I seriously needed a hair stylist to give me a "Gene Juarez" cut. I thought a salon charging $90 would get me there. Oh, how horribly wrong I was. I asked Christian to lighten the heavy straight top portion of my hair so the natural curly lower half could dominate. He did nothing to the top half. Not even one cut to an old haircut from March! He cut my bangs so crooked, I wonder if he's ever cut hair before. At the back of my neck, which I can't get a good pic of, there is an area that is cut almost to the scalp, yet the rest of the neck area is 2" long. He took my natural curls and "textured" them so poorly, they're nothing but frizz now. This cut is by far the worst cut I've had, including after letting my friends cut it. I want to point out that after the cut and style, I was really pleased; BUT there was so much product in my hair, of course I couldn't know he'd done such a horrific job. I was so looking forward to going to a high end salon for a good cut. A friend had referred Khristian so I booked an appointment with him. I had a photo of me with a haircut I had gotten 18 years ago and really liked. He barely looked at it. I wanted long shoulder length layers and I got nothing like that. Everything I told him I didn't like (blunt cut, ends that flipped out) was exactly the way he cut it. From first sitting in his chair and talking about the cut to walking out took about 30 minutes! He acted like he was in a big hurry to get out of there. Not friendly and not what I expected from a high $ salon. I saw Jessica years ago. Couldn't remember why I changed but I went back recently and she's super down to earth, sweet and fun to talk to. I needed a root touch up, highlights and a cut. There was a spot on the front of my hair she had to re-do three times and it finally came out "ok". A little darker than the rest. I loved my cut and the end product was pretty good. Then we get to the cash register. $272 Let me repeat. $272. Are you kidding me??? Before tip. Are we in freaking New York City? After messing up and keeping me there another thirty (at least) minutes than needed I was in shock!! My hair, or the experience there was nowhere near worth that. She ala carted the crap outta me. I went in for a haircut and to freshen up my color. I showed JANA a picture that I normally get done. Not too complicated of a cut. Unfortunately I walked away with the WORST haircut of my life. I told JANA that I'm military so I couldn't have drastically 2 tones hair.. after paying close to $190 and crying in my car on the way home I had to go buy box hair color just to go to work the next morning. I have long hair that I've had cut 2x here. On both occasions my stylist has cut it unevenly. The first time I pointed it out to him by pulling it forward to show the length discrepancy. The second time I didn't notice until I was home. So my hair has had a 1" length discrepancy when I wear it forward. It's pretty apparent and I'm a professional woman, so it has bothered me. Worst cut of my life and experience, owner did nothing but name drop and butcher my hair asked for angled bob with very textured layers, instead I got a cut that looks like Thelma from Scooby-Doo, heck at least Thelma's was blended. The layers are choppy not blended and one side is longer than the other. Worst cut of my life, it was styled rough and wavy so I couldn't see the bad right then and there like the stylist was trying to hide his mistakes. I've only had excellent experiences at the Robert Allan Salon. In fact, when I lived in Hawaii, making several trips to the mainland per year, I'd wait to get my hair cut while visiting Olympia! Allan has been my hair dresser (more like hair artist) for around 15 years. He's always friendly, courteous, and careful to cut my hair to my liking. This salon had amazing reviews but I was thoroughly disappointed about my whole experience here. The gal that cut my hair maybe said 5 words total to me when I was getting my hair done. She didn't spend very much time on my hair at all and didn't even touch the front of it. My hair is so choppy and I have such short layers under long layers. After trying to grow my hair out and spending so much money on it this is a nightmare. So Christian cut my hair. At first he wasn't very welcoming. Just kind of looked at me like ok. So I just said I wanted a trim, keep the length and reshape my layers. I have curly hair! So I asked him to cut it dry because that's how most ppl do it. Makes sense. Anyway it looked fine and after washing it he goes back in and like thins tf out of my hair! Like twisting it and cutting it. So I have these really short layers underneath and through out. I really just want to cry my hair is so fucking thin. There are clumps of hair still coming out when I come through it. I usually go to Jessica and she does amazing but I was told all of the stylists can cut curly hair. That isn't the case. I gave this business 2 stars only because I think Robert and Allan are great stylists, but the rest of my experience leaves much to be desired. I started going there in Sept 2010; went there again in Oct 2010 (I was wanting to shorten my hair in baby steps!!!)...On those first 2 occasions I saw Allan, then Robert...both great stylists!!! Then Christmas Eve, 2010 I had the experience from hell...I had called a couple days earlier to see if I could get in to (hopefully) see Robert or Allan...but of course they were booked...I wanted my hair cut and colored for the holidays and was told "Theresa" would do a good job...I figured since I'd had good experiences the first two times, this would be ok...worst.mistake.ever.... First, she "forgot" to color my hair, wouldn't cut it nearly anything like I was asking, despite showing her numerous pictures and explaining what I wanted...I was ready to go shorter!!! Alas, by the end of my appointment, I still had gray hair around my hairline, had splotches of color on my face that took 2 days to remove...and my hair didn't look like it had even been trimmed (though I know she did cut SOME hair). I learned all about her life during this time, her marriages, where she went on vacation as a kid, how many sons she has, how she was an educator for hair products before going to beauty school (2 yrs prior)...and while I was under the dryer, she primped and sprayed her hair several times..., but she didn't listen to me at all...I don't think I was unrealistic and I dont' expect to look like the models on the wall or in the book, but it should have given her an idea of how short I wanted my hair. At the end of my appt, I was so frustrated....she said I needed to learn to communicate better...I honestly dont know how I could have been any clearer...I barely made it to my car before bursting into tears... there I sat with dark dye on my forehead and temples, still had obvious grays, and a flat hairdo...so pissed!!! Not to mention between the "services" I got and the products I bought (some blow out volumizing serum-which I love!) I dropped $185!! About a week later, I wrote Allan a letter explaining my distress and how upset I was about my experience...his response??? NOTHING!!! ZILCH!!! NADA!! And THAT pissed me off even more!! Lastly, I called and talked to my sis-in-law who had originally told me about the place and found out she had the EXACT treatment from Theresa and has vowed never to return, again due to lack of response from owner when these complaints come up...I will NEVER go there again, despite Robert and Allan's talent...the business end of it is shameful!!! But I guarantee I will tell ANYBODY AND EVERYBODY to stay away...they are good to begin with, then its all down hill from there...I am absolutely sure there are many who would disagree with me, but I know for a fact that there are just as many who have had similar experiences as I there...Good Luck if you choose to pursue a relationship here... read more

Horrifying experience. Not only did I pay $133 (that includes a $20 off coupon and does NOT even include a hair cut) to go ombre, but the hair stylist messed up on my hair big time. I wanted to go ombre so that I could have a more natural looking and low maintenance look. I asked the stylist to dye the top part of my hair my natural hair color. Unfortunately he dyed it four or five shades darker than my natural hair color and the ombre does not even fade from dark to light. Not to mention, at the end of the session I was charged $177 for a hair cut that I did not even receive and had to be refunded. Needless to say, I left the salon crying. When I called to schedule an appt. with the stylist to get my hair fixed, he proceeded to argue with me about what color my natural color is and said he could not get me in for another 7 days to fix it. read more

I have visited this salon about every 3 - 4 months for the last year for hair cuts and pedicures. My experience with both has been excellent, with Robert cutting my hair. Similarly, my extremely particular husband has his hair cut by Allen, and he is always pleased with the outcome. I had one of the best pedicures of my life at this salon, the price is higher than your little "nail shack" but the care and attention is well worth it. I like that they suggest treatment based on both the health of your nails as well as the appearance, for example, minimizing cuticle cutting if you do not really need it. This salon also offers a good selection of haircare products and the salon employees are knowledgeable, and in fact give you instructions so that you can do a better job at home. I went to this salon awhile back and felt disappointed. My stylist was Jessica and her customer service was lacking. She was very cold and didn't make any small talk. I don't know if it was just late in the day and she wanted to go home but it was like pulling teeth to get her to talk to me. That is one of the things I look forward to when I get my haircut- the friendly small talk. She raced through my haircut and it just felt like she wanted to leave. The added bonus was I had a coupon for the haircut but even with the discount it was $35, which is the going rate around town anyways. If you're looking to talk with great people, you're at the right place! Erica is the best! Julie, Theresa, Khristian, Alicia, all wonderful folks and a pleasure to hang out with while you're there. It is because of them that I feel badly leaving a poor review. I went in asking to lighten my hair. I brought in pictures that showed balayage at the ends but specified that I was growing out my natural color and didn't want anything drastic or that looked like I went in to color my hair, just a natural looking balayage to blonde. What I left with was bleach blond hair all over from 2 inches off my scalp! Aside from this not being what I wanted in the first place, the application didn't take so there are orange and brown spots throughout. The reason for the appointment being scheduled was because I had 2 huge events that weekend and wanted to feel my best. Instead I had to wear a bun (which was still horrific) and explain to everyone what had happened to my hair. What used to be healthy is now brittle and broken. It now takes me 20 minutes to comb through it after a wash. I had a stylist for several years in Tacoma, but living down in Mason County was looking for a new place down South. I had tried out RAS a couple times and thought I may have found it. After my experience, especially with my hair in such a fragile state, I only feel comfortable at this point going to my original gal who knows my hair and hair goals. Although I have never asked for a refund in my life, I saw no other possible resolution. I need to take this to a professional that I trust and it does not make sense to pay $200 for a salon to fix what I just paid RAS $200 to destroy. I relayed this info to Robert himself who refused to allow for a refund, and only offered services at RAS to rectify the issue. I was sure to inform him (through tears) of the severity; my hair can not afford another mistake and at this point I do not trust this salon to touch it. Still, Robert stands firm on his no-refund policy. I am now one week into my new bun-wearing hairstyle, still having to explain to friends, family and co-workers "What did you do to your hair?" I have scheduled an appointment with my trusted salon and looks like I will have to have paid $400 for worse hair than I started with. read more

HACK JOB! HORRIBLE! THE WORST HAIR EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER HAD!! Three weeks before my wedding I went in to get medium brown hair with highlights and came out with BLACK HAIR and blone splotches in my hair. There was no blending to speak of, it was like a line was drawn for blonde on top and black on bottom. When I called the next day to have them fix it they said they would have to charge me for it!! I was looking for a hair stylist in the Olympia area. I called and asked for an experienced stylist, I was assigned to Robert. I wanted a shoulder length bob with layers. I ended with two layers that look like steps and the bottom so uneven, one side is longer than the other and a have a strand of hair that didn't get cut.
