Seems to me that if I still had 35 minutes left of my shift, I would still offer the same customer service as you do throughout the mornings, and afternoons. I will not be recommending this business establishment to anyone. I felt it was rude, and the employee was just being lazy. I didn't get her name, but she was middle aged, kind of slender, and had short, purple hair. Ya'll need to get your priorities straight. I am a coffee connoisseur, and I was looking forward to trying out the Boxcar Coffee. I think from now on, it's a HARD PASS! I am very disappointed.

I enjoyed the bites of pistachio topping. I did not try a pastry today but they all looked delicious. There was only one barista at 830am so it took a while to get my coffee. If you're in a rush this might not be a place you'd want to stop by on the way to work. But if you have time, it's worth the wait. I gave it 4 stars because the floor was very sticky when I visited. Not sure if someone spilled something or if it wasn't cleaned, but a couple of other patrons noticed the stickiness also.

The matcha I had from there wasn't particularly my favorite but they used to keep their espresso machine up at night during the performance, I'm not completely sure if I remember correctly if they sold liquor or alcohol but the drink that I did have from there the first time I went was pretty good. The ambiance is pretty normal for greensboro, I feel like almost every establishment you walk in, there will be cracked floors but I just remember the staff was pretty awesome and as far as pastries, they had a pretty good variety and gluten free options and other food sensitivity options. I had no idea about their mission, and I had no idea about the experience I was about to have. The kindness and the skill that the employees here brought to their jobs is worth both notice and appreciation. The quality of the coffee is great, and the atmosphere is like a family reunion. Walking in from outside almost had a calming effect. Kudos to whoever was in charge of the ambiance. I kept it simple and got an iced Oatmilk latte with honey and vanilla. A little sweeter than I normally do but still great flavor. It's nice and light too. Some Oatmilk lattes can be in the heavy side, this wasn't. The staff was awesome. Someone opened the door for us. But today was the day! As soon as you show up, you know this isn't your typical coffee shop. The outside of the place looks like it could be an Inn in the neighborhood (which who knows maybe it was at one point.) The vibe inside gives off quiet workspace/library, and definitely gives off the lobby of an Inn (think Gilmore Girls.) There was some people scattered around but I didn't take a deep look inside since I was just passing by. I ordered my ice vanilla latte. The first thing I remember realizing was that it wasn't very sweet. Which is not a bad thing, sometimes they can be made really sweet other times they can be not so sweet. This latte was in the middle. I could taste the creaminess from the oat milk too. I would definitely check this place out again and try out some of their other drinks that they offer. I would even like to stay in and work inside and see more of the environment inside.

But, I do need to advise anyone who is unwaveringly accustomed to the Italian and Portuguese bakeries of New England (at least in the 1980s), and similar places, the pastries here aren't quite at that level. The pastries I tried were a little dense and shriveled, with a slight sour taste (which could've also been due to some uneven baking, erring on the overbaked side). In an apple filled item, the small amount of apples weren't quite soft and sweet enough, as well. Overall, the pastries were nearer to those of a very talented home baker than the polished work of a traditional professional pastry shop. Of course, for this specific region, this will be an enjoyable stop. With that in mind, I'm not surprised there are long lines; it must be very exciting to encounter a shop like this for the first time. There are very few other bakeries making pastries of this type, much less good ones. It's very, very hard to make excellent pastries. But, if you come from a land rich with bakeries, just set your expectations appropriately. Plus, there is the critical difference between New England and North Carolina bakeries: Would you rather have pastries that are sensational from sullen and unpredictably snappish people? ...or pastries that are decent and charming from laid-back and friendly people?
