I've witnessed this inspiring escape from everyday routine :)
    Danyella P.

This park is a green oasis in the heart of Makati's Central Business District. Surrounded by skyscrapers and traffic jams, it's like a refuge where people go exercising, dancing, reading or just relaxing. During the day, we see lots of children playing around. At night, the park becomes a jogging place. It's amazing to see how the filipinos love to run outdoors! Something that always works good on photos is the city's slogan set in the middle of the park. The colorful letters remind the visitors: "Make it happen, make it Makati". We can feel this festive atmosphere on the events that take place in Ayala Triangle Gardens, like free concerts or the Christmas Festival of Lights. Besides the great open space, the park has also a nice food court with different kind of restaurants: Japanese, Italian, Filipino and so on. My favourite ones are Poco Deli; Amici (Italian) and Tomakaze (Japanese). Cara Mia's ice-cream is also a must-try while relaxing after a hard day of work.

The Ayala Triangle puts on a Light Show every December.

It's often said that there aren't enough parks in Metro Manila. At least there's this one right smack in the middle of the Makati Business District. It's a breath of fresh air amidst all these intimidating corporate buildings. It's a flat garden space with a never ending supply of joggers (especially at night when it isn't too hot) and relatively well-behaved people thanks to the roaming guards. (I mean, no litterers and seldom any unwanted beggars or like.) It also has a handful of restaurants, like Coffee Bean, Amici, Golden Spoon, Kanin Club, BreadTalk and few others. In this case, outdoor seating is preferred because it's great to enjoy meals with a full view of the park! Every December, the park puts on a grand lights show for the public, making it a popular Christmas destination in Makati. Anyone can just drop by the park! Ayala Triangle Gardens is a great place to sit back and relax, walk your dog, read a book, or just relax under the shade of a tree.

Who said Makati just has buildings? We have a huge park, too. Ayala Triangle is probably most know for its light show which happens every December. Nearing Christmas Day, you'll notice many people staying behind in Makati to catch a glimpse of dancing lights and happy songs. Some who watch have been going for years. Others travel from other cities just to see the lights. This is what this park is all about. It brings people together for whatever reason. During the day you'll see people having a picnic on the grass. Students visit this park to practice their dance for school or to snap some pictures. You'll see families eating at the restaurants in the park while their pets play catch. There are groups of people who exercise together. While there are also friends who just walk around sharing stories and catching up.

Ayala Triangle is well known as a date place: i'ts right in the heart of Makati, offers a variety of food options while you get to enjoy a stroll surrounded by trees and grass. By the time Christmas comes along, lights are hanging off on every branch of the tree. Literally. And while it's touted as having one of the best light shows in the world-- I thought it rather gaudy, excessive and nearly epilepsy inducing. Still, people come and watch, filling the expansive triangle. As I said before, I'm a big fan of open, public, green spaces, and it's such a shame that part of Ayala Triangle is already sold to become yet ANOTHER mall with residential spaces on top of it (as if the Glorietta, SM, Greenbelt and Landmark just a block away isn't eonugh!) So go and visit the Triangle before it's turned into another block of concrete. :(

In one of her ig posts, my cousin who was completing her internship at a law firm in Tower One once loosely said Ayala Triangle is our city's Central Park. I am not just about to debunk this because yes, it is. And in a cruel way, its size comparison to the grand mother of all city parks is indicative of so many other things about us and our position in the world. But then, what ATG lacks in expanse, it makes up with exuberance. Imagine, this small triangular block sprawled in the middle of three major avenues actually housing the country's stock exchange, corporate offices, a strip of popular restaurants, a fine dining restaurant that used to be the country's primary commercial air traffic control tower, a public parking space, a giant sakayan (or bus stop, but I think we could all agree that the english counterpart doesn't quite capture the chaos that has something to do with Manila rush hour), and a public active park. That is the Philippine economy right there, represented in a small a plot of land. But this review is specifically about the sidewalks that coast along the block, which almost nightly offers itself to be my running path. I have already said it - if losing weight is a bitch, then keeping the weight off is an even bigger bitch, and having this place to run on situated right in the heart of corporate Makati is a privilege. After applying the mind and fingers the entire day, it's time for the rest of the body to actually move too. Let's begin with some particulars: it takes around 8 rounds to complete my 10k target. The pavement is some parts hard concrete, some parts heavy duty tiles, in a short stretch it's tiny pebbles cast in cement - none of these is an ideal running surface, so please do not scrimp on your choice of running shoes. Remember, you are not just paying for those shoes, you are paying for The Run, your knees and the number of years you may still be able to enjoy this. All this said, to me, doing laps around ATG is hardcore city running. It is quite literally the real-life equivalent of the game app Temple Run where the most challenging stage is the part in front of Ayala Avenue where the strip becomes the sakayan. To be honest, there is strange excitement to it, weaving my way around the stoic and impatient crowd. I tell you, difficulty level is not for a beginner and there will certainly be consequences should you slam against one of the bystanders. (Luckily, this hasn't happened to me yet.) And since we are right smack in the middle of the city, the air is not country-side fresh. Let's just say breathing here deems it useless for anyone to abstain from smoking. Also, running along the bustling streets is tantamount to front row seats to the show that is road rage, complete with all the honking and hankering motorists throw at each other whilst desperately stuck in heavy traffic. (Thank god for Spotify.) I know none of these actually sound positive but you know, I'd have to say that ATG is awesome. Yes, ATG FTW. It's not really huge, the air is not nearly as fresh as any of its patrons deserve but then, at the end of the day (literally), I am a quintessential city boy with fitness requirements.

In my pursuit of finding green spaces in the midst of the high rises and concrete jungles here in Makati I stumbled upon the Ayala Triangle Gardens. Situated almost at the Philippine Stock Exchange and surrounded by large local and MNC banks, this place is definitely an oasis in the midst of desert. The Ayala Triangle Gardens is inspired by the many public spaces, parks in many parts of the world such as the New York's Stanley Park. The park measures around 20,000 square meters and is a home to over 100 trees and tropical foliage. The park has something for everyone in the family including your pets. The green space is a perfect alternative to the malls all over the city. You can jog, skate, exercise, perform, walk or just do nothing here. The well maintained garden and artistically manicured plants are a perfect treat for your eyes. The patches of grass on sides of the walking track are a great place for a cheap and quality outing. Lined with restaurants, coffee shops you don't have to go anywhere looking for food. The park provides a welcome change in the form of a peaceful environment for all the people working in the vicinity who want to break away from their cubicles;) You can hone your artistic skills as well in the open spaces with a live audience encouraging your skills!! Pets are allowed in this park, which is kind of an exception as compared to other parks. So what are you guys waiting for: wear your jogging shoes, pick up your skating boards or just grab a mat and chill around!!

This time around, the plan seems to be to add a small road nearly in the middle, big enough to fit a car. This does, needless to say, look like it will definitely be far from attractive when all the work is done. Some things, however, have stayed the same. There are still numerous people hanging out (although the number of fishermen seems to have decreased significantly; perhaps they migrated to the area beside Harbor Square). The various stalls selling a plethora of items to eat, drink and wear are still present. The ubiquitous dogs are also still very much around as are the many cats (a personal favorite) that seem to make their home in the area beside the Manila Yacht Club. Come at the right time of day (early morning or late afternoon, to be precise) and you'll encounter swarms of joggers and dog walkers.
