Came in around 6pm. Everyone else had their food brought to them. Ordered a bucket with mich/bud, they came out with two buckets. Waited 35 minutes to get a bucket. Then put in appetizers, waited another 45 minutes for bosco stix. Came out completely cold. Server was super nice, and very sweet. My husband and I are Evansville Natives, so when we heard that the original Roca Bar had undergone a "facelift", as well as new owners - we were curious and couldn't wait to give it a try... we were NOT disappointed!! We decided to do carry-out, and ordered about 30min ahead of time... When we arrived to pick it up, it was hot, fresh and ready to go!! My husband ran inside to pick up our order, and said he couldn't believe the renovations!! It was a slightly long drive home, as it smelled SO good LoL We decided to try just a simple pepperoni pizza (as we have kids) and they mentioned they had new wings available, so we ordered some BBQ wings, as well. The pizza was awesome, it had a crispy cracker crust and plenty of pepperoni under a thick layer of gooey, delicious cheese - I must admit, they even nailed the sauce!! BOTH sauces actually, the pizza sauce was delicious and the sauce on the wings was devine!! Surprisingly, they were the best wings we've had in town in quite sometime!! We will DEFINITELY be back soon and look forward to trying more of their also newly renovated menu!! read more

This place has pizza and salads and is not your average place. It is of local origin and it is a nice little tavern/bar or a dive restaurant depending on where you dine in the building. I was passing through town and got a fine salad and added some grilled chicken. The take-out was perfect. The next time through town I will make it a point to try the pizza. Nov. 2016 visit The Roca Bar is good if you're looking for standard pizza styles and domestic beer. However, they need to embrace the craft beer surge that has swept across the country. Only one craft beer is offered (Two Hearted). Evansville has two good craft brewers in town, but the Roca Bar doesn't offer any of their beer. Additionally, if you order a draft beer, it will be served in a 10oz glass. Be aware you're not getting 16oz or even 12oz. I had the chicken quesadilla pizza. It was ok, but very bland. It needs some type of sauce like, taco sauce, or maybe some Mexican seasoning, or maybe some jalapenos. read more

Food was great! Service was AWFUL. We had a male waiter who was extremely rude from start to finish. For example, I went with a group 6 and instead of asking how it would be split he put everything on one ticket and when we asked for him to split it he just said "you can do it with your phone". A friend of mine and I were coming back to town and she said that she wanted a steak from roca bar. She tried to call in the order, but, was rudely told by the bartender that they don't have steaks to go. So, we drove there, sat down and waited 10 minutes for the waitress to come by the table. I finally had to go find her. My friend ordered the steak and told the waitress that she wanted it in a to go box. The waitress told her that they don't have steaks to go. My friend said that she wanted the steak anyway. Thirty minutes later I asked the waitress if the steak was done. She rudely snapped, "I don't know!" and made no effort to see if it was done. I finally asked, "Do I need to go back there to find out myself?" Silence. Ten minutes later the steak was delivered... on a plate. My friend immediately asked for a to go box. The bartender and the waitress were both very rude and very bad at their jobs. That was my first time I had been there and it will be the last time I go there. read more

Roca Bar is located on the south side of town in what by some would consider a "bad" area, those looking for a diamond in the rough will be disappointed as the interior is as shabby as the outside. It would be wonderful if the before mentioned shabbiness was restricted to the decoration and structure but alas this was not my experience. The service was poor bordering on rude and the customer base of ageing boomers* made me feel like I had stumbled onto some sort of hideaway where outsiders are not welcome. The pizza (when it finally came) was not bad, it was better than many chain pizzas BUT it was not better than any of the other independent pizza places here in town. Considering that some other options also have their own microbrews as well I can pretty much write off returning to Roca Bar. I guess If you like poor service and pitiful beer selection with your pizza you should check it out. *NOTE: I'm not trying to slam on a generation of people, I just wanted to point out that most of the people that I know that eat at Roca or were actually there when I have eaten at Roca were all over the age of 50 and seemed to be wanting to relive the faded glory days River City and merely eat at this place out of nostalgia. read more

Don't let the location or the building deter you, Roca Bar serves some of the best pizza in the area! First of all, the restaurant and the decor are nothing special, I don't think much has changed in the past 20 or so years I've been eating here. Start off your meal with their Italian Salad, it is amazing. A small can feed several people-the bowl comes filled with lettuce, pepperoni, ham, cheese, egg, green olives, etc. and is drenched in their house dressing. My favorite salad anywhere by far! The pizza is great too, the crust is super thin and very crispy, and they load it up with toppings. It can get pretty busy on the weekends, so you may want to make a reservation. read more

I'm hoping this was just a bad night for this place, but on Tue 4/23 service was horrible and food was so-so. Our appetizer took about 25 minutes and they brought the salad for another person. This person was done with her salad and we waited at least another 30 minutes for 2 ham and cheese sandwiches. We were told several times the printer was down! Can you just let the cook know to make 2 ham and cheese? Guess not. The ham was barely Luke warm but we didn't dare send it back. We kept waiting for our checks and were told the system is down and it will be awhile. After another 10 minutes we told another worker they needed to have our waiter bring the bill or the manager! Someone comes to our table and said sorry the system is down and it would be a few more minutes. We told them we have already been here 2 hours and had to pick someone up from the airport so we needed to pay immediately and leave. Another person came over and apologized and said come back next time and I will take care of you. Then walked away not leaving his name or anything. Suddenly right afterward our bill was brought to us. We needed separate checks but the waiter told us he put it all together! We figured it out and left. Probably will be a long time before we try this place out again, if ever. read more

Good for Evansville? This is great pizza for almost anywhere! Super tasty salad and buffet style selection of several pizzas for our wedding party to try. I was thoroughly impressed and would recommend to anyone visiting. Maybe not a lot of yelpers in the area to help promote this place for out of towners who can easily cab it from downtown. The bar was a throwback to the "Good-Time" places of my early years. The staff was a delight. Tammy the Server and Casey the Bartender were both excellent. The Italian Salad was full of flavor and fantastic quality. The Pizza was crisp, hot, and full of outstanding ingredients. Absolutely will go there again when I travel to Evansville for business. I routinely travel 50 miles to Evansville on weekends to dine, as they have the best food in the area; this place is no exception. They specialize in pizza and salads, and they never disappoint! I'm particularly parcel to the salad, which is quite possibly the best I've ever had. If you like thin-crust pizza, good Italian salad, and a really great atmosphere, this is your place. There is more than one location in Evansville, but I favor the Kentucky Avenue location. Parking space is sometimes at a premium however, and at times, you may have to park off-site. Best pizza in Evansville is here. Those who came here for something else like wings or craft beers then left negative comments need to save it. This is no wing joint or hipster craft beer microbrewery. Go somewhere else for that junk. If you want damn good pizza and aren't too stuffy to choke down a Miller Highlife (which goes great with pizza. Better than any IPA) then you'll leave very happy and looking forward to your next visit. I honestly haven't tried anything else on the menu other than their Italian salad with house made Italian dressing and it too rocks. I recently traveled to Evansville, Indiana and stopped in at the infamous Roca Bar for pizza. (I hadn't been there since I was 16 years old, (1982). One of the things that made this visit so special was that the pizza was still phenomenal after all these years! Am I partial? Maybe. My paternal grandfather, (Earl Carter), opened the Roca Bar in 1943 when my father was just 3 weeks old. He opened it with a friend, (Mr. Rogers) and they came up with the name "ROCA" by combining the first two letters of each of their last names--- RO for Rogers and CA for Carter. My grandfather bought the recipe from a very successful pizzeria in Chicago for, (are you ready for this?) $5,000.00! Not five hundred----but five THOUSAND dollars! (In 1943, that was a LOT of money!) My grandfather knew in his heart that the recipe was a real winner and since no one else made pizza in the state of Indiana at the time, he felt it would be a real hit! He and Mr. Rogers gambled on a chance that paid off for them and for thin-crust pizza lovers in the Evansville area. When I walked in this past September, I told the lady who was seating us that my grandfather was one of the original owners of the restaurant and she immediately asked, "Mr. Carter or Mr. Rogers?" I was so impressed that she knew their names. After seating us, she went to the office and returned with an old black and white photo of the inside of the restaurant taken back in the 1940's. Very cool! The staff was friendly and I think I can say with all honesty, (and not just because it was once my Grandfather's place), but that it truly is still the best pizza I've ever eaten! I can't believe "The Rock" only has one review! A gastronomic landmark in E'ville that still has a bit of the 1960's ambiance. They have a very tasty, big house salad that sets the stage for an incredible pizza and prices that make you look twice to see if it's maybe just a half order... Everybody has a different 'favorite' pizza, and this may not be yours especially if you like thick crust! The Rock specializes in CRISPY thin. Went in Tues. for their 35 cent wings special and ordered a dozen. The place is old (since 1943) traditional bar & lounge, but clean. 1 server ran the room and kept up well, timely with food and refills. The problem was with the food. This place is renown for it's food; it introduced pizza the the city. Authentic pizza and marinara sauce. But the wings... if these weren't frozen wings from a bin at Wal-Mart then they have "mastered" that recipe. They were heated, not deep fried and were soft. No sauce on them just the coated breading with flavor. Came with ranch, 3 celery and no carrot sticks. My intention was to find a place to eat wings while watching football; this place fails, sadly. They need to treat wings SERIOUSLY. Ask if you want breaded or bare, level of heat then deep fry for perfect wings. Make me want to come back!
