Springfield Animal Hospital - Nelly recouping

After 14 years I am changing veterinarians. In the past few years there's been a change of…read moreownership and, after that change, my favorite vet on staff quit and is practicing in Rutland--too far to go for aging animals who will need more frequent care in the next few years. Dr. Cindy Porter provides excellent care and communicates well, but only works part time. There have been instances where I needed to get my animal immediately and she wasn't working that day. If she is available I highly recommend her. Dr. Brad Temple is a good vet medically, but I always feel like he's recommending every possible service. He's either ultra-conservative or he's trying to drive up the bill. He's one of the owners. The bill-padding is the reason I am going to switch clinics. Dr. Dena Meehan. I will not take my animals to this woman. I observed her "bedside manner" with my little dog years ago and after that I said never again. I felt she was unfeeling and cold. She is co-owner with Dr. Temple.

We were able to get a nearly immediate appointment when Nelly was vomiting and coughing. Dr Brad diagnosed the issue quickly and provided us with our options. Nelly had surgery the following week and has recovered fully. The entire procedure came in under the estimated fee. Follow up visits, including one where I was worried about her incision and just needed reassurance that it was ok, were all included in the surgical fee. And that fee was reasonable and fair, in my opinion. I would not hesitate to bring my pets back for care and highly recommend them.

I have never left a negative review for a veterinary hospital because I understand that most…read moreclinics are understaffed, managing emotionally charged situations, emergencies, rising costs, and significant burnout. That said, I feel obligated to share my experience. I initially brought my cat in for an examination and urine culture. The appointment took approximately three hours, which was surprising given the nature of the visit. I have experience working in shelters and veterinary settings, so I came prepared with detailed notes in an effort to make the appointment as efficient as possible. I was later told that extended wait times in exam rooms are not uncommon at this practice. I have nothing negative to say about Dr. Lindo. She was knowledgeable, collaborative, conversational, and open-minded. Based on my interaction with her alone, I would have been willing to return. Unfortunately, the remainder of my experience raised serious concerns. During the visit, a manager assisted in handling my special-needs cat. The handling was unnecessarily forceful, including scruffing and allowing him to struggle excessively. As someone familiar with handling practices, I found this troubling and inconsistent with low-stress and fear-free techniques. The most concerning issue involved my cat's urine culture. I paid approximately $700 for the visit, which included sending out the culture. I routinely request urine cultures because they identify the specific bacteria causing an infection and help ensure the correct antibiotic is chosen, reducing unnecessary antibiotic use and helping prevent resistance. In my experience, these results typically return within five days. More than three weeks have now passed, and I still have not received the results. Because of the delay, I ultimately had to start my cat on antibiotics without the benefit of the diagnostic testing I paid for. At this point, even if the results are eventually provided, their clinical usefulness has been significantly diminished by the passage of time. I have called multiple times seeking an update. On each occasion, I was told someone would call me back, yet I never received a return call. When I did speak with management, I found the communication unprofessional and concerning. I had originally planned to have my younger cat spayed at this hospital. However, given the handling concerns, lack of communication, and failure to provide the diagnostic results I paid for within an appropriate timeframe, I no longer feel comfortable entrusting my pets to their care.

I was thinking of not writing a review because this is the best-kept secret in the veterinary…read moreworld. To say I am impressed is far too short of our experience. Dr. Claire was top-notch. Not only does she has the experience to diagnose our family dog, but she also has the BEST "Dog Side Manner" I have ever experienced in a veterinary office. Dr. Clair's professionalism was like talking to a family member. She took the time to explain in detail our doggie's ailment. The intake staff was absolutely a member of the team. Best of all, our hats off to Raza. You will not find anyone better in any veterinary clinic that can fulfill his role and support "patients" and clients. Dr. Claire's group is really one of the best. Having come from Southern California, where veterinary clinics are large in numbers, we found a home for our Samantha under the care of Charlestown Animal Hospital.] The team really deserves more than a five-star rating!
