Luneta Park, also known as, Rizal Park was one of my favorite highlights throughout my trip to the Philippines. I expected that all there was to this park was the monument of Jose Rizal. Little did I realize there was so much to do, especially during the evening. The park feels very patriotic, with many flags of the Philippines around the park and the huge monument of Rizal in the center. Rizal was famously known as the "national hero" of the Philippines, whose political and literary writings inspired the Philippine Revolution against Spanish colonization. The monument is guarded by military members (I think based on their suits), and the park is well-watched by many park security (their hub is at the Aguinaldo house further into the cool park). After taking in the views and taking many pictures, if you walk further into the park for a minute, there are food vendors! Whether you are craving different types of BBQ, fresh juices, mango with bagoóng (fermented shrimp paste), live music from people who sing SO good, and much more, it is a great place to eat. A lot of the food was around 50-75 pesos which ranges from 75 cents to 1.75 USD. There is a huge water fountain that puts on a show with different colors and water patterns that go along with music blasted from speakers. It is a vibe and so adorable with so many people that surround the fountain singing out loud to the music. There are many shopping vendors and most definitely a lot of people that will approach you to sell items for purchase. I love the live music from people as every person that performs honestly is SO good and they play their music too. This place truly is a gem!

Been to Manila several times over the years. Last February was the first time that I ever visited Rizal Park in Manila. Thanks to our friends for inviting us to join them. The sisters wanted to recreate a childhood photo that was taken of them 50 years earlier at this same park. It was great to watch them have fun reminiscing and recreating those childhood memories at this pretty and historic park. This large park is named after the country's national hero. No, I am not talking about Manny Pacquiao. Dr. José Rizal is the Filipino hero. Unfortunately, we did not have enough time to fully explore this urban park. Definitely need to return.

Rizal Park, and the Jose Rizal National Monument are a must visit when you come to Manila. Jose Rizal is so revered bc his writings in support of Philippine independence fr Spain sparked a revolution. The Spanish feared Jose Rizal so much that they executed him. Jose Rizal traveled to Europe where his writings were also revered. There are statues of him in Spain & Germany, as well as other parts of the world. The other things in the park pale in comparison to the Jose Rizal monument and execution site. Spend some time here if you come to Manila, then walk across the street for a drink or meal at the classic Manila Hotel.

I'll try to keep my thoughts on American education and how it ignores just about the entire other side of the world out of this review. Infuriating that American, European, and learning about the Middle East is about as far as our educational system goes. Teach us more about the EAST! I didn't know much about Rizal other than his name pops up around the Philippines and then there is this park dedicated to him. José Rizal is considered a hero in the Philippines. He only lived to be 35. I say lived but he likely would've lived much longer had he not been executed. He spoke out about the colonization by Spain and pushed for political reforms. Eventually, he was executed by the Spanish for his rebellion. The park takes up a large area. The main area has a pond, a few statues/art pieces, places to sit, a flag, and a monument dedicated to him. In the main area, there also seem to be dozens of people trying to get you to take a tour of more of Manila(but I'll talk about that sales tactic more in my Boracay review). I understand the grind but those people pushing for you to take various tours do take away from the main area of the park. There are other things to see in the park itself including a Chinese garden(nice and peaceful), a Japanese garden(Could use some renovation), and most notably the area where Rizal was executed. There was a school group there at the execution site along with a few local tourists but I was stunned by how quiet it was being right in the middle of busy Manila. The site also includes statues of Rizal being shot and the soldiers from that day. Oh... that's another thing. Rizal wasn't just executed... he was executed by firing squad. I appreciate that the history isn't censored. The statues at the execution site get the point across on how brutal that day was. If you're in Manila, I'd make this a stop if you've never been. I think we were there for about 30-45 minutes so it won't take your entire day unless you want to relax in one of the gardens. Side notes: Because of where this park is positioned, you have easy access to the aquarium to the west, numerous historical sites to the north, and various museums to the east/northeast. You could hire a trike or jump on a jeepney but it's easily walkable.

US history, but of course, European history - yeah sure. Black history, shared daily. Mexican history, intertwined with Cali and TX history. But Philippine history, say what?? Is that taught anywhere here?? So I actually had to read up on my roots to get a sense of who I am. Dr. jose Rizal would have to be the most famous Philippine hero. He resisted Spain's colonialism which lasted 300+ years. He was killed by firing squad by the way, which is really a gangsta way to go out. The tourists enjoy coming to this park, to check out the Rizal monument. There's a gigantic flag pole and Philippine flag and that bright shiny sun to go along with your walk as you check out different parts of the park. There's a really nice Chinese garden with pond but the Japanese Garden section needs to be upgraded. With all of the hustle and bustle in Manila, this park is actually kinda peaceful.

This is one of the historical park in the Philippines also known as Luneta Park, it was located in Ermita, Manila. The park was named after The National Hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal. This park has a lot to tell about the history itself. Luneta or Rizal park at night

This place is an iconic park located in the heart of Manila formerly known as Bagumbayan is rich in history. Widely known as Luneta Park, Rizal Park is the place where Philippine national hero Dr. Jose Rizal was executed in 1896. This is one of the most significant landmarks in the Philippines and is also recognized as the Philippines' main kilometer zero. The best place for family and friends to gather together and enjoy outdoor activities for free.

Nice park with many attractions and sites in Manila, as it is mostly known for where Jose Rizal was executed and is now buried at. We came here for a day to visit many of the sites within, as it's a good walk and way to spend much of the day in. The park is very large and has many sites here, including the National Library, museums and galleries, international gardens, and where you can see Rizal's monument and where his remains lie. Though many of the sites within do have an additional fee, the park itself is a place to visit, to learn more of the Philippines' history and get a sense of the community here. I recommend for anyone visiting for the first time to visit the visitor's center in the park, where the friendly staff can help direct you to what sites to see and provide a map of where to go since the park is very large. Rizal Park is a tourist trap though. Many of the vendors in the park are selling souvenirs, snacks, and people are aggressively asking you if you want additional tours and so forth. Much of this is around the comfort rooms, which you have to pay for to use. The park is walking distance to other historic sites, including the National Museum, Intramuros, Ocean Beach, etc... It was actually hard for us to get a taxi out, but finally found one once we walked to the street and waved a taxi down. For first-time visitors and tourists, Rizal Park is a great place to visit to learn more about the country's history.

Awesome park! Lots of history here. Definitely worth visiting if you're visiting Philippines, whether it's day time or night. During the day, you can set foot where history happened. One of Filipino's heroes was killed at that location. The huge statue at the front of the park, that's him! At night, you can experience the awesome music water fountain. They play American music along with Filipino music. It gets crowded but because the park is huge, you'll still have a place to stand or sit to enjoy the show. There is also a really nice children playground there but there was an admission charge. However, it's pretty cheap to get in. There are still numerous people hanging out (although the number of fishermen seems to have decreased significantly; perhaps they migrated to the area beside Harbor Square).
