Ever since Rosebowl Pizza closed down, I have been looking for a replacement. I received a Roadrunner Pizza flyer in the mail and decided to give it a try.
They have lots of deals going on, including some valid upon pick-up only. A lot of the delivery ones are for 10" pizzas, which they call medium, and I call too small for me. There was variety though- some were multiple pizzas, many came with soda, some came with spring rolls or donairs or chicken wings. You can also get simple 2-for-x-size pizza deals, which is what I eventually went for. One thing I appreciated about these deals was that all the pizzas let you choose three toppings - many other places only let you choose two, which is never enough for me!
They deliver if you order over $16 worth of food, but it wasn't made clear to me if there was a charge for it and I forgot to ask. I'm not sure if they deliver only in certain nearby areas, or the whole city. During a weekend at what I would consider peak dinner time, I was quoted 40-50 minutes for delivery, and my pizza arrived in exactly 45 minutes so that was pretty bang on.
The pizzas I got were 1) Quebec-style all dressed, which is pepperoni, mushroom, green pepper; and 2) salami, bacon, and ham. I also got a baked lasagna with meat sauce which comes with garlic toast and seemed like a reasonable deal at $7.99.
I enjoyed the pizza - it is dense like Rosebowl so you probably won't eat too many slices in one sitting - dough was regular thickness, tomato sauce was good and had herbs in it, the toppings were evenly distributed (even going up onto the crust, which was great because I usually don't like crust on its own) and not skimpy either (loads of cheese... yum!). The green pepper wasn't cut too thick and just cooked, which is the way I like it. The bacon was real, crunchy and chewy, and had a bit of smokiness to it, maybe applewood as there was a touch of sweetness to it. I would have liked the cheese a bit more browned but that is my personal preference.
The lasagna was decent too. It comes in a 6" round aluminum pan, loaded with a layer of cheese and browned nicely. I noticed that they don't use sheets of lasagna noodles, but instead use the ribbon lasagna noodles (mafalda) which were a bit too soft for my liking. The long noodles combined with the fact that it was a bit liquidy (even after sitting a bit longer on my countertop) made it a bit hard to eat. The meat sauce was tasty and obviously homemade (touch of celery, nice) but it wasn't distributed evenly so the parts of the lasagna without sauce were bland. Skip the garlic toast though.. It's made with margarine (I much prefer butter) and really nothing special.
Everything arrived hot so no issues there. I was able to pay by Visa without any problem. The total came to about $2 more than I was expecting so I'm wondering if that was a delivery charge; it wasn't broken down on the handwritten bill. It was still cheaper than Rosebowl, not quite as good but there was nothing offensive about the pizza so I'm pretty sure I will order from them again. Make sure you try their second phone number at 780-488-7945 as they didn't pick up when I tried the first number. read more
