip special. I've talked to them and many of them have said they specifically choose to work here because of the company's extra training and the sense of community. Our guide, Koa, was the perfect balance of fun, kind, and incredibly skilled. He guided us through the rapids with such confidence and ease while also making sure everyone felt safe and included. He checked in on us several times throughout and made sure we were having fun, asked us if we wanted to "spice it up" a bit or keep it mellow and just really let us know this was "our" trip and he's cater to what we wanted. I quickly found myself letting go of fear and enjoying the moment... something I didn't expect would happen. Koa's energy was contagious, and his calm, respectful nature made us feel like we were in the best hands possible. At one point on the river, another rafting company had a mishap and we had to pull over and wait for them to recover and get their riders back into the raft safely. Koa explained what had happened with total grace - no judgment, no gossip - just a calm and respectful explanation. He also spoke so kindly of his own coworkers and even the owner of Liquid Descent. I explained there is a big issue with professionalism and communication with GRS and we canceled Thursday but were very excited and were very impressed with Wednesday guide Pete. He stated " thank you for bringing this to my attention but I don't feel comfortable about sending my guide out with you. I said I'm just bringing this to your attention and love working with Pete. He said he was canceling our trip! At this point now I'm mad! I try to help this guy and tell him we have no problem with Pete and it's your company that has the problem. Over half the people that are at the pool do not even live in the complex and are not guests of anyone. Anyone that claims that management patrols the area is either drunk themselves or is management trying to give itself a good review on here. The noise from the pool can be heard from down the block and this goes on from 10am until at least 3am even though management claims that they secure the pool area at 10pm (just as they claim to do to the roof top deck) but I guess it is easy to get a 10pm closure mixed up with an all night party spot.. If you enjoy not being able to relax and you want to have to weave your way through bodies, coolers, discarded "Adult Beverage" cups, trash (the human being and normal varieties), and you enjoy very loud music that comes at once from different sources to form a tidal wave of confused noise then by all means enjoy the pool!

So we got an adult to place the reservation on what appears to be their we portal. Had to make the reservation an hour earlier, which caused several folk to miss it as they were still at work. But turns out they are the real winners. Because those of us who went over early just got to talk to the manager telling us that they close at 4:00 and there are no canoes, and the reservation clearly was not with them. Who was it with? "Colorado Watersports"... well that is us, no reservation showed on their system, so they demanded to know WHO we made the reservation with, who did we talk to... https://www.coloradowatersports.com/ They claim to have no control over the web site. It lets me make a similar reservation for tomorrow. From which I conclude you should never make reservations with that web site as it is not for rentals at Colorado Watersports at Chatfield. Note: they made no move to get a canoe as they don't want canoes going out that late. Literally all the employees were just sitting around doing nothing except try to prove we don't have a reservation. Clearly they did not want our business. They did not provide any canoes as promissed. Do yourself a favor, look elsewhere.

We were in town from Arizona and the water was pretty choppy (dude said winds were ~10 mph... I think they were closer to 15 mph...) I am not in love with sit on top kayaks and I don't particularly love chop. Moving water? Fine. Rocking back and forth? Ehhhh. We only paddled for about 30-40 minutes because it was so windy. We paddled against the wind to get our bearings, floated/paddled to the other end with the wind, and then worked our arms off paddling back. My husband doesn't really enjoy that type of work out (ha!) so he got out and pulled his 'yak for a bit. I was more determined and paddled the whole way. It's a very chill area (or was in May) but if you wanted to bring a group of folks to paddle and sunbathe and eat some snacks on the shore (which apparently happens in the summer) you'll have a blast. We prefer barren, inclimate weather (seriously) so it was a perfect day for us.
