When people observe their surroundings in a park, they may often forget to look at other people. True, when observing the small Salcedo Park, you can see what seems to be newly asphalted roads, and the fact that half of it is a parking lot. However, what makes the park fascinating is the colorful playground and the children with their parents and guardians. Apparently, a lot of foreigners live in the area, as it is evident that the people who frequented this park when I visited seemed not to be Filipinos, or at least gave off a more foreign appeal. Their children, so playful and innocent, were running around on the obstacles of the fixed playground, or having fun on the swing, and it is clear that their innocence and laughter is what makes the park what it is. I can't imagine the park being lovely if it wasn't for the children. There are other bigger parks in Makati, or parks with a more calming or exciting nature, but this small park serves its purpose well for the tiny ones who are celebrating their youth and playfulness under the watch of their elders. Indeed, the park isn't always defined by its features, but it can also be seen by the people it draws into its fold. read more
