Rock and ropes is probably this biggest indoor rock climbing center I've been to. They offer military discount on Monday and Friday but don't forget to check in on yelp! Since you can get 50% off their rental equipment, dope right? This is the first place that has ever offered that. You get shoes and the harness as the equipment that you'll be renting. The staff was friendly, they taught us how to put on the harness and how to use the automatic belaying rope. They have many routes that you can climb on the wall or on the boulders. If you go upstairs they also have a place where you could free climb and it can get tricky with the angle of the wall. I'm still a amateur at this but I will be back to go at it again. The automatic belaying was helpful because if you go by yourself or with friends that are new to this sport, you don't have to worry about falling. Once you let go, it would catch you and slowly lowering it back down to the floor. Oh yeah I forgot to say that military members also get a sweet deal on their membership. I can't recall the benefits for joining their membership but why don't you come in with some friends and try out rock climbing! Hey, you might just become a member!

This place is SO much fun! Whether you're into bouldering, sport climbing, or lead climbing they have it all. First timer or long time climber, you will feel right at home. They also do lead certification if you're interested. Staff is fantastic and you can tell they really know their stuff. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a good climbing gym or want to try something new!

One of my favorite spots in Tucson. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and I've found the climbing community to be very welcoming. It can get a little crowded in the evening, but people are generally courteous and patient. It saddens me to see negative reviews about R&R. I have only good things to say about this gym! Thanks for serving the Tucson community with an excellent climbing experience.

When snowbirds are here you can't really get into classes ( most are great) unless you set alarms for yourself and sign up a couple of days ahead. The place skews older and I although there are high school kids there in the afternoons it's not age diverse. Plus side is it's very forgiving and a great place to start weight lifting and more. There are paid programs for that and I think that would be worth it. I belong to a few other places so it's not a problem. I really like yin yoga there and trx . I discovered the Tucson Jewish Community Center after they hosted the Hot Cocoa Run 5K (hands down one of the funnest, most vendor-packed races I've ever done ), and let me tell you--walking into the JCC feels like stepping into a whole other world. This place is HUGE and has everything. They gifted a week pass in our swag bags from 5k and I fully leaned in--and I'm so glad I did. First off, the community + programming here is next level. I got to participate in pottery and ceramics classes (SO fun and surprisingly legit), and I love that they partner with local creatives and groups. It gives the whole place a collab, community-driven feel that I'm always looking for. On the fitness side--they're not playing around. I took multiple classes, and their cycle class (aka performance ride ) was actually really solid. Great energy, great programming. I also hit a strength-based class that delivered, and the gym floor itself is super clean, spacious, and not overcrowded (major win). The crowd is also refreshingly diverse in age, which I loved--it truly feels inclusive. And can we talk about the Cafe at the J... because YES. Tons of vegan options , actually flavorful, and super affordable. Not your typical "gym cafe" situation at all. Beyond that, this place is basically a mini campus--tennis, pools, art spaces, events, rentals, and even traditional Jewish baked goods (fresh bread, hello ). They also host a TON of events--like so many it's hard to keep up--so definitely check their calendar because there's always something happening. Overall, I'd absolutely go back. Whether you're going for fitness, arts, community events, or just to explore something new in Tucson--this place is a whole experience.

On March 8, 2026, around 1-3 AM, I saw a young member being aggressively chased by an employee for what appeared to be a personal issue. The kid had simply scanned his membership card and was walking toward the locker room, minding his own business. The employee immediately approached him in a confrontational manner, followed him through the gym, and even went outside after him. The young man was clearly trying to avoid any confrontation and repeatedly shouted, "Stop! Why are you doing this? I didn't even do anything!" Three other gym members had to step in to de-escalate the situation. During this time, the employee reportedly called 911 and claimed the kid attacked him with a knife, which completely contradicts what I witnessed. From my perspective, the young member was simply trying to use the gym like any paying customer, while the employee escalated a personal conflict into a dangerous situation. The fact that the kid was later reportedly banned is shocking and completely unfair. Planet Fitness employees are supposed to ensure safety and professionalism. Instead, I saw a grown adult use his position to intimidate and chase a scared, polite young member. No one should feel unsafe or chased out of a gym. Management should review security footage immediately and take serious action. I cannot in good conscience recommend this gym. This location clearly failed to protect its members, and it was deeply disturbing to witness.

This place is no f*cking joke. First off, this is an old-school strength gym, and I mean that in the best way possible. It's not bougie, it's not aesthetic-driven, and it's definitely not trying to be a trendy Instagram gym. It's gritty, it's real, and it's built for people who actually want to get stronger. They've got everythinggggg!Olympic lifting, strongman training, personal training, group classes, nutrition coaching... even a calisthenics coach (which is honestly rare to find). Whether you're a beginner wanting to level up or someone who's already deep in fitness and feels like you've outgrown franchise gyms... this is where you go to get humbled REAL quick. And I love that. The tour alone sold me. Front desk was super welcoming, and the owner was already on it with communication before we even walked in. You can tell this place runs on passion and community, not flashy marketing. Inside? Old-school equipment (my personal favorite &way more effective than a lot of the newer stuff IMO). Outside? A full-on training setup with turf, tires, and space to actually move. There's also indoor turf, kettlebells, and room to train however you want. This is a no-BS, get-it-done gym. One of my favorite parts though? The people. You've got folks in their 70s and 80s lifting alongside everyone else and that's powerful. As a woman in my 40s, that kind of environment hits different. Strength training isn't optional, it's essential & this is the kind of place where you do it right. Also love that they have options for everyone: * Memberships * Personal training * Group classes (super affordable around $20/class once you're cleared) * Even drop-in options for travelers It's flexible, which you don't always see in more serious gyms. And honestly... if you're the person who's always finishing first in group classes and not really getting pushed anymore? Come here. You will be challenged. In the best way. This place feels like a local secret , very word-of-mouth, very "if you know, you know." Not overcrowded (especially midday), dedicated community, and zero fluff. Soooo yeah... I'm hooked. If you're serious about getting stronger -- not just sweating, but actually building strength & this might be the gym in Tucson.

This welcoming environment, however, is in spite of, not because of, its owner, who uses his brand's social media account to mock people for, among other things, having pronouns in their bio, and when confronted on this, will delete comments critical of those actions. https://www.instagram.com/p/DYfR3r9yPIv/ As such, it becomes difficult to recommend Tucson Strength as a welcoming place if you are someone who expects to have your gender identity respected, as the owner believes "pronouns are a social construct" that he "does not buy into" and that "there are [only] two genders" He is obviously welcome to these opinions, in the same way I am welcome to take my business elsewhere, while letting others know they may not feel welcome in this space. It is truly disappointing that the owner of a gym with a "Don't be an asshole" sign cannot live up to that most basic of principles. All of that said, I cannot in good conscience give a review less than three stars, as at the end of the day it has the makings of a potentially fantastic gym that's *actually* a welcoming place for *anyone*, and I have incredibly fond memories of my time there. It was with great disappointment that I canceled my membership, but I simply no longer felt welcome at a place owned by an online bully, who claims everyone is welcome in his space, while at the same time using his public business account to hunt down and mock those who think differently than him.
