Went here for lunch on a Tuesday. Lots of places not open mid-week. They are missing out on LOTS of business! Rockies was PACKED at noon! Servers, bar staff, cooks did amazing keeping up. Food was incredible as well. Waterfront burger was great. I didn't care for the tons of grilled onions on it. But that's a personal preference, and it easily comes off. We sat outside at the bar and service was great. I loved the classic rock playing. Everything was great, including food. They have a dog friendly patio! I loved seeing everyone's pups (made me miss my dog). I think if you're coming out of the national park and find yourself in Grand Lake, I think this is a good spot for some food after a hike/drive. The staff at Rockies were very friendly and let us change tables to a shadier spot but it all went downhill from there. Our server started off strong by confirming our order and asking if we're ok with the charcuterie coming out first - which we were ok with. Our drinks came out relatively fast, then our food took over an hour. We didn't mind waiting but our server never came to check on us and we wanted another round of drinks. We flagged down another server who said she would find ours. Shortly after that our server emerged, didn't make eye contact with us and walked right past us - three times! The other server checked on us twice before our server came to get our drink order. Why didn't SHE just take our order?? So frustrating. She did eventually take our order. 20 minutes later, the other server came by to ask if we were ok. We said we didn't have drinks and she asked what we ordered. At that point she told us one of the beers we ordered is out of stock. Why didn't our waitress tell us this in the first place? She did say she would take the beer, which we appreciated. Finally our food came out, but not the charcuterie. They couldn't tell us which burger was medium vs medium rare. The tater tots were overcooked and crumbled at our finger tips. The grilled cheese sounded great but lacked cheese and it wasn't fully melted. When we asked for the bill, our server told us she needed to take my card and run it inside. Despite my reservations, I agreed. When I got the receipt I saw that we were charged for the beer that was not in stock. That was the last straw- I asked for the manager (which I never do). The bartender told me he was cooking and offered to help. I let him know the whole story and the hostess (who was so sweet) heard and took over. She not on refunded the beer but gave a us a 50% discount. While that was very nice and she apologized profusely, I cannot recommend this place. Have been in this area many times over the years, but never ate here and gave it a try. The inside is nothing to write home about. It certainly needs a good cleaning and update. Our server was not doing a great job as we waited for everything. The menu is varied, with appetizers, burgers, sandwiches and a few entrees. At 1 pm they were out of their elk sausage soup. We decided to share the wonton appetizer, which came out quickly and was good. Ham and cheese were hot and gooey and the guacamole dipping sauce was good. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries for my meal, which came out cooked at the right temperature and the fries were good. Why 3 stars? Service wasn't good, flies were all over, and our lunch was $75. I don't think I have ever eaten an $18 cheeseburger before. I have had $10 burgers which were just as good. I know this is a tourist spot, but we paid more for our meal here than anywhere we did in Denver. read more

We really enjoyed it! We were actually on our way to a different restaurant and stumbled on this location. We took a look at the menu--which was an odd mixture of cultures but suited our different pallets, and decided to give it a go. We were pleasantly surprised! Everyone in our group enjoyed their meals. The service was good, not great. They weren't super busy, but kept bussing our table like they had a line out the door which didn't feel super welcoming, but the speed to get our food was pretty fast. Everything that was hot came out right after it was cooked instead of sitting under a heat lamp. Everything that was supposed to be cold came out nice and fresh and crisp. I had the poke bowl which had refreshing flavor and the seared tuna was surprisingly perfectly cooked and not fishy at all. The family had burgers and caprese salads and duck drummettes. We wished the caprese had basil, but alas it was on a large bed of spring greens. Skip the greens and just eat the barrata with tomato and crostini and it was still delicious. Duck was strange tasting. Was hoping the duck would be super crisp and have a better sauce. It had a very fatty flavor, even for duck. Burgers were great. Cooked well, and accompanied by quality ingredients. We had tater tots as a side for the burgers and they were perfect. We would recommend this place for their patio and ability to serve quality food in a timely manner. We came on a Tuesday afternoon, so not super busy. read more

Our server paid little to no attention once our food was delivered. Food - Good. My wife and I shared a fried wonton with ham and cheese appetizer, which was great. I ordered the Double American Cheeseburger. The patties are 5 oz each and so the protein on a double is substantial. The hamburger was cooked to order and the house sauce tasty. The French Fries were decent. The bun was fairly fresh. Overall Value - Average. My burger and fries alone were priced at $22. Yes, the meal was good and it is a tourist town. I had a horrible experience there. They charged me $130 for five beers and three mixed drinks and in order of hard-boiled eggs. I spoke to the owner about it and he told me that it was fair and that I needed to accept what happened. If I do this in another bar in Grand Lake I pay about $40. Our family has been 3x this summer and it has been a consistent and high-quality experience each time. Family favorites: deviled eggs and brussels sprouts (both from starter menu but a full meal together); poke bowl with ahi tuna (or chicken); the waterfront burger w/ caramelized onions; bread pudding. Only the restrooms were worth stopping for. The food was not good at all. Traveling with my Dining Partner and daughters, we stopped here to use the restroom, but we were also hungry. It was the first place we came to. I wish I would have parked on the Eastern part of town. I understand that we went in winter, and that may affect some of the food issues. But still. I noticed there was an elk sausage sandwich, and an elk sandwich on the menu. I'm not much for sausage due to the fat content, so I ordered the elk sandwich. Much to my surprise, I was brought an elk sausage in a hotdog bun. I was too shocked to say anything, and too hungry to not eat it. It was decent, but what I really wanted was a nice lean sandwich. Dining Partner ordered the tilapia. I've made plenty of frozen tilapia in my day, but this was soo fishy!! I couldn't believe it. She ate her salad and my fries. Daughter 1 ordered the pasta Alfredo. Staff asked if she wanted to add chicken. I noticed the $7 price tag, but she was saying "yes" before I could say "no". This was the most disgusting of the dishes. The chicken was a fried patty, sliced. The texture was slimy. The flavor was unswallowable. I actually spat it out. The Alfredo sauce was also terrible. It tasted slightly sour, or, spoiled. I'm not saying it was. I'm just saying that's how it tasted. She ate her fries. Daughter 2 ordered the peanut butter and jelly and was not disappointed. Upon "completion" of our meal, waitstaff asked if she could box up the Alfredo and chicken. I said "no, thank you. It was disgusting", and she said I should have told her sooner. The issue is, we hadn't seen her between dropping off the food and her bringing the check. Yes, she took the Alfredo off the bill. I'm glad she didn't offer to swap it with something, because I don't know what it would have been. PBJ, maybe. Overall, the waitstaff wasn't horrible, but the food was. I would not eat here again if you paid for my flight and meal. If you're in Grand Lake, keep walking past Rockies. There are plenty of other restaurants. You can thank me later!!! :) read more

I even told my family we could just leave $5 on the table and walk out. We got a "chicken burger" that was rubbery and tasted like it was a budget store-bought product that they dropped in a frier. Honestly, I have bought frozen things better than this. The other thing we got was a burger and it was equally bad. It tasted like a Bar-S frozen patty from Walmart covered in wayyyyy too much mayo and mustard. The electric fireplace had trophies above it which were all identical. I looked at them closely on the way out and they all had labels for movies on them. Maybe an effort to convince people it is an award winning establishment??? It was a waste of $50. Probably the worst place I have eaten at in decades. Also, the waiter tried to take the payment terminal from me before I could answer the review it prompted me for. We were excited to try this fairly new restaurant in Grand Lake. The "crispy" onion rings were soggy. I ordered a hot tea. It's $2.99 on the menu but I was charged $3.99. When I questioned the waitress she said it was $3.99. When I showed her the menu she just looked at us. No apologies. No offer to make it right. They will not show you a bill until after you give them your credit card and swipe it on their hand held kiosk. We won't be back. You won't be in business long with your ethics. read more

This was the most unexpected delight! We had headed to a different restaurant for dinner, only to be told there'd be an hour plus wait. Since we were starving, we decided to walk down the street, and we were a bit skeptical when we walked past Rockies, just because there weren't a ton of people there, and we were going to be sitting at a picnic bench. I asked the group that was leaving if it was good, and they raved about it, so we decided to give it a shot! I am so glad we did! We had a pitcher of mojitos which were out of this world, and then the grilled chicken over cilantro arisottado rice...I would seriously have the rice delivered to my house every day if I could! SOOOOO delicious and flavorful! We also had one of the burgers and that was equally delicious. The owner came out and chatted with us, and he was so friendly. And everyone in our group (all nine of us) really enjoyed what we ordered! I'll add it to my list of Grand Lake faves! read more

Delicious! My son ordered chicken tacos and I had fish tacos. Both proteins were prepared perfectly in a light crisp tempura, topped with a fresh slaw of cabbage, onion, tomato and a chipotle mayo (with a little kick) on the side for drizzling on top. Excellent fresh corn tortillas and flour tortillas. All of it was very tasty! My husband had the meat lover's burger seasoned and sauced well, that had a nicely spiced elk sausage on top on a homemade roll. The fries were thin and crispy and oh so addictive!! Pamela was outstanding in her cheerful, professional service!! This place is definitely up-and-coming. Pamela let us know about their continued renovation and expansion of their outdoor dining. We visited in May when it was still chilly and sat indoors at a booth. Try this place if you're visiting Grand Lake. They are clearly proud of their establishment, and it shines through in their delicious food and attention to the customer. I'd give it zero stars really. Management, look at your counter in the main dining room. Full of dishes? Leftover staff drinks? Whatever? That's not very inviting. Waiter, ask for drinks and then not bring them? Really? Food, not very edible. We ordered calamari (should have known that wasn't going to go well but we just wanted a bite to eat) and won't again. Actually I can't picture going in there again. Hope they get things organized or I fear it will not be there next summer.
