Here's another spot to add to our "random road trip finds". We drove past the shop on our way up north, and decided to check it out. We didn't know what to expect, but were definitely pleasantly surprised. The proprietor was super friendly, and excited to show off his rock art. Our girls loved the free "lucky rocks" that he hands out to visitors. Oh, and the pasties? Really, really yummy. We bought several varieties and enjoyed them all. Our favorites were the biscuits and gravy and the cabbage and ground beef. We also took home a couple of jars of Idiot Pickles. They're sweet, salty, tangy, and a little spicy. Really hard to explain the flavor, but they're unique and pretty good! Make sure to stop here if you're ever in the area. It's totally worth it! read more

We've passed this place on our way up north for years. We finally took the plunge and stopped in to pick up frozen pasties on our way home from up north. Our favorite place in Rhinelander moved to the U.P. and we were missing our beloved pockets of deliciousness so we thought, "How bad can they be?". Okay, for the good part - this place is quirky and fun - a true roadside attraction. I don't want to take that away from it. The guy working was also very nice. But the bad news, these were not pasties nor were they even good savory hand pies. The dough is very sweet and dry - sweet like a cookie sweet - and very off-putting. We tried a "classic pasty" and a pork BBQ one. The filling of the "classic" was flavored with what I think was dill - still not sure though? It was weird. The BBQ filling had been ground into a paste, basically, and was unbearably sweet. We didn't even finish them. I feel bad writing this review, but I want people to understand what these pasties are like. If you're expecting something close to a traditional pasty, these aren't even in the ballpark. If you think well, they'll be like a calzone - nope. If you are accustomed to very sweet savory food, they might be your jam. This is one of those middle of no where, off beat gems that you have to check out if you ever happen to pass by this area. Well, you actually have to take a detour to get there but still worth it. A lady I used to work with is a big fan of their pasties. So we stopped by when we were hading up to her northern Wisconsin lake home. But don't go there for the pasties, I mean they have quite a selection of pasties. We took a bunchof frozen pasties to go. They were good but I prefer fresh ones. But the place is so unique. When you walk in you will be in mesmerized by the rock artifacts. I mean this guy has some pretty crazy rock art. I mean crazy. He will be happy to demonstrate his gizmos to you while you wait for your pasties. I had stiches laughing so hard. You'll love this place. To me this is an attraction by itself. read more

This was such a fun unique experience! Stopped in on our way back to Milwaukee from a family vacation. Thought the pasties were quite tasty, loved the sweetness of the crust. The eclectic silly rock art all over the walls was so fun to look at and and the owner Don is so sweet. One star off because he charges like $5 each to heat up your pasty for you to eat rather than take home and heat yourself but I didn't mind too much to support a guy obviously living the dream running his business his own way. Tried the rutabaga and the bacon scrambled pasties and enjoyed both. Next time would probably go for a saucier one like the biscuits and gravy, chicken pot pie, or chili cheese. read more

If you want pasties, don't come here. If you want to see a lot of rocks and gags with rocks, then come here. Easy enough. Yes, there are a lot of flavors, but is it worth it? The crust is purposely made different and they call their pasties, Rockin-Pockets. Whatever they are, it doesn't really matter. The Pasty Guy suggests driving a couple hours north to find a real pasty. read more

Rocks really are FUN!! This place is a must stop! First come for the pasties!! They are delicious! Lots of variety and great quality ingredients. You are going to have a hard time picking just one...don't limit yourself! You can also take some home. They have them conveniently frozen to take home. Great gifts! While you enjoy the yummy pasties you can laugh and smile at all of Don's rock creations!! We left with happy full bellies, smiles on our faces, and a cute lucky pet rock!!! Having lived in the Upper Peninsula most of my life I have tried pasties from all over Michigan some good some not so good. We purchased four pasties took three bites and threw the other three in the garbage where they belong. Crust was nasty, if you're lucky two ounces of meat and potatoes. Only given a one star because there's nothing less. Owner might want to consider making a trip to the UP to see what a good pasty taste like. Don't waste your time or money. I think I would have rather ate the rocks. read more

Lousy pasty at an outrageous price! $10.50 per pasty if you eat it there even though website says $5.50. Pasty was small with a thick bread type crust. Worst pasty I have ever eaten! read more

This place is unique in it's style...over the top cutesy rock creations everywhere., thus at least amusing. The food on the other hand was edible at best. The owner takes great pride in his pasties and isn't shy talking about how fabulous they are compared to those that originated in the upper peninsula fo Michigan. While he is obviously filled with endless creative ideas, sometimes the wholesome basics the original basic, utilitarian food with all it's full-flavored wholesome, if rather plain ingredients best. The owner/cook at this place takes great pride in his off the wall combinations, 95% of which include his 'mixture of 21 spices', 20 of them being totally unknown because they are overpowered by his heavy use of celery seed, a rather 'mid-last century pickling spice'...overpowering whatever other ingredients he includes in his pasties. " We ate onsite as well as buying 6 different frozen pasties to take with us. We ate one of these following his microwave instructions. This was a scrambled egg pasty, one of only 2 that did not contain celery seed. Sadly, it was extremely dry, the crust very tough and leathery (same as the fresh baked pasty we tried onsite) but the most disappointing part was the finely minced scrambled eggs and whatever else it was that he included in this variety. We were so disappointed by this carry out pasty as well as those we ate in the restaurant, that we gave the rest of those we bought, to relatives, before leaving the area. I gave this place 2 stars for creativity and mild amusement, friendliness and attentive service...all positives in a dining experience. Sadly, the food with the dreadfully overpowering all pervasive celery seed, doesn't measure up to any starts at all. read more
