I'm a personal fan of asian fusion and seeing the latest restaurant spinoff of classic foods but I couldn't tell what cultures rm212 was trying to meld together. We started off by ordering off their happy menu for drinks and got what the waitress described as a soju drink that tasted like a lemon drop ($6). We asked for the drink to be served neat and it came on the rocks instead. The drink was very diluted and didn't taste like much besides leaving the burning taste of soju as it went down. We got the korean fried chicken, xo string beans, & honey aioli shrimp. Nothing really stood out to me and the food was mediocre at best..on top of that, this is a tapas restaurant so the servings are small and around $12 a plate. The shrimp tasted like normal candied shrimp such as the ones from panda express; they were good but there was no hint of asian fusion and way too expensive for what it was. I was most excited about the kfc as it was the prettiest dish but that was probably my least favorite. The kfc had a weird seaweed aftertaste, was a bit too spicy, and didn't really have the sweetness that I like about the dish. The xo string beans were actually better than expected! They were juicy albeit a little spicy and limp. The restaurant's super tiny and only has maybe 5 tables and is dimly lit with neon fixtures which does make for a cool ambiance but I won't be coming back again. I am not sure how long this location has been open, but I found it as I was walking back to my hotel. Not knowing how long it's been open, it just seemed weird that they were very slow for the work week lunch hour. I realize that there are many options close by, but I was surprised by the lack of traffic. Either way, it worked to my benefit because I didn't have to wait for table and my food came out rather quickly. Their lunch menu seemed very small but well rounded. I ordered the Bulgogi Nachos which were so delicious. I tried to act like a lady with manners by using the large spoon and small plate to consume my food. However, my hunger and excited tastebuds forced me to dig in with my both hands. I'm not upset about this either and don't judge. Nachos to be eaten with your hands anyway. This was also a perfect size for one person and I selfishly would not be able to share this with anyone else. I was also able to indulge in their Mai Tai. The food: - SHRIMP GYOZA (3.5 stars): ordered steamed, though prefer the sauteed crispy version. shrimp was fresh. - CHICKEN GYOZA (4 stars): perfectly sauteed with fresh wonton wrappers, perfectly crispy and bite sized. - TEMPURA COD BAO (5 stars): 2 per order. super tasty, perfectly fried to a crisp but not so that it's super oily and mushy. tasty texture of cod was preserved, and served with a delicious truffle aioli Service is super friendly, I can see this place getting quite crowded. Another Yelp Elite find - ATTENTION! This place is awesome. Came here for lunch after scouting through Yelp. I was attracted to the interesting tapas in the reviews. Funky cool interior, service was fricken awesome (thanks for the shots Patrick!) The Brussel Sprouts were so damn good, pork belly sliders with Hoisin was yummy, Butterfly Fish was mouth melting good, and the shrimp was like candy. I did order the fritters not realizing what they were, more of a dessert item but good. I love it when an owner kicks ass and takes pride in their dishes that they create, Patrick has done this. Korean fusion tapas best enjoyed with can after can of Tecate, because San Francisco! Bulgogi Nachos, Spicy Elote Fritters (more like a sweet corn funnel cake, only a touch denser), Kurobata Bao, Tecate #1, Butterfish Sashimi, Korean Fried Chicken, Chili Green Beans, Tecate #2, Crab Cake Sliders, Honey Aioli Shrimp (their play on Honey Walnut), Tecate #3, Crispy Sprouts, Lamb Dumplings, Sweet Potato Samosas (that tasted like pumpkin pie puff pastry, in an oddly good way), & ... you guessed it, Tecate #4. The food was shared family style (tapas, y'all) between 7 of us, so we doubled down on a couple orders, but we all FEASTED. Then came arguably (cuz the food was pretty dang tasty!) the best part: the Yelp check-in offer, a 2-minute heart to heart with the owner, Patrick, which we all redeemed and combined into a 14-minute hearts to heart that included chatting about the restaurant, the food, our jobs, shots of soju, & lots of randomness. A fun, super friendly food and drink experience from start to finish, and that's what bumps it into that 5-star territory. My long time good friend, and fellow Yelp Elite, told me that I needed to try RM212. She also recommended that I take on the check-in offer of the heart-to-heart with their head chef. I'm a bit more reserved, but I had been meaning to try out this place. My friend and I came on a Tuesday evening, during their happy hour. Between the two of us, we ordered: Butter Fish Tataki ($15.75) - 5 pieces of delicious melt-in-your-mouth butterfish with a crunchy piece of asparagus for texture. It was sweet, smooth, and the truffle oil added a nice layer of complexity. General Chan's Sprouts ($11.95) - Nicely tossed, crispy Brussel sprouts with this caramel sauce. It had a slightly smoky flavor, which was very nice. Sesame Tuna Tacos ($11.75) - 2 soft tacos with generous slices of tuna. The onion, mango salad, and sesame made this very delightful. For the drinks, we got the RM212 Smash, the Pina Sojulada (definitely my favorite), the Good Old Fashion, and the Strawberry Goodness. They were all made very nicely, and fantastic in their own way. Before I left, but after I got the bill, I relayed a message for Anita, "Please tell Ricky and Patrick I said hello." The server went ahead and Ricky and Patrick themselves came over to talk. May be an age thing, but I don't like a restaurant that plays loud music that is full of the "N" word and "F" bomb, just not worth it. Also on my negative items list. If you have a simple menu then make sure that the menus you hand out do not look like they have been used for a hundred years with food spills on them and generally tatty. Your printing them on paper, print extras. Positive item - the Nachos dish was delicious. The samosas, well maybe they were to be served cold, but not what I expected. *Allergy friendly To be perfectly honest, this restaurant wasn't the best option for someone like me with food allergies, but the chef was very accommodating. I am allergic to soy and have a strong food sensitivity to garlic and onions, which of course makes dining in San Francisco pretty unfortunate with all the delicious Asian cuisine out there. RM 212 restaurant bent over backwards to make it possible for me to try a couple of dishes...the elote corn fritters and the pork belly baos. Though the already-limited tapas menu suddenly became really limited, when I think back to what I enjoyed the most about my food it was the different textures in my mouth. The freshly fried elote corn fritters were rich and packed with ooey gooey goodness (but so rich I had to stop after a couple). I quickly became obsessed with the fluffy, marshmallowy texture of the steamed buns that came with my pork belly. It was like biting into a cloud with a bit of substance. It was also a good thing two pork belly baos arrived on my plate, because the pork belly portion was fairly small (especially since I couldn't eat the onions or anything additional they were served with). I realized when writing this review that I must of have forgotten to check in on Yelp, but that didn't matter. The Yelp check in offer for a lovely two-minute conversation with our server (maybe the owner?) still took place. The restaurant was pretty small, but in a good way. Clean bathrooms, and overall ready to deal with those with food allergies. Oh...and they take reservations! Had lunch here yesterday with a group as they were one of the few spots that were both well reviewed AND took lunch resos (and for anyone who has seen the lunch rush in SFO knows... that's GOLD). RM 212 is a smaller space a short walk from the financial district. They offer mostly tapas (shared) Asian ingredient inspired options that are both delicious sounding and delicious tasting. Two members of our group had dietary restrictions (vegetarian, no garlic, no soy, and preferably no onions) all of which can be tough for a mostly Asian cuisine. This was no problem for them, the went to the chef and figured work arounds for our table that allows everyone to have a full and enjoyable meal. Stand out items for me we're the Pork Belly Bao (2 in a serving), the kimchi tater tots, the corn fritters and the General Chan wings. We ordered most of the menu and all the food was pretty good. Prices also were fair for tapas and if I had to pick on one thing it would have been to have a couple more options on the food menu, but really that's it. A bit hard to find and limited seatings, so highly recommend making a reservation (they accept Yelp reservations, I booked one about an hour before on a Friday evening and luckily there were still some open slots. Came with a group of 4. They have a pretty small menu so it wasn't that hard to choose. We just ordered a bunch of things to try. - Bulgogi nachos: these were wonton crisps mixed with some bulgogi meat, cheese, and small bits of vegetables. Pretty tasty, definitely recommend trying this. - Fried chicken: very good. 8 pieces of deep fried chicken wings glazed with some sweet sauce. - Lamb potstickers: decent. Lamb was very juicy. - (Lamb?) rack: decent. The meat was very tender and fell off the bone very easily - Pork bao: delicious, though order was quite small (3 small baos) - Some ceviche-like order with bits of fish and other ingredients, with a small side of chips. This wasn't worth it -- small amount of fish as the other ingredients like jalapenos, onions, cilantro dominated the flavor. We also split a pitcher of Sapporo for the table. My friend and I read such good reviews about the place so we were excited to try the place out. We walked in on a weekday for dinner. The food is Asian fusion tapas. We tried their baos, foie gras wonton, butterfish and crab sliders. Everything was okay. I like the idea of these dishes, good ingredients, interesting sauce, etc. But in reality, the execution just didn't work for me. The foie gras wonton did not taste like foie gras at all. Crab slider had the tiniest patty of crab meat inside, the asparagus in the butterfish was like a brown yellowish color. We also tried some of their cocktails. The drinks tasted great, but were low in alcohol. My friend is the most lightweight person I've ever seen, and gets drunk on 1.5 glasses of wine. But somehow after two martinis, she wasn't feeling buzzed at all. For me that's a good thing but I thought it was worth mentioning. While we were eating, there was also a table of 8 people watching the a basketball game in the restaurant, and they were cheering and yelling as if their first born was playing in the game. So the dining experience was not pleasant at all. I could barely hear my own voice when I was trying to talk to my friend. So I'm not sure what exactly they are trying to be here, a sports bar? a restaurant? We ate as fast as we could and left for another restaurant for drinks and desserts. Overall the food is okay, nothing super special. For a city like sf with so many food options, it does not really stand out. We tried the Jalapeño Fried chicken, Garlic Confit Fries, Lamb Hot pockets and Smash Burger Tacos. Came here the other night to grab some drinks with two good friends of mine. The owners, Patrick and Ricky, are super friendly and went out of their way to provide exceptional service for us. Not only were their drinks delicious (I went with a few glasses of delicious wine - my favorite is anything Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, and my friends went with cocktails/beers), but their food was excellent as well! We ordered two small plates (foie gras wantons and some other dumpling-like dish I can't remember). Anyway, I told them that I wouldn't order any more food because I needed to go home and cook/eat some noodles since it was my birthday and they didn't have noodles on their menu, but later in the evening they surprised me by cooking up a quick bowl of noodles for me (no charge!). They also gave me a few birthday shots. Amazing! In general would 100% recommend sitting at the bar so you can chat with the owners. My team and I visited Rm212 following a coworker's recommendation during a recent San Fran trip. The space is on the cozy side with only 6-8 tables and more of a bar-like vibe than I expected. Not in a bad way, just different. Our meal was a feast to say the least. We kicked things off with Wine and cocktails followed by the following dishes: -cauliflower tapa -pork belly with arugala salad and tomatoes (I would return for this dish alone!) -wonton nachos - wontons made daily in house - topped with cheese, tomatoes, etc. -elotes corn fritter with lime crema (could also work as a dessert- loved the sweetness) The food was delicious from start to finish. Very innovative and flavorful. Also, it was ideal for sharing and hitting all flavor interests. My only complaint would be that the waitress we had was less than friendly. We were excited to hear more about the dishes being served and had to ask what each dish was since she wasn't super communicative or enthused. Great hole in the wall in the neighborhood! Great escape for small bites and drinks. I've been here a few times, cocktails were good though I can't say I remember which ones were my top choices. Soju cocktail comes in clutch for sharing, though it didn't seem very strong. Of the bites I remember sharing: -Lamb Lumpia: intriguing, flavorful. Not your average lumpia at all, but it was good. Not sure I would get it again. -Fried Chicken: This is more of an order of wings than an order of fried chicken. We got the Soy Garlic flavor -- delicious! I've had RM 212 bookmarked on my yelp for a little while now and I'm so happy I took the time to finally pop by for an end of the work week cocktail. Walking up to the door "Happy Hour All Day" greeted me. Win! We sat at the bar and the bartender, Patrick, was super cool. All the cocktails on the menu looked super delicious hence us ordering 7 of them by the end of the night. I recommend the lychee sojutini or strawberry goodness (so yummy!) especially if you're not much of a strong drinker. Patrick was great to explain how he made all the syrups in house. Each cocktail was very thoughtfully crafted. For food we got the wings and corn fritters. Great flavors and served hot. The chef, Ricky, even took the time to say hi and check in on us. Delightful! A coworker and I made a lunch reservation unwittingly during the Belgium-France World Cup semis and boy, was it packed. Even so, Patrick (the owner) seated us promptly. The menu featured tapas-style dishes from around the world making it difficult to choose just a few dishes for two people. The Chicken Tikka Nachos were the stars of the meal with a creamy chicken tikka masala served on top of crispy wonton chips. I also enjoyed the novelty of sweet potato stuffed samosas paired with truffle cilantro chutney. After the lunch rush ended, Patrick came by to chat and recommended a few of their popular cocktails. We ordered the notorious Piña Sojulada and the Lychee Sojutini. Both were unique and vibrant - definite must-have's during their daily happy hour. During restaurant week RM 212 showed their true colors of serving average food with below average service. Not only is most the food average it also is in tiny portions. Waiter heavily pushed alcohol and had little regard for allergies as they served a complimentary shot with Nutella in it. When we first asked what was in the shot, she said it was a "surprise." Even though we previously told the waiter about nut allergies earlier in the service, she obviously was flippant about the conditions. Edit: I actually specifically asked if there were nuts when we ordered the preset meal due to an allergy. I don't think giving someone a pack of benedryl and saying sorry while charging 20% mandatory tip is the right way to make things right. Lets start with the location, right at start of Chinatown and this place was probably a dive before, the brick interior is nice but the furniture is cheap and the plastic plates even more so, laminated menu says we don't care about local ingredients or changing things up. The food was what really disappointed, and with trying 5 dishes that was about 1/3 of the menu. Overpriced and underwhelming! Papaya salad- half was carrots, everything seemed limp and the peanuts were stale, dressing seemed off too Cauliflower poppers- crispy outside but doughy and undercooked inside, also could not taste the cauliflower Crab sliders-best dish of the night, crab could be chunkier and less filler Tataki- was a good portion and nice flavor but could have used a pairing Foie gyoza- this is a waste of foie , could not tell what the filling was but what killed it was the terribly thick dough that was sticky, if you can't make gyoza in an Asian place With two drinks our bill was $100 with tip, overpriced for the food and experience. read more

So talk food to me! - Foie gras gyozas? Plump, meaty gyozas that melt in your mouth with a subtle hint of foie gras! And well balanced with the touch of mango in the sauce. - Butterfish? Smooth cut slices of butterfish wrapped around asparagus. The truffle oil and ponzu sauce though was the steal of the show. Came here for dinner with a friend and ordered the uni carbonara udon and duck kimchi fried rice. Udon: 3/5 - very rich and tasty, but a bit lacking in portion size for me for $20. I compare this to udon mugizo, which is roughly the same price by literally 3x amount of food. Duck fried rice: 4/5 - also a bit pricey but delicious!! It came with lots of meat and a huge sunny side up egg. I liked this dish better. The chef was nice and came out to ask for feedback after the meal. They call their food as 'tapas' which sounds cool but actually all the food we ordered taste horrible. RM212 Fried Rice tastes the WORST, very oily, taste like burnt garlic, yuck!!! The Butterfish Tataki is full of butter (because the name is butterfish they should not think they should put tons of butter on it, or is it not fresh at all that's why the smell needs to be covered by lots of butter??) The Chive Crab Sliders were presented really sloppy, full of red cabbage and mayonnaise, tiny bit of crabs, the bread was a very cheap nasty bread. I am incredibly disappointed by this experience and I would not recommend this place. I visited on 11/11/19. I ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp and the fish fillet sandwiches. The bacon wrapped shrimp was more burnt bacon than anything else. The shrimp inside was tiny and gummy. The fish fillet sandwiches had so much breading they were nearly inedible. It hurt my teeth to bite into them. There was almost no fish and what was in there was dry and overcooked. They claim to be Asian fusion, but the only Asian part of either dish was a small amount of kimchi on the sandwich. I was also offered a virgin beverage by my server because I told her I was not interested in ordering alcohol. I ordered one but was shocked when my checking that I was going to be charged the full price of the beverage with alcohol. If that's the policy, fine, but for me it was the icing on the cake to round out a bad experience. read more

They have happy hour all night and I think the happy hour menu changes quite often. When we went they had wine for $7, drinks such as cucumber gin and yuzu vodka for $6 and truly's + a shot for $10. We ordered off their regular menu just to try some of their speciality cocktails. We got the soju coloada, the lychee martini and the gimlet. The drinks were all really good and $12 each. For food we ordered the adobo poutine which was to die for! The potatoes were crispy on the outside but fluffy in the inside. The sauce and toppings all tied together nicely to create the perfect dish. We also ordered the lamb lumpias which I was not a big fan of. I usually like lamb but these lumpias had this extremely strong smell and taste that wasn't pleasant. Lastly we ordered the curry Mac and cheese which wasn't flavorful or cheesy at all. I had the chicken wings, loco moco poutine, and their nachos. The fried wontons on the nachos were too much. After a few bites, the greasiness started to overtake the whole dish. The Loco moco poutine dish was nothing special. Chicken wings were probably the best dish. There wasn't really much to choose that was light and fresh to balance out some of the stronger flavor dishes. Favorite part was the server after bringing my plum sake. She asked us if we ever tried it because she hated it. We didn't but weren't going to say anything. Thanks... Anyway yeah it's cheap but my point was, since it's cheap I don't mind it either tasting not so great OR having a smaller portion. What I had was bad on BOTH portion size and taste. Rather than spending time on a snarky response, why don't you focus on making your food better all across the board and not only for regular customers? Or do you stand by your view that MealPal customers should just suck it up because they didn't pay full price? The Teriyaki Chicken Rice Bowl I got from them through MealPal was BAD. Rice was hard, they most likely reheated cold hard rice from the fridge to make warm hard rice. Portion was small. I know I'm getting my meal at a discount through MealPal so restaurants need to control cost, but Sushirrito can do it, The Meatball Bar can do it, why can't RM 212? Sushirrito made a smaller version of their regular roll that still tastes great, The Meatball Bar's MealPal lunch boxes is small but delicious, but RM 212's MealPal lunch box is small AND tasted worse than me reheating leftover rice in the microwave. Never again, wouldn't even try them out as a regular customer because the experience left such a bad taste in my mouth (figuratively and literally). On the other hand I like Sushirrito so much that I often get their other menu items not available through MealPal. Edit: do a search for "MealPal" within their reviews, almost all of them are bad. I guess they shouldn't participate in MealPal if they're not going to maintain their quality. I came here for lunch one day and luckily, it was just a short walk from the office. It's a fairly small place, but had a nice modern interior. I got the Breakfast Baos and share the kimchi tater tots. The kimchi tater tots were really good as I love crispy tots. The sauce and the kimchi on top added good flavor to it too. Since I wasn't super hungry, I got the breakfast baos for my main meal. It included pork belly, egg and cheese. It was good, the bread was soft and the pork belly was tender. When I saw that the waitress wasn't writing down my order, I knew we wouldn't get what we ordered. I even noted it to my bf and predicted that she'd get something wrong. The first dish that showed up was something we contemplated ordering but then ended up not wanting. Then we waited for another half an hour for the one thing I really did want to try and flagged her down. Of course, she didn't put that order in. I had even said that dish twice because I sensed she'd forget the first dish we ordered. She felt bad for forgetting it and brought us free shots which was nice but we really didn't want those and ended up not finishing them. As for food, everything was just okay. Really nothing special. I believe they change their menu a lot because everything I wanted to order wasn't on the menu and instead there were just a lot of heavy cheese and greasy meat options. With all the rave reviews, I expected much more from RM 212. A friend and I met up here for Happy Hour around 5pm and I was surprised that there was really not much special being offered during Happy Hour time. We each had a glass of wine and shared some Bulgogi Nachos. The nachos were good but it had too much going on. I appreciate places that keep evolving but the constantly changing menu here makes it difficult to know what is good. Really enjoyed this Asian tapas place. Food was excellent and the service very good. I recommend sitting at the bar for good interaction with the chefs. Chef Chan will come out, take your order, and talk to you about the food. Even thought there was a waitress, the chef still come out to check on things and follow up with the bar patrons. I had the asparagus wrapped in seared butterfish. Very fresh sashimi like plate splashed with olive oil. I could have eaten another dish or two! Next was the crab puffs. I had to ask ahead of time if they were bready, and Chef Chan said no not at all. He said he uses blue crab because it is sweeter than the local dungeness and that the stuffing is mostly crab with no bread. Only the crust is made of bread crumbs. It was so good! Wine selections were good to. I had the Sauv Blanc which went well with my dishes. Prices were fair for the food quality and service received. I'm a fan. They only take reservations for parties of 3 or more, so for a reservation of two (my case), I called and they told me I should be fine for walk-in around 6 pm. Even so, we grabbed the last table! Half the place was bought out by a much larger party, so I recommend calling ahead to see what the dealio is for the night you want to go. I was greeted by Chef Ricky, who you can tell REALLY cares about his customers' experience. The menu rotates periodically, and his dishes are amazing! He was super attentive, and was the one who served us all our dishes. 1) Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings - Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. I'm actually not a huge fan of wings because I've had bad experience with bony ones (what's the point?), way too saucy ones, and too much batter ones. These wings were the perfect size, that did not have an immense amount of meat you question the chickens (luv you Chick fil a but I always feel this way). The chicken wings were topped with XO garlic relish, which added a delicious kick. 2) Sweet Potato Samosas - OMG this was so amazing! NEVER have I had samosas that are as flaky as these. The texture reminded me of really good Napoleon cake - I am in love with the craftsmanship of these. Each bite was buttery but not oily. The filling consisted of a sweet potato mash with peas, and the chutney dipping sauce added the Indian spices that contrasted nicely with the slight sweet flavor from the sweet potatoes. 3) Gambas Al Ajillo (Prawn) Tacos - Chef Ricky told us to enjoy every bite by spreading the coconut cream onto the prawns. HOLYYYY Ricky is amazing with pairing flavors!! I would've never thought of coconut and paprika prawns together. The butteryness of the coconut against the crispy juicy prawns with the YUZU slaw was a party in my mouth. I'm glad he told me to enjoy it bite by bite or else it would've been gone in 2 seconds. Cute place in Fidi/bordering Chinatown so parking is limited. Great ambiance - I can see why a group of people will rent it out for events. They have a bar in the back but they don't serve hard liquor - only sake, beer, wine, soju, etc. COME EARLY (or make a reso) as this place is packed, with good reason. Mealpal lunch review - looked at the reviews and I was super excited to try this place out - total bummer. Walked in about 1:30 and the place was completely empty. There was a girl outside trying to get customers to come in with a garlic noodle special (that should have been a warning in itself). Pre-ordered the teriyaki chicken bowl from mealpal ..it was pretty much all rice, 2 pieces of chicken. To top it off, there was a small piece of hair outside the container under the "RM212 sticker." Not worth it all! Can't believe they charge almost $14 bucks for it! The girl working there wasn't friendly at all..asked her if they had any spicy sauces and her immediate response was nothing comes with mealpal. RM 212 is definitely the spot in Chinatown for cocktails. They have a decent selection of drinks, ranging from flavored soju, unique cocktail mixes, spirit infused sake, wine and more. I loved that their cocktails are more so on the flavorful and fruity side. My group and I tried the wings (gochuchang and soy garlic) and they were the star of the show! They were essentially salt and pepper wings with a dipping sauce. So delicious! The wings were cooked crispy and hot. We ordered a bacon wrapped shrimp and the Asian peanut noodles too. Both were a little too heavy for my taste buds. The bacon shrimp skewer was too heavy handed with the bacon -- we could barely taste the shrimp! The Asian peanut noodle was tasty but the peanut sauce was overflowing. Ambience was loud yet cozy. Service was friendly and relatively efficient!
