I wanted to give a roaring applause to this supermarket which was the only establishment where I could find a hot bowl of soup around 11:15 am this cold cloudy morning in central Bridgewater. Their chicken noodle soup is delicious and you can add Parmesan cheese shavings to make it extra tasty, and other toppings or sauces available in the buffet salad and hot food bars. The self-serve bars are very clean and you are provided with quality plastic silverware, soup crackers, napkins for a very reasonable price. Of course, it would be better if an in-store dining area was provided, but if you are careful about your food choices you can easily eat your lunch in your car or back at your job. Also, you can get a water bottle for about $0.79 which is almost half the cost of water bottles in nearby eateries. And their restrooms are also very clean. Not to mention there's plenty of parking space in the plaza, as opposed to attempting to obtain a parking space at the Central Square. read more

So I've actually been living in Bridgewater for 2 years now and the roche bro is literally right behind our house and that is the reason I go there (it's convenient when I've forgotten something at market basket - I can run to roche bro at the plaza and 5/10 I'll find it) ive heard about racism in this area but I've never experienced it until today so I didn't think much about it - I've never had a issue, except for prices, but when you have to eat you have to eat. This morning (3/19/2021 @730am) I ran in there to grab some bread but also ended up buying some stuff for my baby because he had a cold and runny nose and some personal items for me ( I think Walgreens opened at 8 and I had to be back before 8 as my husband was leaving for work) There was one register open, a older gentleman was in front of me at the register and he had a lot of groceries.. the line started building up, as a older woman came behind with a little over the amount of groceries I had - I was the only black woman in the store, a associate that was bagging named sandy asked the lady behind me " let me see what you have, oh that's not a lot, come over I'll ring you up" so she skipped me, like I was invisible or something and helped the lady with a little more item. I thought um ok maybe because the lady is older, she helped her first - cool I'll just wait. While waiting I noticed the service desk was open, so I walked over and asked the guy at the desk if he could help me since I didn't have any produce, he told me ok (keep in mind sandys register is by the service desk, she actually called the service desk to call for repair or something instead off backup but whatever) as I go back to grab my cart from the line and I'm walking back to the service desk, sandy asks a young lady that was second in her line with about 3 items to go to the service desk and get her items rung out . At this point , I'm just like am I invisible to this lady or what lol I don't get it . Prices are high at Roche Bros., but if you go in knowing that, you'll enjoy shopping here. The store is clean, the staff is friendly and helpful, to the point that unless you request otherwise, they will bring your groceries to your car and load it for you. Their specialty areas are the best of any supermarket I've seen - always an enticing selection of fresh produce, quality meats and seafood and an excellent bakery. If price is an issue, make the drive to Market Basket in Raynham. But if you don't mind spending a few extra dollars, the amenities at Roche Bros. make for a pleasant experience. read more

Location, location, location. While this saying may be used in the real estate world, it clearly applies to the arrangement of grocery stores throughout the Bridgewater area. While I do like Roche Bros for certain things, why in the world would ANYONE get any basic snacks, frozen food, or drinks from here if they are considerably cheaper at Market Basket, which is a mere ten minutes away. Like seriously! Sure, get produce, bakery items, meats, and seafood at Roche, but I still don't think that would be enough for it to stay. Prices are supreme (they seemed even higher than my local Roche in Westwood), and selection at this specific location is sort of bland. If you want high prices and a supreme variety of anything organic, go to Whole Foods. At Roche Bros, you'll just get overcharged on anything whether it's Cheez-It's or pepper. Seriously. To deepen my disappointment, my favorite ice cream, Ben&Jerry's Chocolate Fudge Brownie, was nowhere to be found in the frozen section (I even posted a picture!), and the men's bathroom was truly disgusting. Definite cleaning needed there (and signage.... I circled the store three times before finding it). For some reason, this Roche Bros just left me with a distasteful feeling, unlike some of the other locations I frequently shop. I wanted to give it a good rating, but cannot due to many factors. Would've been two stars, but the incredibly amazing Hammond's caramels at the registers bumped this review up to three. Alright grocery store but if you want decent deals hit up the Market Basket on West Center St. And for the record, Yelp is wrong. It's located at 233 Broad Street, NOT 20 Broad Street! read more

As usual, I begin this review with the disclaimer that I'm from Southern California, where all the produce is fresh and cheap and glorious, and all the supermarkets compete (really) to win your business by having brand identities, being exceptionally clean and generally not looking like the inside of a Walmart. I'm also pretty close to a scratch cook, so I rarely purchase anything that's ready to eat out of a box or carton, or anything that involves a microwave. Since moving to Massachusetts two years ago, I have been unable to tell you whither I am going to a Stop and Shop or a Shaws. I am unable to distinguish the two, as they smell the same (not great), look the same (florescent light and lime green accents), and essentially offer the same (not incredible) produce and finished goods at reasonably similar prices (not high, but far from the prices you see when food is actually grown locally). On my visits back to California, I have gone so far as to take video of the produce section of a good, mid-range cost supermarket, just so my friends here will understand how sad the supermarket experience is in New England. I have had numerous dreams about shopping at Ralph's in Universal City back in California, and it's entirely possible that I miss that part of my weekly routine more than about half of my friends back home. There's no Facebook to keep me in touch with the tomatoes I used to eat, after all, or the grass-fed beef I used to bring home for well under $10 per pound. Roche Brothers is the closest thing I have found to a good supermarket in New England. Prices are a little higher, and quality is not uniformly better. That said, I'm a quality Nazi. I also firmly believe that in a capitalist society, you vote with your dollars. If you don't like the world you live in, if you're concerned about things like antibiotic resistance and superbugs, or a few big conglomerate corporations having a stranglehold on our country, don't give companies who support those things or are those things your money. They don't deserve it, and in many cases, their competitors are producing better products anyways. Regardless of price, if it's crap, or past it's peak date, I buy it somewhere else. Case in point, that $1 bagel in the bakery section mentioned by another astute Yelper. I bought one $1 blueberry bagel, ate it for breakfast the next morning, and was totally unimpressed. I will never buy another. I've not bought anything from their meat department; most of what they carry is straight from the feedlot, with the exception of a few cuts of very expensive grass-fed beef in vacuum sealed packages. You can buy the exact same thing at slightly better prices at Shaws/Stop and Shop, or just eat less meat. Those vacuum sealed packaged cuts smell absolutely horrible at least half the time regardless, and don't inspire much confidence. If I really want the luxury of meat, I'll make the trip up to Whole Foods in Weymouth. Cheese here is 50-75% more expensive than at Trader Joes for the same quality- from cows not injected with growth hormone, real cheese, not the shredded stuff that they process with sawdust and other fillers. The cheap shredded stuff is about the same price that you'd find anywhere, as are other packaged essentials that find their way into a crazy cart like mine, including soy milk or baggies or bread. The difference in cost on most items is negligible, twenty cents here, fifty cents there, but if you shop the center aisles, where all the processed food is, I can imagine it would add up quickly. That said, I've actually found some decent produce here at better prices than the other markets I'll go to- WF, Shaws/Stop and Shop or Trader Joes. I got cherries here recently for $4.99 per pound when they were $6.99 at Shaws/Stop and Shop, or $3.99 for a half pound in a plastic box with two moldy ones on the bottom that you'd only see if you're super careful at Trader Joes. With the exception of some truly unfortunate stone fruits imported from my homeland, all the produce I've bought at Roche Bros has been a little fresher and a little better than the fare at Stop and Shop/Shaws, even at the same time of year. Last disclaimer, I went to that Market Basket in West Bridgewater once on a Saturday, and it was so horrific inside that I will never go back. I walked the produce section in my dash through the store, and between the smell and the number of people in that place, all I could think of was the Superdome after Hurricane Katrina. No thanks! That said, Roche Brothers will be solidly in my rotation, as one of three or so places to pick up essentials as needed. I would not do a big weekly shopping trip here, as that's generally a bad idea anywhere if what you're hoping to have is a good meal every night of the week! Do three little shops and you'll always have something fresh to cook. You'll also know where to buy what to get a good price, and you'll see that not every store carries every item. read more

All around great experience at Roache Bros. I've been going there for over 15 years, from getting a piece of cheese as a kid, or a cookie. Roache has always been there. The only reason I give them 4 stars is because of their prices. Prices are higher than average, but their "home-cooked" meals are top-notch. Roche Bros. is the best (only) supermarket in Bridgewater. They put a lot of money into it, and completed a remodel in the last year or two. I like the lay out. It works well if you're filling up a cart, or just picking up a couple of items. The service here ranges from high school and college kids, up to part time retired folks in the front end. Everyone is helpful, and they'll bring your groceries out to your car. The only draw back to Roche Brothers is their prices. They are a little more money than Stop and Shop and Shaws, but you do get what you pay for. As an added bonus they have beer and wine, and a pretty good selection at that! I gave them an extra star for being the only market in the area that carries the Arm and Hammer deodorant that I use. read more

Roche Bros. was my local grocer when I struck out on my own. Walking distance from my apartment, clean, bright, with everything you could imagine, I am a huge fan. I got on first name terms with one of the cashiers that was always there when I went in for my mid-week wine run. While a little unsure if I should be ashamed that I'm recognized for buying alcohol so often, it was nice to meet a bit of friendliness in an unexpected place. I have to knock off a star for being pricier then pretty much every other grocery store, unfortunately. read more

I like this Roche Brothers because the store has a good selection of items, I've never had a problem with being overcharged at the cash register, and I like it that they take the items out of the shopping cart so all I have to do is stand there and play lazy. I came into this store 4 days ago to order a cake for tomorrow. I told the lady what I wanted written on the cake. (Which included a swear, but it's for a big shot in the music business so it would be funny). The lady who took my order those days ago said she wasn't sure if she could write that. So I adjusted my order to not include a letter and I can fill it in myself. TODAY... THE DAY BEFORE THE PARTY I AM SUPPOSED TO BRING THIS CAKE TO, I went in to drop off my picture and ask a couple of questions...the rude woman in the bakery said "yea, so my managa wont let me put this on that." YOU DIDN"T CALL ME? You couldn't have been polite about it? You TOOK MY ORDER ON TUESDAY! You couldn't just leave the whole word off? I need to be worried about placing an order in this gross bakery AND being censored?!? This store is an absolute JOKE! I should have known better. It is dirty, smells bad, the staff is rude and frankly, as an adult, if I tell you to leave a word off my order your response should be "ok" and continue to make what I am paying for. To NOT call your customer, whose phone number you asked for when ordering, to say you are unwilling to make my cake is just unacceptable. I WILL NEVER VISIT THIS STORE AGAIN. read more

I can't tell you how many times the staff have gone out of their way to find a product for me... from the meat department, produce department, prepared foods, and the floral department to name a few. I highly recommend avoiding this grocery store at all costs. I live only a few minutes from this store, and when I first moved here years ago, it was where I did all my grocery shopping. Then it became where I went when I needed to make a quick stop for a few things. Now, I will never shop there again. Why? Because they consistently sell expired and rotten things. You will need to check every single item you pick up because I typically find multiple expired items every time I go there. Also, do yourself a favor, and avoid the produce section all together. Your fruit will be bad within one day, two tops. Less than a week ago, I bought a bag of potatoes and today it's totally liquefied. We've also had rancid, expired meat from them, (as in, as of the day of purchase). It's just such a horrible store. And, just six minutes up the street, you have Trucchi's in West Bridgewater, which is a great store, with better prices, and they seem to have more of what I'm looking for. Or, eight minutes away is Market Basket, with the best prices of all, and a much better array of things. Both Trucchi's and Market Basket have never failed me as far as maintaining clean stores with fresh produce and non-expired food. Go the extra few minutes to a store that cares, and let's all hope Roche Bros Bridgewater will shape up or ship out! read more
