Allow me to start off by saying that Dr. Robert Simeone is truly in a class
of his own! I have been going to this man since 1981, and there is no
other human being who gives more of himself to his patients, and sees
to it that everyone gets the most for their money. I go in barely able to walk,
and come out looking to run the decathlon! He is that good! Believe me!!!
Besides, the office accepts almost every type of insurance,
so what have you got to lose except the pain in your spine?
Just last week I went in, and told him what the problem was. . .
After we spoke, I was sent to the Anatomotor roller massage table room,
for a soft-tissue massage. The Anatomotor is a multi-purpose table used
primarily for roller massage relaxation, manipulation, physical therapy, lumbar
traction, buck's traction and cervical traction. There is one of those table beds
in there that looks like it was taken right out of that movie, "The road to Wellville!"
In each table bed there are two sets of adjustable-height massage rollers that
straddle the spine and rhythmically loosen taut muscles. This deep-kneading
massage effectively prepares the patient for traction which actually separates
the spinal vertebrae to relieve stress! Turn them wheels up high and relax!!!
From that room, I was taken into a smaller room where I would lie face down
on a soft chiropractic table (the one with a hole for your face.) From there, I
was given something called, electrical muscle stimulation. Gel on the neck
and back for four suction cups that supply a moderate amount of electricity
when the handheld device is powered on! This is nice, because you can tell
the assistant how much stimulation to apply! I always take as much as I can
stand, which usually has my neck and back muscles twitching involuntarily!!!
After this, the good doctor comes in and we talk as he proceeds to crack my
neck and back muscles. Sometimes it is so loud, it sounds like the doctor
may have just broke a bone! Then the assistant returns with Thumper, to
relieve even more stress! Thumper is a hand held massager that vibrates
loudly and tickles when pressed down firmly on the legs, and or buttocks!
But life isn't always peaches and cream in the chiropractor's lair. Sometimes
you must endure the torment of the dreaded Graston technique. Plain and
simple, the Graston technique is a series of shiny metal instruments specially
designed to break up scar tissue. Serious pressure is applied to what looks
like a blunt straight razor, but it is not sharp. The repetitive and deep scrapping
motion to one's neck and back after some time begins to send signals to the
brain that the good doctor may be removing both skin and muscle tissue! It is
around that time where I become pallid and nauseous. Deep tissue massage
hurts and is never fun, but sometimes it is the Graston technique that is needed
most. Expect some serious black and blue marks the next day from it. . .
