Matuk gave me a colonoscopy without ever a follow up. So Mary or Mark; hope I didn't get the gender wrong, the office manager, refused me because they said I saw another VA doctor. Why would the VA make an appointment with Matuk if I saw another doctor? That didn't make sense or wasn't a logical reason refuse to see me OR it's because of my service to this country. Dr. Matuk's office refused me because of my veterans service or because of my ethnic background as a Native American! I have 2 excellent insurances both Blue Cross/Blue Shield and the VA insurance but was refused service. My husband was in so much pain he wanted to end all treatment and enter hospice care. My husband's regular doctor was in Santa Barbara and he was too ill to travel for follow up care so he reluctantly agreed to find a PCP in Bakersfield. I asked around for the best Doctor in town and was referred to Dr. Heidrick. Dr. Heidrick met with him for his first visit on a Monday, ordered STAT tests Tuesday, Correctly Diagnosed my husband Wednesday and had him to the top Surgeon at UCLA on Thursday. Needless to say his recovery has been bumpy but Dr. Heidrick and his amazing staff have been with us every step of the way. My husband's recovery goal was to play golf and today for my husbands birthday he was able to play golf with his son. So grateful to Dr. Heidrick and his staff. She is clear with options and risks with medications, and is clear with follow up instructions. She is a very professional, kind, and caring doctor. I am always able to get into see her in a reasonable time and have referred other friends to her who have also told me how much they like that they have a doctor who listens. Dr. Sharma has given me referrals as needed over the years to specialists who have also been very helpful in addressing other medical needs that have come up with illnesses, injuries, and required testing that is needed with aging. One of the best things about this practice is that you can get your bloodwork done in house - so it's nice to have a morning appointment, come to the appointment fasting, and get your bloodwork done right away- no other appointments or trips to a lab needed! Her office staff is very nice and helpful. They are efficient with paperwork needs and have always been professional and friendly. The only semi negative thing i can say is that you should expect a wait regardless of your appointment time. This is because they spend a lot of time with each patient going over the visit.
