The inside is exactly how you want an event at a brewery to look, and the addition of the wedding pretties made it such a cool experience. I loved all the decor, especially the library room where the food was served! We got a tour of the barrel house and it ended with tastings of the bourbon county brand stout, which was great! The only bummer was that I loved the Vinyl beer and it's only available inside Chicago, sad day for me but man, I'll dream about that one on a hot summer day!

It is in a great location, with lots of small businesses around for guests to patronize before or after the wedding. The size was perfect for our ~110 person wedding. Allen, the venue manager, was great to work with (responds to emails within hours, not weeks). He makes wedding operations really easy with flexible load-in, load-out times. We also loved that we could choose the vendors we really wanted to be there on our special day, especially catering and bartending/alcohol. 10/10 would recommend for all Chicago couples!

What is really great is that they have a calendar already on their website of availability, removing that initial email-tag and we only reached out after seeing one of the dates we wanted was available. Alex (the owner). Alex and Orlando (Event Manager) were fantastic. Really great communicators, friendly, accommodating, and just good people. We had good vibes from them immediately which put our wedding planning (which was a tight timeline and a destination wedding) at ease. Alex and Orlando were present the day of and everything with the venue was so smooth. Our grand entrance with Orlando driving us in the Tuk Tuk was something our guests still talk about! The curve appeal has a lot to be desired but that I think that's also the charm of the Fairlie - it's like a hidden gem. The high ceilings are so grand with floor to ceilings curtains which section off the space perfectly so you can have your ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception in one space. The space is that Chicago Industrial vibe but has a lot of potential to create. The double staircase is a showstopper and when I saw, I knew I wanted to dress it up. There's also a small parking lot which was great for immediate family and plenty of free street parking in the area. Tables and chairs are included as well as the Tuk tuk! They also already have some great uplighting in the space where we felt like we didn't need to purchase any extra. What really drew us to the space was: 1. BYOB (that was with your caterer). They do have a preferred list of caterers and we went with Hearty Boys. 2. TWO bridal suites for use, a groom suite on the main floor, and a bride suite on the upper mezzanine level 3. Can party as late as Midnight (required to have 90 minute cleanout time for vendors) 4. There is a large space additional space in the Mezzanine level where we able to have our traditional Tea Ceremony before our wedding ceremony for family only (at no extra cost). Overall, we had a really great experience with Fairlie and would recommend to anyone looking at Chicago venues.

I had my wedding reception at Michelle's several weeks ago. I made sure to wait until I received…read morethe deposit before writing a review (see negatives #3). Here's my synopsis... Positives - 1. It is inexpensive. 2. It is public trans/cab/parking friendly. 3. The ballroom is mostly attractive and has a large dance floor. The building could use some new paint, though. 4. You bring everything in, except for chairs and tables. (also kind of a negative if you get easily overwhelmed and it involves a lot of research to get good prices). It also allows you a lot of flexibility with food and beverages. 5. The bridal suite is rather large, though it does not have a bathroom nearby. Negatives - 1. See above #4. It was kind of a nightmare to buy and transport all of the extra things we had to bring. No one told us that we could bring anything earlier than 4 hours before the start time. 2. The bartender that I was forced to hire through the ballroom was not a bartender. He didn't know the difference between the red and white wines; he couldn't make a bloody mary with bloody mary mix and forget about my request for a dirty martini. My friends had to walk him through a bloody mary and the dirty martini. I wasted money on a lot of standard bar stuff that was not used at all - like simple syrup; Rose's lime juice; pickles for the bloody marys, etc. 3. Our group allegedly cause damage to one of the bathroom walls. The wedding was on a Friday and Michelle's had 3 events posted to their online calendar after our wedding. I did not receive a call until Monday morning regarding the damage. I am not saying that it is impossible that our group did not cause the damage, but I wish that someone had called us on Saturday or emailed pictures of the damage. Basically, we lost a chunk of our deposit for something that I am not sure happened during our reception. 4. Binny's said that they had problems delivering to that specific location and wanted a 4 hour window for delivery. They weren't really clear what problems they had in the past. We had to use a courier for the alcohol to ensure that it was delivered on time. Long story short, I would probably recommend having an event at Michelle's if you are on a tight budget. Just don't expect a real bartender and take pictures of the ballroom before you leave!

UNPROFESSIONAL OWNERSHIP Update: an indication of the lack…read moreof professionalism is the suggestion that I rallied my friends and family to leave low reviews in search of a refund. We already know we aren't getting a refund. The owner made that clear when we tried to remedy the situation with her over the phone. Nicolle was informed of the lack of AC during the event by a staffer who told me herself that she'd contacted Nicolle. Another indicator of her lacking professionalism is the angry emails she sent me regarding my Yelp review - no apology, just anger and threats to have my Yelp account blocked and shut down. She says we toured the venue 6 times... we saw it 3x. Finally, she dismissed the fact that her staffers were unprofessional and didn't know how to tap kegs/mix drinks just because my dad provided a generous tip. If you read the review my dad left (HJ), you'll see that his generous tip does not reflect his dissatisfaction with the service. He's just a generous tipper. I want to start by saying that I had an amazing wedding; definitely the wedding of my dreams thanks to my wedding parties and family. However, the service from the owner Nicolle was just terrible and so unprofessional. When it came to securing a contract or receiving payment, she was on top of the communication. It wasn't until after she met my now-husband and wedding parties that her friendly and responsive demeanor entirely changed. She was condescending and treated us like children. Prior to meeting my entourage, I asked about security and she said that we wouldn't need it unless we wanted it. After meeting my entourage, she told me that since my crowd is mostly younger (it wasn't) she would be contracting security for our event to ensure that we weren't serving alcohol to minors. What an assumption! Whatever age we are, we are paying her and deserve to be treated with respect. Her contract stated that a week prior to the event we would communicate any accommodations or other details for the event, including possible early drop off or arrival of decor. I called her twice and emailed her a follow up - never received a response from her except for her to tell me that she was unable to accommodate us any more - 6 days later & 2 days before my wedding. Her lack of attention to detail could have ruined my day. Bartenders who couldn't tap a keg (she knew we'd have kegs 6 weeks prior to event date) and refused to mix drinks, and her "industrial strength AC" that she promised didn't work throughout the entire 80 degree day and showed "service required." She refused to honor any of these mistakes and stated that there was an event the day after and everything was fine. Maybe a smaller crowd would have been fine but 80 people in suits and cocktail attire were drenched with sweat. Fortunately I had fantastic family and friends who made sure my day was magical. The space is cute but the professionalism is nonexistent and a HUGE headache.

Lovely venue! Attended a dance event here many years ago, and selected this space for an offsite…read morework meeting. We had ample space for 15 of us, with different "work zones" for our meeting activities throughout the day -- and probably would have still felt this way with double the people. It was spacious enough for us to spread out, but still feels cozy with the mix-and-match decor. Appreciated the option to have some light catering to sustain us, without having to do all the legwork for that - and Nicolle was attentive to requests during the contracting/ setup phase. For a corporate meeting - we challenged the wi-fi capacity as we had a lot of folks joining video remotely; if A/V is your top need, this may not be your ideal spot without some additional technology brought in. For a fully or mostly in-person workshop or meeting in a unique space, go for it! Looking forward to hosting here again.
