This place is oh so cute. Really delicious and inventive menu. I had such a hard time deciding on a cocktail because they all sounded so amazing. Also a huge plus for me was that they make their whiskey sours with aquafaba! It's a vegan alternative to using egg white for this cocktail. I wish I could keep this place to myself as I am afraid that everyone will find it.  But I know that is selfish so I am sharing just how great of an experience we had.   We went to see the band V05 play and as it was an outdoor venue we felt comfortable going but didn't expect much.  Boy oh boy was I pleasantly surprised.  We were able to get a table way in the back not close to anyone so that I could feel comfortable.   We ordered the Impossible Larb, Tom Kah soup, brussel sprouts, fries and curds.  OMG, AMAZING!  I will definitely go back for the food.  I don't know if it is just that I haven't gone out in over two years or if it was really that good.  But wowwsers!  The Larb sounded disgusting, so I simply had to try it!  SOO glad I did.  I have this thing about food that if it sounds disgusting that is the one that I go for.  If it looks disgusting, even better!  So far it has worked for me as a vegetarian (knock on wood).  And the brussel sprouts, wow, just wow.  Hubby is a fan of the evil green globes, not me.  But they looked gross so I stuck a fork in and gave a try.  They just melted in my mouth and tasted so darn good!  I also sampled hubby's soup and just divine!  And don't even get me started on the curds.  Gaaaa.  Perfect.  Fries were good too! The band was really good.  We left into the second set as things were getting louder and more people were coming.  Good for the band and venue!   If you go, be careful not to step on the hostas.  Those poor things have a tough life. read more

Unfortunately, you serve yourself. There's no one to wipe the table down, so they just go around picking up empty glasses. They do have nice music there different nights of the week and it's outside. Man, my first two experiences at Robinia pre-COVID were fantastic, but tonight's was rough. I met a few pals for apps and drinks there. Drinks came out quick and tasty. We waited nearly an hour for two appetizers and a burger meal. The waitress brought the wrong appetizer, and when I asked for the right one the fries were taken away and we waited about another 40 minutes for the correct (cheese curds) and another meal. Apparently there was only one cook, but that does not explain the poor handling of the mistake or the extremely long delays as others got their food. I was pleased everything tasted good once we got the food. I wish we could have had something comped or gotten the incorrect appetizer for free. Great vibes here, though. I will be back but may be wary of ordering food. read more

The Domes are terrific! Even on the cold rainy evening we spent there (38 F), the inside of our dome was warm enough that we didn't need our coats. The food was waiting for us when we arrived and was absolutely delicious. And there was so much food our party of four had delicious leftovers to enjoy later. This was a great way to feel like we were doing something special and out if the ordinary even while taking COVID precautions. Highly recommend! read more

Robinia Courtyard is great, if not a little bit magical. Some of my favorite memories from this past summer are of sitting in this courtyard, playing a boardgame with friends and drinking some delicious beer. The taproom offers a well-curated selection, and always offers some beer I've never heard of or tried. And the food has always been fantastic! When I checked out Jardin about a month or so ago, I tried this chicken dish, and it was phenomenal!! Black Locust has always been one of my favorite little coffee shops, and they've been hosting some awesome art openings over the last several months. In fact, it seems like there is ALWAYS something going on at Robinia! Tons of fun events to check out. Parking can be tricky, but just use the side streets around the building. Or walk. It's frustrating when Madison gets a unique establishment like this, but people who live in a giant apartment building across the street can't be bothered to visit. It's literally right. across. the. street. Get up off your damn couch and check it out. I really hope this place can stay afloat until the new construction nearby is complete. I love Robinia Courtyard. Totally modern concept of having a cafe and a tap room on the same premise. The best of the day hang and the night hang. I enjoyed a lot and probably the most at the open area in the courtyard. Even in fall, there are heaters that makes it comfortable to enjoy the beverage and food out there. It's a nice pretty courtyard with a lot of green and very modern looking. Very friendly people around. Just a little under staff otherwise service could have sped up a little. If you are in a rush, it's probably not the best place for you. But if you don't mind, the taps and the food are worth the wait. So does all these nice seating too. I had the duck confit tacos, poutine, lamb sliders and shoshito peppers - were all top notched ! They also do private beer school which I love. And they get to have different brewers coming in every month taking over the taps. Never really get bored of the taps really. A great way to try different local beers on tap without going far off the city. This is the best of Madison in my opinion. read more

Atmosphere is a solid 10. Food and drinks tend to be cyclical. I've had some great food here, but the quality isn't consistent which is why I feel compelled to leave a lower star rating. The crepes I had at my most recent visit were dry and tortilla-like as opposed to the crepes we had a few months ago, which were light, airy and moist. If the consistency in quality were there, I would easily upgrade my rating. read more

I love this place. Cool upscale decor with lots of plants, intimate lighting and an overall sense of hyggue. This bar is perfect for happy hour drinks, dates, or dancing. They have salsa lessons frequently for $5, free queer dance parties often, art shows, and everything inbetween. Good beer selection and they have kombucha on tap which is perfect for me as I don't drink. Safe space for everyone. The best part about this place? No one knows about it. My $19 dollar burger was rare (requested medium) and cold in the middle. After sending it back, it was replaced with a cooked burger. Visiting family from out of town. Decided on this place as it was nearby the capitol. This place is great in concept and execution. We had a great meal in Jardin, followed by local brews in the beer pub. It was a great night and we only had to move a few inches to get a different vibe instead of ubering from one place to the next. Awesome space and some of the beat food I ever had. We absolutely loved our experience there.

I reserved a dome in the courtyard for my wife's birthday. We looked at the menu and were really excited about the dinner (basically you order everything ahead of time and they have it ready for you when you get there, minimal contact with wait staff, minimizes risk of COVID exposure, etc). The menu looked fantastic. I tried to get a hold of the restaurant to clarify a few points regarding the menu and it took a few tries to get a hold of someone but once I got a hold of the owners they were very helpful and accommodating. The space is beautiful and the way the domes are set up is very thoughtful. The dinner was fantastic and it was a great way to get out while trying to stay safe and socially distanced. Highly recommend. Pro-tip: If you're trying to get a hold of someone at Robinia Courtyard, call the Black Locust Cafe. They're all owned by the same guys (Madison Tap, Jardin, etc) read more

I flew in from D.C this past Saturday for my bestfriends costume/birthday party. After my bestfriend spent over a month of planning this party with the owners, the owners still managed to ruin his party. First the party was reserved from 7-11 (RESERVED) when we got there one of the owners decided to tell my bestfriend that we had to leave at 10:30 due to overbooking. How does that even happen? That's not even the worst part. Around 10, the guest from the other party crashed my bestfriends party, started eating his food and his birthday cake, we didn't even realize who these people were until we started asking. We had to rush to grab as much of his decorations as we could while the guest of the other party was enjoying his food, his reserved spot, his decorations....HIS PARTY! And not one owner was anywhere to be found to get an earfull, but yet made sure to let the guest of honor know when he got there. Couldn't give a heads up prior to his arrival or an apology after the fact. And if any of the owners are reading this, I'm pretty sure you know exactly which parties I'm referring to. It was completely disrespectful and unorganized on your part....Oh and where was the velvet rope that was promised? His night was ruined and the owners either hid or left so they didn't have to deal with pissed off guest. The place wasn't really that great to begin with but the bartenders were awesome, very friendly. I wasn't going to leave a review but seeing how upset my bestfriend was on his night, really pissed off and I didn't come from out of town to be told we needed to leave early because the ball was dropped. Fantastic patio for dining and/or drinking! I think I may have a new place for hanging out with friends. What a fun little garden patio! We started at the bar in The Julep and quickly moved out to the patio. The cocktails seemed to get tastier out there. (maybe it was the awesome fall weather we were having too!)
