Rob is very reliable; when he says he'll be there, he'll be there. Gets the job done right the first time. Realigns wood piers.

The Boat House of Lauderdale Lakes

The Boat House of Lauderdale Lakes

We rented a pontoon boat for a day and had a great time. The boat was super - New - and held 10…read morepeople and was easy to operate. 4 stars for equipment. The problem is they aren't really set up as a rental place-I'm guessing it's a pretty small part of their core business of selling and storing boats so it was a bit tedious checking in and out with long delays. It was also rather tedious communicating with them prior to our rental-literally days would go by before emails would get responses so one must really plan ahead with them if renting. Equipment-wise they offered just two options a10-person pontoon (probably the newest I've ever rented) or a deck boat.

Do not go to this place. I dropped off my Bennington Pontoon for some warranty work and they called…read moreme later and tried to tell me that they would not do the work under the warranty because my boat was in SALT WATER! Salt water? I live in the midwest. I tried to plead with them and asked for the manager which they said was out of town so I paid the 370 bucks to have them clean one terminal on a dashboard switch. And then gave me a price of 1600 bucks to clean the rest which I didnt have them do OBVIOUSLY. I called Bennington and they agreed that this place was ripping me off. I then called the manager (Matt) who informed me that he doesn't know why his people would tell me this and agreed to refund my credit card which I thought was commendable. That refund took 4 weeks and several phone calls to finally get my money back. Im not sure why they are treating boaters like this. Maybe they know my ex wife? I will never go back here again and I warn anyone who I can to do the same. Beware! I posted some pictures of the terminals that this place said was completely corroded from saltwater. You tell me.

If you are looking for a boat mechanic you cannot go wrong with Barry. I've been taking my boats to…read morehim for years. I'm on my third boat (fiberglass with I/O, fishing boat with outboard, and now a pontoon with an outboard) and he's done great work to all of them. He has given me great advice and guidance on buying and selling my boats too. I have not had a problem yet that he couldn't diagnose and fix right away. He's quick to respond (I sent him a frantic email at 10:30pm one night from vacation and he was able to diagnose the problem within an hour). What other mechanic would provide that kind of service? His prices are fair and he does not charge you for things you don't need. He is not out there to gauge people for a one-time payday. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a mechanic. Even if you already have one, give him a try. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Barry's Marine is a gem. Had a stainless steel prop, fish finder/sonar and an engine tune up all…read moredone by Barry. Barry's price came in lower than what the stealership wanted for the steel prop ALONE not to mention all the other work he did. The work is done well, on time, and you can tell he takes pride in his work. He told me that due to the curvature of my dash that a mount would be difficult to place where I wanted it but he was able to make it work and it looks great! How many places can you say that about? Recently I had a skeg break off that was improperly (no pun intended) welded on. He recommended Mike's prop shop. Due to the poor craftsmanship that was done previously (by a previous owner, not me) they were unable to properly fix the skeg without potential damage to the lower unit. Barry did everything in his power to try to get the skeg fixed and even after I had already come to terms with needing a new lower unit, he still had one more weld guy he wanted to try. The other welder confirmed it was not salvageable so I got a new aftermarket lower unit by Barry for less than 1/3 of the price of a stealership. Each time Barry has touched my boat the performance is better than it was before, and noticeably so. My friend has a newer boat (by about 10 years) than I do and he says mine is quieter and works better than his. Barry is my go to for anything I need done with my boat and in the short time I've owned my boat I wouldn't let anyone else touch it. Thanks for being honest and a good business person. Hard to come by these days.

I have been a customer for probably about 16 or more years. Their customer service was always…read morereally poor but I put up with it for the location near multiple lakes. As a long standing customer, I will tell you a few things. 1.) I stored my boat with them and it would take them up to six months at times to cash my check. I had to take a ride from MKE to Oconomowoc multiple times to ask them to cash my check as they don't answer the phone. 2.) On more than one occasion I had a rodent problem during winter storage. The last time rodents chewed through wires. 3.) I had repairs done with them and they were always late, frequently saying next week and then next week again ad infinitum. I remember one time, I called repeatedly because no one answered the phone. The owner finally answered and said, "I cant get any work done with the phone ringing off the hook." Hire someone to answer the phone. 4.) One time during the run up for summer storage, they threw my boat cover in what looked like Dextron fluid completely soaking the back half of the new cover. I politely called the owner ( he finally answered the phone) and his response was, "We're only human." Understatement of the Century. 5) Lastly, I had been with them so long, there was a time when you could do minor repairs in their boat yard. Apparently that changed somewhere along the line and they never told me. There is fine print on the bottom of the storage agreement. You'd think they'd tell long-standing customers about the policy change. I recently spliced a wire in my boat which took a bit longer than an hour, apparently the owner saw I was on the property that long after reviewing his surveillance tapes. He calls me at work. I say, "Hey what's up , "and the owner starts barking at me loudly. Come get your boat, we'll return your check. I had just paid. I asked why. He said I told you not to work on your boat on the yard. I told him he had not and if he did, I would have done the repair elsewhere. He started yelling, YOU SIGNED A PIECE OF PAPER. YOU SIGNED A PIECE OF PAPER - apparently referencing the rental agreement. I got angry and said I've been a customer for almost 20 (expletive) years and he had watched me install my boat seats in the yard years ago. I didn't know the policy had changed. After that the owner said, "I don't appreciate your language and we'll have to see what the insurance says after uploading the tapes (whatever that means). After that I was finished. Convenient location to the lakes wasn't worth it. I came and pulled the boat the next day and the secretary gave me back my check. The owner wasn't around. Yes I should have read the fine print but when a customer has been with you that long, you should probably tell them about the policy change or they will assume it's business as usual. I learned a lesson. I will never ignore so many red flags for the sake of convenience. Avoid this business like the plague. The owner needs a lesson in customer service and how to treat people in general. (I've added the photos of the rodent damage done to my boat the second time during winter storage and photos of where they soaked my boat cover in a Dextron-like fluid by throwing it on the shop floor. If you want to be treated poorly, Retzlaff Marine is your place.)

Twice they told me it was fixed but in less than an hour on the water, the same problem arose both times. It was finally fixed after I called the engine manufacturer and had the corporate service director contact the dealership to walk them through the repair. Awful! Do not use. Ever!
