Students build skills that will use the rest of their lives, developing important friendships along the way as they learn and create. While we enjoyed the work and performances of all 17 specialties, the Popular Music and Culinary Arts conservatories were especially close to our hearts. We attended performances for music, dance and theater, thoroughly enjoyed the "Throw Down" in the Culinary and Hospitality Conservatory and bid on a number of art works during our time there. When we inquired about enrollment, the teacher specifically told us it was too early to enroll but that the time slot we wanted was available. We were instructed to wait until closer to June and were assured someone from the studio would contact us to finalize enrollment. Since no one ever reached out, I called the office on May 27th to get her enrolled. To my dismay, I was informed that the class was completely full. It was a big surprise, especially since we learned there had been a family on a waitlist for that same spot since April, a detail that was never communicated to us during our May visit.

Choosing Laguna College of Art + Design was truly life-changing and remains one of the best…read moredecisions I've ever made. For a long time, I wasn't even sure if a creative career was feasible, let alone if I could support myself doing it. LCAD proved that it's not only possible but sustainable. One of the biggest draws for me was that LCAD is one of the most affordable accredited art and design schools in California. I never felt like I was sacrificing quality for cost. The education I received in the Design program was easily on par with competitors like Art Center, but with a much smaller price tag and a far more intimate environment. The industry connections here were so exciting to me. While I was still a student, I had the opportunity to work on projects with powerhouse brands like: Nike, Vans, Hurley, and the Anaheim Ducks. These aren't just names on a syllabus; they are real-world partnerships that prepare you for the workforce. When I graduated and entered the industry, I felt completely prepared because the classes were incredibly rigorous. People might think a school in a beautiful beach town is the "easy" choice, but I have never worked harder in my life. What really sets LCAD apart is the faculty. They don't just know your name; they care about your life. I saw this firsthand when a friend in the program was in a bad car accident. The Department Chair personally helped her navigate legal issues and created a custom plan so she wouldn't fall behind due to transportation hurdles. Years after graduating, I am still on texting terms with many of my professors. They are always ready to provide industry leads or advice. The location in Laguna Beach is stunning. Being able to slow down and enjoy the nature of the canyon provided a necessary balance to the high-intensity coursework. Not to mention the beauty and calm allowed for a constant source of inspiration for me. I left LCAD with a sharpened skillset, a career I love, and a group of best friends who are now my peers in the industry. If you are looking for a supportive, high-caliber, and industry-connected experience, this is it. I wouldn't change my time here for anything.

I'm attending LA Art League because I was basically new to art when I started and I wanted to build…read morea portfolio so I could apply to art colleges. I've been with them for two months now and I've taken their traditional Drawing class, their Digital Art class, and also their Life Drawing class. I've learned so many fundamental concepts such as the rhythm of a line, drawing through my shoulder, and I'm currently drilling proportions for the human body. The teachers provide very personal attention and feedback that is both honest and encouraging. In the Digital Art class, alumni from art colleges teach students to draw and design on Photoshop and Illustrator while guiding them through their portfolios. The teachers also do demonstrations which are so incredibly helpful for me. I feel like I learn so much from seeing them compose a landscape or render a human head. Coming from essentially zero background in the arts, I've improved my drawing skills quite a bit and learned so much about what is required to apply for art colleges. The one and only downside to attending LA Art League is the parking. There is plenty of 2-Hour street parking available nearby, however, so I've gotten used to that.
