The experience usually great, which is why we keep coming back, and the menu is always fun! The service started great and the food came looking fantastic as usual, until I found a long hair in my bowl. Molly was very apologetic once we showed her the hair and she took it inside to show the kitchen. I told her I don't want another bowl , as I didn't want the food to go to waste and didn't have time to wait for a new one. Here is were the service turned south; - Molly didn't come back to check on us or fill the water cups - We didn't get a discount of any kind in the check, as you would normally expect! - I expected the chef or the manager on duty to come out and apologize, but that didn't happen. - Finally, Molly brought our check when we finished eating and didn't ask if we are interested in desserts, as typically the case! Just very odd reaction to an issue Like this, and shows lack of professionalism and training on behalf of the management on how to deal with bad customer experience like a hair in the food. By the way, I'm bold, so the long hair is from the kitchen!

OK, what is there not to love about Bridgeforth Stadium at James Madison University??!…read more First, it's at JMU. So, BOOM. Done. It's located right by the JMU bookstore in the heart of campus and you can't miss it when driving through the main entrance. Loads of parking is nearby, but it's all for tailgating and you have to have a permit/ticket for that. You need to prepare to park and walk at one of the main garages or further away and ride a shuttle. So prep in advance and wear comfy shoes! I remember when I attended college here we didn't have the large addition with concessions and box seats and the large updated fancy scoreboard. It was a very different experience. Now, this stadium can hold nearly 25,000 people with a large scoreboard, tons of seating and concessions stands, bathrooms, box seats, season ticket holders, etc. It's a fun experience now and they have halftime games, giveaways and contests, and fun stuff to involve the audience during game play with games and videos on the large scoreboard screen. Be warned, if you came for a game you absolutely cannot bring in a purse or backpack. You have to have a small, see-through bag of a certain size (check the website for more details if needed) or you're going to be turned away to either throw it away before entering, or take it back to your car which could be very far away. So prep in advance. JMU likes to tailgate so get here early to shop, wander around, revel in the team spirit, and find your seats. It's a long trek to the 103,203 sections and that area when you enter and you cannot leave once you're inside and come back so you might need to allow 20+ minutes to get to your seats before kickoff if you don't want to miss anything. They give away purple and gold streamers, throw items into the crowds like candy and t-shirts, and usually give out free purple JMU memorabilia. Prices at concession are fair and they have nice selections and keepsake cups for both soda and warm drinks like coffee and chocolate milk. They have burgers, hot dogs, pretzels, cheese, nachos, and they had a lobster roll special for $4.50 last weekend. Prepare for the purple and gold takeover as far as the eye can see! I LOVE IT!

The 125 acre urban arboretum "provides all students and community members with an outdoor classroom, a forested haven that is home to a rich oak-hickory habitat of flora and fauna, flowering gardens, and native wildflowers." The arboretum is open from dawn to dusk 365 days a year, and has free admission. (That said, I encourage you to support the EJC by becoming a member). We enjoyed walking on the 0.9 easy loop trail, passing through or near the family garden, the oak-hickory forest, fern valley, the pond, and more. Being late October, there weren't any flowering plants, but it didn't matter. There are restrooms, family restrooms, a water fountain, picnic area, a few benches, and an information kiosk. There are also three free parking areas on University Blvd, all with handicap parking spaces. We parked in the largest R5 lot. The garden and paths are well-maintained and enjoyed by a variety of users -- students, people walking their leased dogs, and older folks getting in some gentle exercise. I had only two disappointments -- (1) I so enjoyed the arboretum that I wish it were bigger! (2) can hear some traffic noise, but I guess you'd have to expect that in an urban garden. We look forward to returning when next in Harrisonburg!

While the streambed running through it was dry, it had the insect population of a wetland and I struggled to stop and be still at any point during my exploration. Most of the other attendees, however, appeared older than college students. There were certainly some interesting sights to be seen, and no charge to get in.

The wine tasting was nice. With large parties you are given a flight to try. No need to stand in the tasting room. I liked several of the flavors. After the tasting we took a walk around the grounds taking in all the animals. Because it was winter, we didn't spend a lot of time in the lavender fields. We did however visit the lavender shop. I purchased a lavender honey spot and some delightful lemon crunch lavender ice cream. Overall staff were friendly. I would recommend this business for anyone in the area or visiting massanutten.

You can bring your own charcuterie platters, which is what we did to go along with our tastings. They have tasting room called the Purple Wolf Vineyard where you can purchase your portable tastings, wine, beer and slushy flights . I would definitely return again, great place to host a cute birthday event, with your friends. They also have a really nice gift shop as well.
