RATING BREAKDOWN Food: 4 | Service: 4 | Ambiance: 4 | Price: 4.5 PARKING Ample. LOCATION/AMBIANCE It's on the south side of town near the high school. This place looked nice on the outside and in. There was a variety of tables for different-sized groups. They had a few flatscreens and pleasant music playing. The alarm system was annoying alerting them every time someone came through the door, but I guess that's what helps them know when they have customers. THE GRUB It must've been the ground-to-sky flag flapping in the breeze outside with "tortas" on it that made me gravitate toward the Mexican sandwich ($7.99). Mine came with two small sides of salsa, a red and a green - neither of which I truly cared for because they were overly acidic and not spicy whatsoever. The guisada that I chose was delicious, however, the portion seemed small. The horchata was served in a huge cup & didn't disappoint at all. LITTLE YELPER'S CLUB There is a kid's menu with limited options. I posted a photo of it. SERVICE Kind of slow getting up to the front on 1/3/2024. Then I realized they thought I had a takeout order and they were rushing to bring out two large bags of food to me. Lol. The lady who took my order was friendly and efficient. MY FAVORITE PART... There are a few options for meat on the torta. I went with carne guisada which I couldn't recommend more. NOT SO FAVORITE PART... The salsas. TIP Alcohol is served here. Please have a designated driver.

Review #2,000!…read more OVERALL Taqueria Villa Nueva is a Mexican restaurant in Hobbs, NM that serves the best torta I've tried in the dusty small town. This is a great place for a family meal. RATING BREAKDOWN Food: 4.5 | Service: 5 | Ambiance: 4 | Price: 4 PARKING I parked near the front door but only because the place wasn't all that busy. I wish they would paint some parking lines or make it more clear where their drive-thru window begins and ends. Otherwise, it's not that far to walk with nearby street parking. LOCATION/AMBIANCE The dining room has a couple of beautiful murals inside. The buffet area was set up near the register and the kitchen. There were several different sizes of tables. They played a Spanish radio station in the background with good melodies, but way too many commercials at just before noon. THE GRUB As soon as I saw the opportunity for a torta de barbacoa ($9.99), I requested it. This Mexican sandwich was absolutely delicious. I wanted everything on it - meat, avocado, lettuce, tomato, & potatoes. This was an awesome portion for lunch. On the side was a batch of lukewarm shoestring fries which were not seasoned at all. I didn't eat many of them, so next time I will see if they will swap them fries for some arroz Mexicano! Lol. The nice lady asked me which salsa I wanted - "red or green?" I laughed and said both. She obliged. The red is definitely spicier than their green, but still I could not stop eating it. LITTLE YELPER'S CLUB No kid's menu available that I saw. There were high chairs/slings, though. SERVICE Welcoming & friendly! My takeout order was out in about 5 minutes. MY FAVORITE PART... The barbacoa! NOT SO FAVORITE PART... The fries! TIP Lunch buffet looked really good.

Burrito Beast is a delicious new Mexican grill in Hobbs, NM…read more They recently opened on February 4, 2026. This restaurant took over the old Mail Services building which I was sad to see go, but this is a very welcome restaurant in this small town indeed. Imagine a much more hip version of the chain Chipotle or the now closed down Freebirds World Burritos in Lubbock, TX. The set up is similar. Start on the left side when you walk in and just tell the crew what you want. Pay at the end of the line at the register before dining in or taking your order to-go. They have breakfast burritos, build your own burritos, bowls, salads, quesadillas, tacos, and "Beast Bags" which entais your choice of Doritos, Hot Cheetos, Tostitos, Takis, or Fritos. You can add your choice of meat, beans, queso, lettuce, pico, shredded cheese, salsa, and sour cream. Kids meals were available. A chicken taco was $9.99 and a chicken quesadilla - the same price. They include a drink. The inside is adorned with colorful murals of humanized burros... some folks might refer to them as donkeys. I really like Dante "Doc" Rios's work! (He's from Lovington!) Small and large tables for indoor dining only. There is a small parking lot on the south side of the building and a drive-through on the other. Restrooms were available. My burrito was a bit much for me so I have about half of it for leftovers. But my daughter's on the other hand, devoured their entire lunch on Valentine's Day, 2026. Our meal: + 1 Hot Cheetos w/Chile con Queso & Asada Steak Bag = $10.99 + 1 Hot Cheetos w/Chile con Queso & Chicken Bag = $9.99 + 1 Pork Asado Burrito (very tender & moist spicy asado, Mexican rice, black beans, green sauce, chopped mild green chile, cilantro, onions, and sour cream) = $12.99 + 3 Bottled strawberry Jarritos Drinks = $9.75 Just type in your mobile number to start earning rewards points. There was also complimentary chips and salsa served - at breakfast! I've never seen that before. The salsa was not spicy AT ALL. The green sauce on my plate had a mild kick. Our waitress was nice, but she didn't understand my boss wanted cold chocolate milk when he said "chocolate milk." She came back with hot cocoa and we all busted up laughing when she walked off. He has never liked hot drinks. Did I mention he's my brother too? It's a decent sized place inside. No frills. Kind of dirty. Small parking lot. Busy street nearby. Their current hours as of 6/28/2023 do not extend into supper time. I stopped in to get an order for takeout since I had more paperwork to finish up at work. The "huevos divorciados" ($13) turned out to be an amazing breakfast. It's just like the name implies - divorced eggs. "Two eggs, one with guisado and one with asado on top. Served with beans and potatoes." Your choice of two corn or flour tortillas. The flour tortillas were homemade. It took about 10 minutes for it to be prepped. I had one more errand to run before I got back to work, but it was still all piping hot at that point. I only wish that next time I get some salsa if possible to put on top of my beans and potatoes. Parking is a gravel lot. Tables and booths are both available for indoor seating. The space is adorned with some really cool metal signs and bright colored decor. The young lady who was serving everyone and working the register was super friendly. Plus she kept me apprised of my wait. Cash or cards are accepted.

I was on the verge of getting sicker and sicker by the minute on 11/16/2023…read more My heart was set on birria. The trusty Yelp app lead me to Vaquero Taquero Mucho which I had recently bookmarked. They offered $7.99 delivery through delivery.com which was available via Yelp. That delivery price next to a $2.95 service charge was steep, but I was desperate because I felt like absolute garbage and I rarely take medicine when I'm down. I like to sweat it out with spicy food, cold wet rags, Vicks VapoRub - & now that I'm older - a strong, delicous homemade hot toddy! When I pushed the order through I got a text message at 1:07 saying they were swamped and would be late. The app even said it would be delivered between 1:44-2:14PM. I'm a numbers gal so bear with me... I thought I had time for a nice long needed nap. Nope. I submitted the order at 12:44PM. A nice lady with a smile on her face rang my doorbell at 1:25PM. My order arrived perfect and packed neatly with no messes that I've experienced from other birria places (not in Hobbs because I know of only two others). The broth, also known as consomme broth de birria, was not quite as flavorful as I have had, yet, it was good. I ordered an extra cup ($2.69) because I love to drink that stuff when I've got sinus congestion. The shining star was the Mulitas de Birria ($14.19) with sliced limes and extra onions and cilantro on the side. All four mulitas were still amazingly piping hot - and their brick and mortar is clear on the other side of town! The tortillas still had a slight crispiness to them. They did not skimp on the meat. It was moutwatering good with the green salsa, but that red spicy salsa - that's where it's at. They threw in a few of the cutest, smallest tortilla chips I've every had. They were well-salted. I knew I wouldn't get enough salsa because I never do, so I ordered an extra cup of that red spicy salsa ($4.19). Also, I ordered two jalapeños toreados ($1.58) on the side. Can't wait to be 100% again so I can check out this place in the flesh. Of course I've driven by. It's small and looks kind of dive-ish with bright colors on the outside. My kind of Mexican restaurant.

*** good choice for some Baja-style Mexican food in southeastern New Mexico ***…read more When I have a lot on my mind, I drive to a new-to-me place and EAT. Baja Grill in Lovington, NM, was on my bookmarks for a long time. It was well worth the wait! At around 1:45 pm, I walked into a nearly empty restaurant. I was seated right away and served some very good red salsa and crispy, semi-thick homemade tortilla chips. I liked the variety of high-top and normal-height tables. I knew as soon as I saw "blackened tilapia" on the menu I had to have it. "Served on a bed of rice pila" ($12.99), it also came with my choice of two sides. The charro beans and fried okra were excellent! While my fish wasn't the freshest, the seasoning was really delicious. The outer edges were crispy, but inside the fish was flaky and moist. I also ordered a refreshing Sprite. Paid cash. Got just a little less than $4 back. Service was nice, but my waitress only checked on me after she realized I was ready to go. The food is fairly unique to Lea County. I can see why my employees like this place. I'm glad I had a lot on my mind that day... Really dumb parking lot, though. No painted lines so everyone just parks like idiots. And it's rather dull on the outside. Hard to easily recognize that it's a place that serves seafood.
