I was an employee there for a short time and the residents are well taken care of and there is consistently enough staff. I had the time to really care for the residents and did not have to rush or cut corners. I loved getting to know the residents there and there was maintenance 24/7 to fix any issues. That is certainly not typical in my experience!! There are nurses and aides staffed around the clock. I would give a five star review but I was basically fired for hearsay. Someone claimed I said something which was far from what I actually did say and instead of hearing my side of the story, the DON fired me instead of attempting to mediate the issue. I never called out and was always on time and took great care of my residents. so the fact that I got fired was completely shocking to me. it was disheartening because there were a lot of residents that told me I was great. I still recommend the facility to people looking for homes for their loved ones because I know what a great place it is. read more

Really? Birch Hill is a Continuing Care Retirement Community in the northwest corner of Manchester, NH. It's a quiet, clean place with a kind staff. If you are in the independent living unit, you won't be bothered by anybody, unless you ask for help. Because these are exceptional days due to a pandemic, we are severely restricted from any activity outside our own apartments. My father was in the hospital and then a rehab facility. He had a wound on his heel and Birch Hill refused to let him back in because "they could not meet his needs". This expensive retirement home boats all level of care. With our elderly population's high incidence of diabetes, why can't Birch Hill take back a resident of over two years with a wound????? My recommendation to anyone looking at buying into a place like this is to beware. They cam refuse to let you back in after a hospital stay. I haven't read the contract, but I am sure they have legally covered themselves. My father died in a rehab place, not around the friends he had made during the time he lived at Birch Hill. After researching several CCRCs a year and a half ago I moved from Connecticut to Birch Hill, a vibrant retirement community. I experienced a warm welcome from residents and staff alike. I especially like the fact that everything is in one building - a beauty shop, housekeeping and maintenance services, a tavern, country store and physician services. Daily shuttle service for appointments and shopping is available for the day I can no longer drive. I seldom miss an opportunity to associate with other residents. It might be in the dining room where a restaurant-style meal is served daily. I am happy with the meals and menus which offer a variety of choices. Another time friends and I might join an exercise or yoga class in the newly designed fitness center. Every month there are movies and programs to choose from. A full calendar of trips are frequently scheduled to local theaters, restaurants and musical performances. Birch Hill is a pet friendly community. I was attracted to the country-like setting offering twenty-nine acres of natures finest where I can walk my dog or join a morning nature walk with friends. The community is minutes away from major shopping, local attractions, a university and community college yet surrounded by evergreens, birch trees, wildflowers and walking trails making for a tranquil setting I love. For me there is peace of mind knowing I'll be well cared for in a friendly, family like environment where residents and staff care for each other knowing what happens to one of us happens to all of us. read more

High pressure to sign up and get in...only to be told you have to have $700,000 to be able to move in to 600 square feet of living space. They didn't bother to tell my mom this the whole time they were hustling to get her in, and then the sales manager said she didn't "know the prices had recently increased"....it was shameful the way it played out . It left a bad feel for "non-profit" corporations in my mind. I have no desire to have my mother live in a place where she is not only stuck, but sucked dry of all she's worked hard for. If they are caught in this big a lie before ever setting foot in the door, I can't imagine what else they don't bother to disclose. read more

"I should have moved into Birch Hill several years ago. I love it here. This is my home now." Quotes from my 88 year "young" mother who sold her condo and moved into Birch Hill about 6 months ago. Birch Hill is an extraordinary facility which is part of The Riverwoods Group organization. My mom has a large circle of friends at the facility. "Everyone is so friendly", she comments. Mom participates in several daily programs offered by the facility including strengthening and balance exercises with her "coach" Bernadette whom mom loves. Mom even takes a Tai Chi class! Mom looks forward to activities like game night, movie night, dancing, knitting group, concerts and more. Birch Hill provides "community" for mom and peace of mind for our entire family. Mom is thriving at Birch Hill. We can't thank the staff and organization enough! Visit and get to know the facility and the staff. You won't be disappointed. read more

Bottom line is they mostly only want your money. Once your loved one gets in there they know the got you. Rates go up and up and up and there is no discussion. Ice cold water runs through their veins. After 14 years I moved her out when her rent kept rising. There was no compassion or empathy or discussion. I am absolutely shocked at their cold heartless approach. read more

My parents lived at Birch Hill and were so happy there that after they passed I became a volunteer. I am now chair of the Board of Trustees. I have met and gotten to know many residents at all levels of care: independent, assisted, memory unit and long term care, who love Birch Hill. I look forward to living there with my husband one day. read more
