Ridiculous consult fee! Just wanted a consult on skin tightning! Was in there for about 15min to get told that a non surgical procedure doesnt last long and the price for it was out of my budget! Ive been going here for years and i love my regular derm doctor but the front desk help has gone down hill! They all just seem like they hate it there! If u want info over the phone for quick questions you get nothing! Or it just serms like they are bothered by you even asking! Basically i could've looked it up for free i guess! But there was no highlighted info on the $100 fee while making this consult visit! When making my appointment they of course dont tell you! I just needed to vent on it! I have a cancer survivor friend who swears to the greatness of Dr. Beer of whom I have not ever met personally since I was triaged and managed thru an assistant who was nice. My issue is I am scared to continue being treated here as I went in and got a biopsy that turned into an infection that I got antibiotics for but they were not transparent about the infection in my chart and tried to play it off like we will just give you meds just to be safe but it was clearly infected and painful and pus filled. On top of that the same person that did the biopsy job was trying to stitch me up again and I was petrified of going through that nonsense again. I have been a patient of Dr Beer for about 15 years. Everyone in his staff from the receptionist to the Physician Assistants have the greatest attitude. Always a smile on their face and they give off the friendliest vibe. They go out of their way to explain the procedures they are performing and they bend over backwards to make sure the patient is comfortable and informed. My recent visit was with Dr. Christina Lackland, a member of Dr. Beer's staff. She did a biopsy on two growths, one on my nose and the other on my back. My son has been going to this office for 3 or 4 years now. The Dr. is aware of his condition and we've monitored him for some time now. He uses the cream/ointment as directed to prevent any breakouts or issues with his skin. However, EVERY year I'm made to pay $35 for an appt. just for them to approve the same prescription? Literally they spend less than 5 mins asking the same 2 or 3 questions and then they approve the SAME prescription!!? I feel like I'm being ripped off. I mean I could see if there WAS a change in his condition, but there isn't. The meds provided are supposed to help prevent anything from happening, and that works, so why do I need to annually pay for the same advise and meds? Looking for a new dermatologist asap! read more

I had to take my mother with dementia to get a cancerous site removed from her face. The office staff and nurses were all very friendly and accommodating. The doctor on the other hand did not introduce himself to me or my mother, whom has dementia and doesn't remember who he is. He didn't explain the procedure to her and when he was done he just walked out of the patient room with zero explanation to myself or my mom. The nurses had to tell me he was done and what to expect. When I asked why the doctor didn't tell me the nurse said because the doctor was busy. I thought that was not only rude but unprofessional. If the doctor doesn't have time to explain the procedure or check in with the patient then maybe he should look for a job not dealing with people. read more

Do not do vanquish until you have at least two consultations! I was never a candidate even though I was told I was by this office! I went to another place who told me I didn't qualify after I had already had it done at this office. The people are great just really do your research. Staff if friendly here but they are a RIP OFF. You get charged an arm and a leg for any procedure. In our case it would be freezing warts off my children. If you don't have a credit card on file for each individual family members account, they charge you a $10 statement fee. Didn't know I had to have a credit card on file for my 8,10,12 &14 yr. old when their father has one on his account. Sometimes you just gotta pay the $ to get someone off your back. Glad my hands are washed clean of this place. P.S. We got our own wart freeze and it works just fine and that was $20. read more

I just walked out of the room after waiting 25 minutes for a PA to look at my eczema for the third time...follow through. I've seen 3 other doctors/PA with never the same one twice. No one poked their head in to say anyone was running late. I poked my head out and there was no one in sight. As I was walking out one of the FOUR desk girls asked if I wanted to reschedule! Ha, why would I want to do that? There are other dermatologist. My husband's primary care dr told him not to see Dr Beer. He read something about him in a Medical Journal and said to stay away from him. Wouldn't say any more...ethics I guess. Don't recommend. read more

I have a tremendous amount of respect for the field of medicine. I have no respect for this doctor. I went to his office several times in Antioch when I first moved to East County. I liked his office staff, but he seemed somewhat unknowledgeable, and had terrible bedside manner. But, I was younger, and more trusting then, and agreed to a small surgical procedure to remove a worrisome mole at his request. He left me with a large scar on my chest, so big in fact that the woman he worked with recommended I get plastic surgery to fix it. read more

Careful when coming here. They are always on the money grab. Staff is nice enough but clearly there for $. Their beauty program where you pay a monthly fee isn't fully transparent. You don't get statements and I never knew exactly what I was paying for and paying in and they've raised my rates without explaining to me. When I canceled they couldn't provide a statement yet charged me the full (not beauty program) amount even after going there for years. The straw however was when THEY cancelled and changed my appointments twice in a row and then told me I had to pay a $75 deposit in case I cancel or no show (which I have never done). No thank you. I have had nothing but problems with the office staff and dermatologists since the very beginning. For your information Dr. Beer is associated with Balfour Dermatology. (I also urge you to check out the reviews for Balfour Dermatology - they aren't good!) So this review if for the entire office. You would be a fool to try this office. If you want headaches, issues, ERRONEOUS CHARGES and just a general difficult time then this is the office for you. The staff behind the desk is extremely rude and will site policy whenever you need to do anything outside of the norm making your life as difficult as possible. Even when challenged to be provided with said policy and proof that you have signed it (which you haven't and then don't have proof of) they force their policy on you. I asked to be billed for a copay (standard medical practice in most offices and I need bills for my records.) They attempt to charge me $25 to be billed. I asked for some sort of copy of the policy I had signed agreeing to this. She could not find any written document with the info on it let alone a signed copy from me agreeing to it. Only after my appointment did another staff member say oh sorry, she doesn't know what she's talking about. Don't worry about it. Uh, a little too late? And, I made an appointment yesterday (late afternoon) for tomorrow. Extremely short notice on both ends. I woke up today and I'm not feeling well and I cancelled the appointment. But not after someone told me that I would have a $25 cancellation fee for cancelling within 24 hours. I responded that it would be physically impossible for me to do that as the appointment wasn't made within 24 hours. She replied "well we were able to fit you in." I'm sorry but you can not charge someone for cancelling an appointment within 24 hours when it wasn't made with 24 hours of notice. Pretty incredibly bold and probably illegal. Most offices make an exception in this case because it's physically impossible to do so. And then there is my very first experience where I showed up to an appointment we had made but it wasn't on their books and the lady behind the desk was rude and blamed me for the mistake. Good business practices and customer service would have been to be polite about the mistake and offer to fix it. This is not that kind of place. Not to mention the actual medical treatment is a joke. If you have any issues all they do is throw a cream at you and hope it works. I've been dealing with the same skin issue for over a year. Went to a different dermatologist and he was like "what are they doing? All you need is this." Sure enough within a few days problem solved. I fully believe this place gives you something that doesn't work so you have to keep coming back Appointment after Appointment. And be subject to their ridiculous, down right insulting policy that you haven't intact signed. I highly recommend you run, RUN, from this place! read more

First visit I told the front desk I wasn't interested nor would I see a PA. They snuck him in on me. No introduction as to who he was when he came in room. I became suspect when someone else came in to cut a sample off my cheek. Called Dr Beers office and he didn't have the time to discuss this with me and didn't call me back. They just want your money and will bill for nothing without warning! I have been coming here for over 6 years, as it was the closest derm and I was happy with the treatment I received until recently. My husband had an appointment that was scheduled one year in advance and did not receive a reminder for an appointment that was schedule ONE YEAR IN ADVANCE. He found out about the appointment because mailed letter and sent a bill. Of course they couldn't have picked up the phone, just sent a bill to collect their $75 no show fee. I called and the woman I spoke to directed me to the HIPPA policy where its states these are courtesy calls and you may not get one. Oh you mean in the pile of paperwork you expect us to sign and read in 15 minutes???? No one reads that and they need to be clear every time you schedule an appointment that you are on the hook for $75 for no show and you will NOT get a reminder like the one that every other medical professional provides for appointments scheduled ONE YEAR IN ADVANCE. Also part of their paperwork is to give them your credit card so they can bill you whenever they like, I said no to that and glad I did. I will NOT be paying that no show fee. The woman I spoke to was so rude and unprofessional, I was too angry and forgot to get her name. I had a surgery scheduled for next week that I will be canceling. I'd rather start over then ever trust that office again! Additionally, the male NP there prescribed an alcohol based solution for my 6 year old's cradle cap that sent him through the roof with pain and of course it was $100, of which was wasted. Then they wanted to burn moluscum off my 5 year old, not even mentioning several other much less painful treatments that my Stanford pediatric physician is using. I and my family have been visiting this office since early 2000. My husband went one time and on that visit he received a permanent scar from an incompetent staff member. Customer services and doctors have been great up until 3-4 years ago. If you're more concerned and interested in fillers, cosmetic and getting sucked into the whole Obaji thing than this is the place for you. But please read reviews on their fillers because I don't get them and can't review their services on fillers and other cosmetic procedures. I've been using a particular product (recommended by Dr. Robert Beer in Brentwood) for years that they no longer carry in their office. Because of this, I requested a prescription but was told that I'll have to pay for an office visit to get that prescription. However I was told that I can come in and purchased the same product under their Obaji brand and an appointment would be necessary. Lol Seriously? You also have to leave a credit card on file before receiving any type of care or before seeing the doctors. When ask the reason for this, I was told because some people come in for expensive cosmetic treatments and don't pay or pay with fraudulent cards. I took my dear mother to Dr. Beer many times, for both precancerous and cancerous growths. He and his staff were always beyond superb. 5 stars just doesn't seem high enough! They always treated her quickly and painlessly, possibly saving her from terminal caner, and giving her many more good years of healthy life. I really don't think you could find a more knowledgeable or skilled dermatologist anywhere, not even Stanford, UCSF, UCLA, Cleveland Clinic, Mayo Clinic, Mass. General, etc. He is that excellent. I'm a tough customer, rarely give a 5-star rating (I give more 1 & 2-stars than 5-stars), so when I give a 5 star, it really means something! If you have precancerous or cancerous skin growths, or suspicious skin growths, you owe it to both yourself and your loved ones to go to Dr. Beer ASAP, to get checked out and treated!
