Plenty of stalls and decent price for gas, along with easy in-n-out from the freeway, Road Ranger operates 70 or so gas stations and convenience stops in the Midwest, often partnering with fast food chains for quick meals. This Road Ranger had a Subway as well as a Dixie Family Restaurant. Open 24 hrs, 7 days a week, it was a convenient way to fill up on gas, with easy on/off from I-55 (though there was heavy construction from the entrance, backing up traffic from both sides). read more

If you're on a trip and need fuel, don't stop here unless you waiting for someone to catch up. Pumps are painfully slow. Waited 25 mins for just under 7 gallons. read more

FILTHY restrooms! Ladies room was horribly dirty with obvious DNA from activity which should have taken place in a private setting never stopping there again! ICK! Deserves zero stars read more

Now that the Funk's Grove rest area is closed down, Road Ranger at exit #145 is your best bet for a potty stop between Springfield and Bloomington. Currently, gas prices are pennies cheaper than the options at exit #160 Market St. The best part of Road Ranger is the outdoor sound system that plays commercials between musical selections, or, rather, plays short clips of music between commercials. Like, "Did you know that Ranger offers excellent career opportunities? We promote from within!" Or, "Right now you can get any size coffee and a donut for only $2.49!!" read more

Well 25Yrs. truckin out here and the once mighty original Dixie still here in McClean if in name only. Effingham, Tuscola(my fav) are long gone Haven't honestly stopped here in about 6 yrs prefer TA in Bloomington however thought why not. 1st thing apparant even though the old highway high rise sign still there is the other glaring ones: Road Ranger Pilot and of course gotta stick a Subway in there. What used to make a very cool place was the old cafe and the Rt.66 Il museum. It is gone now located up in Pontiac. There are some old pictures still there on wall but hallway museum now showers and the TV room gone. It is what I would call place just to park not somewhere I would go and look forward to shutting down at. Now that Subway there it is 24 hrs. but the 66 cafe closes at 23:30 as of this posting and food was ok. But while it has been updated it lost some charm. I will give credit to fact that the old bld. that houses cafe is still intact. But like so many changes I have seen truckin the 48 and Canada that mom and pop spirit falling to the big box ones. And the truckstops now travel centers are what they are. read more

This is your averagve trucker stop, we had stopped here on the Megabus but it wasnt as dirty as alot of truck stops ive seen. Road Ranger has pretty places, there is one close to where i live in St Louis and its not bad either! the cashiers are friendly and nice. Nice wide selection of snacks and beverages. read more

I'm just one person, not any different than any other customer. As a customer when I enter any establishment I expect that the employees that work there could help me with any question I have or direct me to the ones who could answer me, and that the employees who are checking customers out at the register, have their full attention on the customer in front of them. Now, if a business DOES NOT train their employees in all areas of their job, it's poor management and their fault for the service the employees provide. My experience with the cashier at Road Ranger today August 11th, around 3 pm was rather disappointing. My husband and I travel through the area 4-8 times a month and this particular Road Ranger is one we stop at a lot. Normally it's really early in the morning, but today it wasn't. It was a high traffic time for a gas station. The problem I had, was there was only one register open with a group of employees standing behind her chit chatting, very frustrating to a customer whose time is also valuable. Making them wait while the others discuss today's happening, be it work related or nit is unprofessional. Gather some other place especially if your off the clock. One lady left the group and opened the second register so I went to her register and put my items on the counter. No greeting, just asked me "if I had everything I needed?" I replied yes. She rang me up, while still listening to the other girls and occasionally looking over at them. I handed her my money and she still continues to look back and forth between them and me. Like she was missing something important, even pausing a few times to add to their conversation, mind you I'm standing there and so is another customer who got in line behind me. It was taking everything I had to not say anything, I just gave a look. She finished counting my change, which she had to double check TWICE because she wasn't even looking at the bills as she was pulling them out. Just assumed they were all in the right change slot I'm sure. She handed my change to me, didn't count it back. Which I'm a firm believer in counting back change, less room for error that way for the customer and the employee responsible for her register at the end of the night count down. She said, thanks have a good day. I replied, "I hope you didn't miss anything, I didn't mean to step up to your register that you opened thinking you were going to wait on me, because you were an employee who cared for your employers customers and their satisfaction after you saw that your co-workers line was backing up......BUT I was wrong Debbie, you were only going through the actions of waiting on me while your ears and eyes were still in that group of girls talking. Truthfully, I would have preferred that you didn't open your register and I had to wait for the one who was doing her job on register one and her full attention was on her customer as it always should be. Just a bit of advice for you to think about, especially when your a customer somewhere. I wasn't loud or anything, just my normal tone, with a stern look though of disappointment, and that's probably why she didn't even reply to me, she was probably shocked. The manager needs to address this if it's a common problem, no employees should ever be gathering behind the register to gossip or talk. It's very distracting to the other workers & customers as well, not to mention unprofessional as a business. I hope I became the new topic of their discussion and maybe just maybe, I might have made a difference and changed the way she does her job and possibly viewed it from a customers perspective.
