Although I feel I've had quality care, this office is out of control when it comes to "pressure to Up Sell their services" been going here for over 18 months and it just cost more and more each time as they make you feel you have major issues that need attention. Frankly I no longer trust them! Going to get another opinion as with as much money as I've spent to keep things healthy, the cost shouldn't be more over time but less if their in fact improving your overall dental health. Your priorities seem to be profits over the actual patient need and their ability to afford the care even with insurance. Shameful!!! I'm over this place! I feel it's important to share my family's experience with Robinson Dental in Wayland and explain why we ultimately decided to leave their practice. Before choosing this office, I encourage anyone considering Robinson Dental to read reviews for all of their locations. You'll notice recurring concerns from patients regarding communication, patient treatment, billing issues, and a lack of accountability when problems arise. Unfortunately, our experience reflected many of those same concerns. After a very patience and long few years, we have decided it's time to find a dental practice that values its patients. The biggest issue throughout treatment was communication. During appointments, Dr. Young often made appointments feel rushed, concerns were frequently brushed aside, and conversations often came across as dismissive or accusatory instead of informative. There were multiple occasions where treatment instructions changed without explanation. My Partner was repeatedly told to switch Invisalign trays after one week, only to arrive at a later appointment and be criticized for not wearing them for two weeks. Other times, the opposite happened. Rather than acknowledging that the instructions had changed, she was made to feel as though she had done something wrong. Before a planned vacation, she specifically asked if she could wear one set of trays an extra week while she was out of state. Doctor Young approved the request. However, when she returned, she was reprimanded for being behind in her treatment because he had forgotten approving the extension. Treatment was paused during my partner's pregnancy because complications made it impossible to wear the trays without becoming nauseous. This was discussed and approved. Within two weeks of giving birth, she scheduled an appointment and completed a rescan so treatment could continue. Even though returning at her earliest convenience after recovering from giving birth she was criticized for not returning sooner by Dr. Young. In addition we were told the replacement trays were urgent, yet they took approximately a month to arrive at the office. We only found out they had arrived because we called to check ourselves. Even after they arrived, the fitting appointment was scheduled weeks later despite previously being described as urgent. Similar delays happened more than once throughout treatment. There were occasions where tooth attachments fell off and were reported to Dr. Young. We were told everything would be fine and no action was necessary. Later, when the trays again failed to track correctly, additional rescans became necessary. The billing process was equally frustrating. We were repeatedly told the account balance was up to date and that everything was "good." When our insurance temporarily stopped paying the estimated amount, we were instructed not to make payments while the office waited for the insurance company. At a later appointment, we were unexpectedly told there was now a late fee because the balance had not been paid--even though we had followed the office's instructions. Scheduling problems became another recurring issue. On one occasion, we confirmed a Tuesday appointment the previous Thursday, only to arrive and discover it had been canceled without any notification. Rather than attempting to correct the mistake or fit us into the schedule, the office simply offered another appointment over a month later. There were also multiple occasions where appointments were booked before leaving the office, only for us to arrive later and be told no appointment had actually been entered into the system. Again, there was little effort to accommodate us that day despite the error originating from the office. Everyone can have an occasional bad day or make a mistake. But repeated pattern mishaps over the course of treatment and after investing significant time and money into treatment, we no longer had confidence that Robinson Dental is a good place to be. read more

I was a long term client and one day i was sick with a fever due to my HIV infection I called to cancel my appointment and I was told that they were charging me a $50.00 cancellation fee and that I cannot return until this is paid. The problem is the the crown they did 6 months prior is causing me so much pain ai can even stand it and I cant get an appointment anywhere in Kalamazoo because i guess there is a dentist shortage so I live in pain everyday. read more

I wouldn't send anyone to this dental practice. I came in with acute, extreme pain in a molar. I was given an exam and told to wait the pain out but pressured to schedule expensive, unrelated dental work. It took 6 weeks (of me being in debilitating pain) and a second opinion from an endodontist to finally convince them to treat the molar in question. In that time, I brought my children in for cleanings and not only did they have my children in rooms large distances apart, but they examined and "diagnosed" my kids without speaking to me one time. I never met the dentist my kids saw. I'd rather pay out of pocket at a different office my insurance doesn't cover than ever step foot back in this facility. read more

Overcharged for work that we did not authorize on all 3 of my kids. Insurance covers 3 x-rays with a standard cleaning/check up, Robinson Dental decided to do 5 x-rays (per child) did not ask for or provide any reason for the extra work done, and expected me to pay the difference. Nobody had any cavities or any reason for additional x-rays to be done. Avoid unless you're ok with being blindsided with bills for unnecessary work done beyond standard cleaning/checkups, without any kind of prior authorization. read more

Called two weeks ago and discussed a CLEANING. Key word there is CLEANING. They said okay, sent us paperwork, and we filled everything out. Went to the appointment where they just took x-rays and then sat me in an office to talk about treatment options. They then checked me out and told me to have a good day. Went for a Zoom whitening and it was a HORRIBLE experience! Technician placed mouth piece in incorrectly which resulted in a severe burn on my lower lip -- resulted in a trip back, paying for antibiotics, and mouth swollen with huge sores for a month! Letter sent to owner explaining my experience was not acknowledged. Hoping for at least a partial refund -- nothing at all. Not going back and not recommending to others! Called 9 dentists in my area, not one would agree to help me for another two months. we have been going to Robinson Dental for years and have been pleased. I wasn't until my son needed braces and we met with the orthodontist. they told me they checked with my insurance provider and no coverage was available for orthodontics. I felt that was strange, so I asked if that was only at their office, or no ortho coverage anywhere. she said they explained I had absolutely no ortho coverage no matter who we chose for braces. I then felt intense pressure from the hygienist and billing lady to put money down and schedule the next visit to get things started. I wanted to run it by my husband since it was $5800 out of pocket for this. I ended up calling my insurance provider and they explained that I do have coverage for orthodontists, and it is 50%. insurance told me that it is that coverage no matter where we go. so, Robinson Dental lost my familys business. read more

I 100% believe these people are scam artists. DO NOT GO HERE. Call them in the morning and they'll SCAM you today. They make you feel like they are doing right by you and are super nice to you so you don't notice. When you walk in they will pick something you are wearing or that you have on and compliment it even though they don't really like it. They do this EVERYTIME. Of course it makes you feel good- but watch them. It's actually so fake. It seems so nice because you call them and they are able to get you in today. After your first visit you will leave and feel like you just had a great visit. You will be lulled into a false sense of happiness. You will think this was a great dental experience. And then something will shift.... They will then give you a cost you will sign the papers and pay and then they will bill you for some other expense a couple weeks later and just expect you to roll over and pay it. EVERYTIME. My family (no dental insurance) has had 3 experiences with them: 1. My son has a broken tooth. I googled emergency dentists and of course this came up. I took my son they were so nice. Told him they loved his shoes. Etc. Gave him a warm blanket. I signed a paper stating the total and then paid in full before the procedure. Then 2 weeks later I got a bill for some special thing that I was unaware of. I thought this was weird but paid it anyways because I thought it must of been an oversight. 2. I had an emergency dental situation and went there. The bill was a bit higher than I was expecting. I was in so much pain and so emotional that I actually started to cry. They office lady told me each month they get 100 dollars to give towards someone's care. And offered it to me. I thought that was super kind. I told them I CANNOT pay anymore then what I agreed to and paid up front. Then in a couple weeks they hit me with a bill for some special x-ray that they determined I had to have or something. So the "100 dollar gift" was pretty much null and void. I was really annoyed this time. 3. THEN my husband has a dental emergency...(before we discovered other places that take same day appointments) I warn him that if he goes there he has to be super clear about needing to pay the cost up front. They assure him its the total cost and then boom 2 weeks later we get hit with a bill. We felt so stupid after this experience. When really we weren't doing anything wrong but trusting people. It's so crazy that these people are able to get away with this. Someone should have their dental licenses revoked. They pretend to be so nice and welcoming. It's all a front. I called on 11/08/2023 to get an emergency appointment because I have a broken infected molar. They weren't able to get me in until 11/10/2023. The pain in the tooth was unbearable. Doctor Scott was my dentist that day. After pleading with him to work on it that day which took some time he agreed. Afterwards he said I would be in pain after the anesthesia wore off. Doctor Scott said they would give me some antibiotics and pain medication. When I picked up the medicine only the antibiotic was called in. 12 hours later my mouth is throbbing and no pain medication. Robinson Dental Centers cares is the slogan to get you in the door. Robinson Dental said I had to pay $127 for dental x-rays today because it wasn't covered by my Medicaid plan. I had to leave before being seen because I can't afford that. I just looked up my coverage, and I have $0 additional costs. It's the same insurance that U of M Dental School bills, and I've never had out of pocket expenses there. I even called Robinson before making an appointment to make sure they would accept my Medicaid plan and they said they looked it up and I was covered. I am a relatively new patient at Robinson Dental, having approx 4 visits (for cleaning, exam, x-rays) over the course of two years. My previous dentist was excellent, but we decided he was too far away (in GR). We were looking for a closer dentist that would accept Delta Dental insurance. Oddly enough, certain dentists at Robinson will accept our plan, and others will not! This, of course, is very confusing to the consumer. Since Robinson knew what our Delta plan was, they clearly should have assigned us to a dentist within their office that would accept our plan. They did not. We had to then argue/fight over the excessive bill that they presented! We won, in the end, but it was not a "good sign". As far as the dental care goes: it was "adequate", but not great. My PREVIOUS dentist was very thorough in his exam, after the dental hygienist did a very thorough teeth cleaning and gum exam (I don't know what they call it: when they prick your gums at each tooth). My PREVIOUS dentist would examine the X-rays, then examine my teeth thoroughly (took about 5-8 minutes), maybe tell me that there might be something to keep watch on, maybe recommend another x-ray, etc. This contrasts greatly with my exam experience at Robinson. The teeth cleaning by the hygienist at Robinson was nowhere near as thorough (plaque removal, gum testing, etc.) I still presume that it was adequate, so I am not saying that the cleaning was poor. But, it definitely is not on par with my previous dentist. The exam by the actual dentist at Robinson was definitely just cursory. The "exam" would last about 30 seconds! "Everything looks good". Why was my previous dentist doing so much more? It apparently boils down to "money" at this office. You definitely do not get as thorough an exam here as you will at other dental offices. It's probably "OK", but you can do better. Money seems to be the big driver at this office -- something that I have never experienced at any other dentist (or doctor). The dentists tried 2x (out of my 4 visits) to "up-sell me" on something! First, the dentist tried to convince me to get some teeth-straightening (Invisalign, I think). [ I'm 70 yrs old, teeth are straight, but there is a slight crowding in one area -- not really noticeable, and never a problem. Dentist claimed that this might be an issue in "the future". Right.] Second, the dentist tried to convince me to buy a teeth guard for wearing at night-- just in case. Since I do not have any teeth grinding problem, and do not have any issues with my one tooth implant, this just seemed preposterous. It was an obvious money-maker for the office if I would spend the hundreds of dollars for this fitted mouth guard. No thank you. Now for my latest, and last, insult from this provider: My Delta Dental coverage had been provided through my wife's employer. When we divorced, the coverage supposedly went away -- though, I was never actually informed of losing the coverage. So, in preparation for the possibility of losing my dental coverage, I contacted Robinson and spoke to the insurance coordinator ("Julie", I think). I asked which dental plans they accept, and I asked how much would my routine dental care cost me without insurance. After she added up the various costs for the normal routine care, she told me it would cost me $485/yr (w/o cancer screening -- which I declined). This would include: 2 exams, 2 cleanings, X-rays, etc. She also told me that Robinson offers their own "plan": $497/yr (direct through Robinson, paid in advance, I think). This would include all the routine care. I also investigated many dental plans: Humana, Spirit, Ameritus, Delta, Cigna, etc. But, Robinson is not a participant in any of these plans unless it is the most expensive plan available. Most any plan will be $20-$40 per month (but can be much more), and you will have to pay some co-pays. So, insurance will generally cost about $250-$400 per yr, plus your (maybe) 20% copay. I also called several dentist offices, to get their costs for yearly care WITHOUT INSURANCE. Generally, without insurance, and assuming just routine cleaning and checkup: dentists will charge about $380 - $450 PER YEAR. It is probably not worth paying for dental insurance if you do not anticipate any major dental issues. This opinion is also what all the dental offices advised, not just my opinion. So, when I showed up for my scheduled routine exam and cleaning at Robinson, anticipating that my Delta Dental insurance had lapsed (though I was not positive about that), they checked on my available insurance. Yes, apparently it had lapsed. Therefor, I would have to pay $550 (in advance) for today's visit!!!! The office had previously quoted me $485 FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR, with two office visits included! I obviously was aghast, and declined. Then, to top it off, they wanted to charge me a "cancellation fee" of $50! No- that is not happening. In conclusion: stay far away from this dental practice. I went into Robinson Dental for a check up and X-rays. I was told it would cost me $46 for the oral cancer screening only. A week later I got a bill for services that are covered by my BOTH Medicaid and Medicare for $246. Then this morning, my husband attempted to cancel an appointment due to having covid and they wouldn't let him. They specifically told him the doctors time was more important than our family. The office staff is incredibly rude and I had to yell at her before she would stop talking over the top of me. I've reported them to the health department as well. read more

So I decided to get a second opinion and sure enough I only have one cavity, which was repaired with no further issues. That was a year ago. I went in and they gave me a crown on a molder. Well it had an infection so i had to go to a specialist to have a root canal. It has never been right. Then they gave me a root canal on a front tooth. When Doctor Scott Robinson came in after the cleaning to examine my teeth he firmly said that I needed a crown. I was having no problems with this particular tooth. I sought a second opinion from my former dentist of 35 years in another city. My former dentist checked my teeth throughly and said they were all fine and I did NOT need any dental work, especially an (expensive) crown. I have been in pain for 3 month! went to Robinson for a crown and after they put my crown then the pain set in went back several times nothing was ever fixed. they set out to say that I just need to take the tooth out. got a second opinion and the X-ray revealed my crown was not sitting on my tooth correctly. before I could get it re done at my new dentist I had to get a refund from Robinson for insurance purpose! they billed me almost $800 for my boyfriends bill instead of mine and said I could not get a refund !! I needed an extraction during the 'stay at home order' in May of 2020. The staff is incredible nice and caring. The Dental Hygienist was friendly, efficient, and super helpful. The Dentist (female) was professional, attentive, and patient. It required quite a bit of numbing and I was anxious but they helped me the best they could. I would highly recommend this Dental Practice. It is a large, spacious, and immaculately clean. They got me in on the day I called (just before order and extraction was right after the order came from the governor). They were appropriately cautious due to COVID-19 from the very beginning. It went smoothly and I felt comfortable with how they tried to minimize the risk of exposure. read more

I am new to the area and rather than finding a new dentist, I decided to travel back to the Ann Arbor area for my dental care. That is until I lost a crown. Robinson Dental in Wayland told me they could reset my crown the following day. While the dentist was great, and my crown is set without difficulty, I cannot give this practice a good review. Again, I did not experience any problems with skill, cleanliness, comfort, etc. However, I walked out of there feeling like I was definitely taken advantage of. Suddenly I needed two different sets of X-rays, digital prints, a cancer screen, and a periodontal exam. I asked why I could not have my most recent (December 2021) records and X-rays sent. Oh NO, they need their own. I have no idea how much they billed my insurance, but I am willing to bet I have used up more of my annual allowance than necessary. The dental assistant talked endlessly. Then the billing specialist gave me an insurance estimate, and out of pocket cost of the care plan they decided for me. I guess they plan on me returning. Not going to happen. This is just a money grab office. I went several times and although my Delta Dental is a PPO they tried to bill me for services as though it was not a PPO. They even tried to tell me that my coverage had changed and now I had a co pay for cleanings. This was not true as verified by Delta Dental. They tried to add extra "services" at each appointment. I was told I needed fillings. I went to another dentist and he did not recommend any fillings. I told them I would no longer be a patient there. So sad. Many of my good teeth removed unnecessarily for a poorly fitted partial. The partial broke within 6 months and the two dentists I went to for consultations regarding a nrw partial were both amazed and sickened at the unnecessary damage hat had been done. I now have a well fitted partial by another dentist but ill never have my teeth back. So so sad. I should sue them. read more
