alpaca & llama farm

This is not a fully flat trail. Some parts are rocky, steep or both. It takes longer time to complete. Today we did 3 trails, 6.5 miles and 3h total. There is bridges, creeks in the woods. It was relaxing walking thru all. We also saw some caves in Rock Quarry Trail. The old kiln in Lime Kiln trail is also a must-see! Rock Quarry trail has the biggest parking lot, others are small and usually full. Bonus: When driving in, there is an alpaca and llama farm.

Wow. What a beautiful place, so close to west Saint Louis!! This reserve provides many options for your family... Picnic areas, short loop trail, longer loop, easy to difficult trails. The small ranger station includes a small interpretive bird trail as well to learn about the natives of different times of year!! My partner and I greatly enjoyed our few hours spent here. I would highly recommend for anyone who needs a weekend break. Dogs welcome!

COVID review. What can we do during a Covid year? Yes let's go outside and go for a hike. Aa This is a nice little gem tucked away Highway 109. Came here on a recommendation from a friend. There are some nice views and mild to moderate trails. Right across the street from the lime kiln trail is an alpaca farm. The trails are big enough to socially distance. Overall it was mildly busy. Can't wait to check this place out in the spring and summer when the water will be flowing through the creek. Trails are on average a few miles long. So in the summer definitely bring your water. Further into the park there are some picnic tables.

We hiked the trail among the trees. Think it was 1.5 miles on a mostly paved trail. Goes through Forest to an overlook about half way. Past rock formations and a creek Anne over a few bridges. Had a nice time

For Eastern Missouri, this was a highly enjoyable hike! I started at Lime Kiln Trailhead and ventured over to Trail Among the Trees halfway through. Through a round about meandering, I ended up going 6 miles on these two trails. There's enough elevation to get a good workout for an average hiker, but definitely not hard. There are creeks, big mossy rocks, and you can even catch a view of Hidden Valley ski slope from afar! I will be going back for another enjoyable hike.

Great area to hike with losts of trails.Went for National Take a Hike Day. We did a 3.5 mile hike and decided to venture off to do a 5 mile hike. Trail was well marked and there were losts of people out which made me feel safe. I also enjoyed to look out points. Very peaceful

Rockwood Reservation is easily one of the hidden gems/less appreciated hiking trails of the St. Louis-ish area. Castlewood gets all the the love but this place may easily overtake it as #1. RR has wayyy more trail options, it's less crowded, and the views are amazing. Plus, it's way more unique scenery. Sure, it might be a little farther out than Castlewood but it's worth the extra 10 minute drive. Plus, there are some beautiful cliff scenes and classic hidden bungalows. I recommend researching what trails end up where and how long they are...some of them don't end up exactly where you start but nothing too far. Maybe a couple blocks away? Also, looking ahead of time will give you an idea of what kinda views you're in store for. If you're reading this and have other amazing hiking trail recommendations then pm or compliment me! I must go. I can't wait to come back. I still have one more path to try out.

Located in Wildwood, near Eureka, Rockwoods Reservation is a great place for hiking. With 6 different trails at various lengths and difficulties, there is something for everyone. We went on a Sunday when the weather was perfect and encountered very few people. The first trail we hiked was called the "Trail Among the Trees". At 1.5 miles long, this paved trail was considered moderate difficulty with hilly inclines. Early spring is a good time to go when you can see through the forest without all the leaves on the trees, however I'm sure it's just as nice in the fall. You can grab a trail map/booklet at the trail-head which describes a few points of interest as you stroll through the forest. Highlights include a small abandoned mining area, a sealed off cave, wooden bridges and hilltop views. Note that the trail starts and ends in different places, but you can get back to the start along the road. The other trail that we hiked was the Rock Quarry Trail which has two loops at 1 mile and 2.2 miles. We took the short loop in reverse and found the steep incline to be a good challenge. I don't see an actual rock quarry, so I'd assume that it's on the longer loop. Regardless, it was still a nice view from the top. Unfortunately, we didn't make it to any of the other trails, but I do plan to return soon to hike the rest of them.

This is a nice park in the heart of Chesterfield. However, despite being in the heart of…read moreChesterfield (close to the interstate, the amphitheater and library), it was very quiet and hardly anyone was there. We came to see the Sculpture "The Awakening" which is a massive sculpture of a giant who is struggling to get out of the ground. It's not a single sculpture but five separate sculptures that make up "The Awakening". Great park to visit - not only for the sculpture but for some peace and quiet.

My husband and I came here when we came to St. Louis last week initially because I wanted to see…read more"The Awakening" sculpture, but overall, we loved it for many other reasons, as well! When we first got here, we noticed the park is in a pretty secluded area, and not many people were around unless they were going to the library that is connected to the parking lot. There are so many different parts of this park, including "The Awakening" sculpture, an amphitheater, a walking trail with a waterfront, and a Veterans memorial. The park was very clean, and we loved everything we experienced. The sculpture was so cool and is basically a steel man broken up into different separated body parts, who looks like he is trying to free himself from the ground. It's unbelievable how big this is in person, and we loved it. The Veterans Memorial was gorgeous and included significant quotes, a fountain, and American flags with every branch of the military included. The waterfront and trails were gorgeous, and we saw many HUGE ducks, cardinals, and wildlife. We loved the isolated walking trail because it had such beautiful views. Homes are being built around there, too, and the water would be such a gorgeous view to have every day from a home window. We weren't able to go to the amphitheater because they were getting ready for a summer night free concert event, but when we left, many people were gathering to go to the event. You can bring your own beer as long as it's in a can, so that's awesome and unlike many other public areas! Overall, if I lived in St. Louis, I could see myself regularly coming to this park and the surrounding area often. It's definitely a tranquil place where you can be one with nature and enjoy the views and entertainment.
