1-Star Review…read more Extremely disappointing and unacceptable experience. We had a confirmed appointment with Dr. Brian Shih today at 2:00 PM. We received multiple appointment reminders from Shih Medical Services and even clicked the confirmation link, which clearly showed that our appointment was confirmed. We brought my elderly, ill father all the way to the office for his scheduled appointment, only to arrive and find that no one was there. The office was completely closed/unattended. We received no phone call, text, or other notification telling us not to come. To make matters worse, we have also had serious difficulty getting his prescriptions filled because the pharmacies we contacted would not accept prescriptions from this doctor, which has created additional stress while trying to care for my ill father. It is incredibly upsetting to put an elderly patient who is already unwell through the difficulty of getting ready, traveling to a medical office, and arriving for a confirmed appointment, only to find nobody there. Mistakes can happen, but when a medical office schedules and repeatedly confirms an appointment, the very least a patient should expect is to be notified if the doctor or staff will not be there. This experience was extremely unprofessional, inconsiderate, and disrespectful of a patient's time and health.

Regardless of when I call, whomever answers the phone immediately says "Please wait" and the long waiting begins. This a small office, rarely more than two or three patients in the waiting area at a time. I have never seen it so busy that would require a hold for over 10 mins. They never announce who they are. This staff badly needs receptionist skills. If it wasn't that I was very pleased with Dr. Shih himself, I wouild defintely find another doctor. The manager told me it "wouldn't come out of my pocket" because they wanted me to sign a lien against my accident settlement. They recommended 12 visits at $1,000 each and explained that I wouldn't notice any improvement in inflammation until after six treatments. This made me uncomfortable, as the costs were extremely high and the medical necessity was unclear. The whole experience felt more about securing payment than about patient care. When I left, the staff's expressions were telling -- almost as if they knew it was unusual. In my opinion, treatment referrals should come from a licensed physician who has evaluated your condition, not through an attorney. I ultimately decided not to proceed.

I asked to stay with Dr. Matian. My experience with the PA named Jackie has been consistently positive. My experience with Dr. Martin also has been consistently positive. Sometimes he cannot fulfill my requests (like this week) and he provides an explanation. It doesn't change my opinion of how accommodating and compassionate he has been. Yes, it is hard to reach someone at the office. My experience with the staff in-person has been positive. There is a male worker and Colleen who are consistently gracious and have follow through.

I've been a patient for a little over three years, and I would not recommend this office to anyone seeking any sort of timely, attentive, or effective medical care. I have never actually seen Dr. Matian in person, even after multiple attempts to make in-person appointments. My most recent appointment was a brief phone call that lasted a little over 3 minutes. During that call, I was told an order for blood work would be submitted. A week later, after hearing nothing, I had to contact the office myself to follow up because the order had never been placed. What was even more concerning was that once I followed up, the office asked me to identify which blood tests had been ordered. I'm still not sure why they couldn't verify this information with the "doctor" who was supposed to have submitted the order, or review my medical chart. As the patient, I should not be responsible for tracking down basic information about my own treatment plan because the office failed to document or process it correctly. The entire experience made me question the purpose of the appointment in the first place. If my provider cannot follow through on the care discussed during our call, and patients have to chase down their own orders and treatment information afterward, something is clearly not working. Based on my most recent experience, and an overall abysmal three years of "care", I would strongly discourage anyone from going to this practice. The lack of follow through, communication, and attention to patient care has been extremely disappointing and at times alarming.
