As others here have noted, one never feels that he's in a rush to wrap up his time with you and move on. He takes time to engage in a conversation with you, to listen to your concerns and questions, and to address them thoroughly. For me, good communication is the most important quality I look for in a primary care doctor, aside from a basic confidence in his/her competence. Dr. Killian has helped me better understand my various medical issues and articulates his treatment goals and methodologies in an exceptionally thorough and understandable manner. I have a fantastic cardiologist who is also an excellent communicator, but I have often found myself with Dr. Killian explaining and helping me understand my heart issues more completely than I would listening to my cardiologist alone. He is thorough in integrating test results and other information from the cardiologist (and other specialists) into my patient records to maintain a complete understanding of all my ongoing medical issues. I could scarcely ask for more than that. His group practice, Red River Family Practice, is well-run, and I have encountered very few of the office/administrative frustrations I have at similar group practice offices. Reading some other less-than-positive reviews here, I'm reminded that no single physician is likely to be the right fit for every patient, each with their unique concerns and expectations. That said, Dr. Killian is a perfect fit for my priorities and expectations, and his competence and professionalism provide a rock-solid foundation to support those preferences. I am extremely disappointed with the way my appointment was handled. I was contacted by the office…read moreand told that, due to office policy, I was being reclassified from an established patient to a new patient because I had not been seen in three years. While I understand that offices may have policies, the impact of this change was a clear decrease in the level of service provided. As an established patient, I had originally scheduled a 10-minute appointment with my primary care physician, Dr. Michael Lifshen. After being reclassified as a new patient, I was told that I could no longer see him during my scheduled appointment time and would have to wait until the following day for a new patient appointment. When I asked about a same-day option, I was told I could see his PA instead of my physician. Since this was not what I had scheduled and I wanted to see my actual primary care provider, I declined. The office then rescheduled me with a different doctor who has no familiarity with my medical history or previous care. The entire purpose of having a primary care physician is continuity of care and having a provider who understands your medical background. This policy resulted in unnecessary inconvenience and left me without access to the physician I specifically chose for my care. A policy change should not come at the expense of patient experience, continuity, or quality of care. I hope the office reconsiders how this transition is handled for existing patients in the future. After the reclassification, I was also required to re-enter and upload all of my information again through the check-in app, even though I had already completed this process previously. This added another unnecessary layer of redundancy and frustration to an already disruptive experience.

I wish these things could be said the first time instead of having to call 3 different days to get 3 different answers. The communication is terrible and seems like they don't know what they're doing. I wouldn't have an issue if these things were told in the first call i made. Ive been needing PT and its been beyond a hassle to get a referral after they recommended someone. I had a good experience in my first visit but this just voids that good visit. If you decide to go with them, make sure to ask every question and find out everything before hand so there's no surprised later.

I just received a cancellation at 8:30 a.m. for an appointment I had today with Dr. Paxton at 1:30 p.m., which I intended to make. The reason for his cancellation: I had canceled too many times in the past (from what I understand it was five times). Let me give you some relevant background. First, I intended to make this appointment today - I didn't cancel it. Second, I always gave him more than 24 hours notice or, at least, 24 hours of cancellation, with the exception of one time, when I had the stomach flu and didn't know I would need to cancel (I got it overnight). Third, I work two jobs so I'm VERY busy. I don't know until a couple of days before an appointment, whether I'll be able to make the appointment. I think 24 hours notice for each cancellation is more than sufficient, even if I canceled twice as many times. Every other doctor and clinic in this city thinks that's sufficient notice. Supposedly, Dr. Paxton made the choice himself not to see me. The ironic part is that he didn't give me 24 hours notice, but he expects more than that from me. Hmmm....interesting...I've decided I don't want him as a doctor and maybe most of you should rethink whether you want him as a doctor either...

I respect and admire him. He genuinely cared about me, my health and medical conditions, and my general welfare. I will never forget him, and I miss him being my doctor. Even though I now live in Temple, home of Baylor-Scott & White with an abundance of physicians, Dr. Azim Shekarchi is still my favorite doctor (and it's now summer of 2026).
