After talking at length with a sales person on the phone, my blind music partner and I were assured…read morethat the guitar and amplifier we inquired about was in stock. I did not mention that we travel with her Guide Dog (Ferguson) from Guide Dogs For The Blind in San Raphael. We arrived, having traveled an hour from El Cerrito, fully prepared to spend ~$4000, and see if they could order another $4000 worth of gear. While attempting to seat my Blind partner with her pup, a short, young, bespeckled man rushed over and said "No dogs allowed in here." I quickly informed of the "Guide Dog" status, to which he replied "Doesn't matter- you can't have a dog in here". I gently informed him of the law, via ADA, and he repeated, "Doesn't matter, you cant have him in here". At that point, the man behind the counter shouted, over a few customers' heads, that he had allergies and we need to get the dog out. I told him we'll be leaving, but that he should familiarize himself with possible exemptions of ADA rules. My feeling is, that if we had been treated more politely and professionally, we would have been happy to return later, when he was not present, to consummate a win-win deal with a different sales person. Seriously rude treatment from both staff members. This is not a misinterpretation of the exchange; these guys were crude. I am neither vindictive nor litigious by nature, nor is my Blind partner. But in this case, she is seriously considering action.

He was super encouraging and I really enjoyed taking lessons under him... too bad I'm graduating this year and had to discontinue. I think the repairs on this place are nice but a bit slow. Jason does great work and makes sure that everything is in working order but it takes a long time. My only negative experience with this place: I took my clarinet in for repair. They gave me an estimated date of a week. I called them around the 5-day mark to ask if it was ready and they told me an extra 2-days (as expected). I ended up being busy at that time so I couldn't check-in on the one week mark. When I went in to visit though, they said that it would need another week. Overall though, I really like this place! It's local and the people inside are friendly. They do charge a premium on reeds though.... ordering online is better.

When deciding where to start my then 6 year on piano classes, we did a few trial classes with…read moredifferent places. We initially did our trial with Stella and were sold on her combination of approachability but also discipline. Jane has since become our primary piano teacher. I think it can be challenging to have children do something week after week but Jane is an enthusiastic, loving cheerleader of your child's progress. I also really appreciate that she holds her students to a high standard, emphasizing technical aspects of piano that I think are harder to master for young kids but will ultimately set them up for success. Also, there are tickets given out at the end of each class which can later be exchanged for small gifts and works as a sort of background reward process to keep kids coming back! We've had a great experience so far and hope to enroll our second kid in the upcoming years.
