When my husband bought sneakers recently, the sales person was very attentive. Today I went in ready to spend a gift card, and was ignored. Two young sales women in front stood there chatting about what they were going to wear to a party. I was looking in the nearby shoe department and no one asked me if I wanted anything. I noticed 2 other women totally fending for themselves in the shoe department as if it was Discount Shoes. When I picked out items to try on, I had to seek out a salesperson to help me. Since I had just been to the new LL Bean store, where customer service was excellent, it felt extra weird. I found items I wanted and the cashier was very pleasant, but I might have spent more if I felt someone cared I was there.

I stated the mere fact that the panty hose/tights that they are selling, are in fact, RUN OF THE MILL. They are not designer and are THE EXACT SAME as one would find in a CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid, supermarket, etc. They retail for roughly 6-8 dollars and they charge 34 for them. Those are just plain facts. I also stated that they can clearly do it because they are catering to people in the area, and those items are hard to come by in Stowe given the lack of drugstores. Oh and I don't have a "problem" with the prices of the clothing and shoes. This place is meant to be higher end and I have zero issue with that. My main point was the elevated price of one specific item. That was all. I even mentioned in the beginning of my review how gorgeous the clothes are, those clothes are NOT run of the mill. A simple, polite redirection that the upstairs wasn't open to customers would have sufficed. Instead, the tone was sharp, public, and unnecessarily rude. We apologized and explained we hadn't seen the sign, but he reacted as though we were being dishonest, then proceeded to complain about us to another employee while we were still within earshot--all very awkward and unprofessional. I would strongly encourage the owners to reconsider how customers are approached, as it reflects poorly on an otherwise generic but pleasant shop. Perhaps looking like you've just enjoyed Vermont's outdoors isn't quite the right aesthetic to be treated kindly here. Thankfully, the hike--and The Alchemist--more than made up for it. Our daughter suffers from two forms of arthritis. One is specifically in her knees, and her shoes are crucial. I tried to explain she has two forms of arthritis. He said that's not a big deal no concern. I stated it most definitely is a huge concern and it is a big deal. Look through a bunch of clothing and I had decided we were not going to be buying sneakers that day. We're gonna wait until somebody else with more knowledge would be there and help us. I did poke my head in the back room saw two ladies sitting back there one lady who is black haired glasses on the heavier side, only describing her just so you know to avoid her... snapped at me and stated he's very knowledgeable and went about our business. Put the clothing up on the counter and another man little older came over and said did you need some help and I stated that I did because the first guy was not very helpful at all and he redid all of the evaluation of her legs, her feet to the way she walked, and so on. I explained once again she had the arthritis issues and he said we can definitely put her in the right kind of shoe. We chatted and he said she most definitely needed to be in a neutral shoe. She walked around in it, and it felt comfortable, and we purchased them and a bunch of other clothing. She started running and field hockey with these shoes on, and every day would come home complaining that our cabs were aching. Her legs were hurting. They felt like she was running with blocks on her feet. I googled the type of shoe he put her in and sure enough. It was a stability shoe. She most definitely cannot wear stability. She needed a neutral. I called the store, asking to speak to the store manager or the store owner. The person on the other end stated he was the owner. I said oh good and I explained the whole situation and he said yeah that was me. I helped you I remember you. I said will you put her in a stability issue not the neutral that you said she most definitely needed. He stated oops. I said oops that's not an option, I said you have created some more leg issues that she truly did not need. He said I said oops are you bringing them back or what? I said wow OK, yes I'm bringing them back. He said how long before you'll be here? I said I'll be there shortly. I walk into the store he spotted me, turned around, went and hid in the back room !!!! A very sweet lady short haired brown haired lady with glasses came over and said are you returning these? I said yes I am! she said is everything OK? My response was no everything is not OK. Explain the whole story to her and she said well if you would like to bring her back in I would love to work with you. I said I had you in the beginning. Everything probably would've been different, however, the way that the owner responded and treated me I will never give this man another dime of my money!!! Buyer beware avoid the store ! The lady stated you have a long, huge history of purchasing with us. I said yes we have spent a ton of money here only to be treated like this so I will never be back.!!!

I needed a pair of safety-toe shoes for my line of work & was excited to see that they had a very decent selection to chose from. I was also impressed with the fact that they had larger sizes stocked, that are rare to find/come by in almost all of their women's shoes (I'm a size 11). Best customer service experience!
