This was a such a fun and easy activity to do in Tampa. We were able to drive our own boat and went see some of the beautiful houses along the bay for about an hour. The staff made it really easy to rent the boat and explained all the safety precautions really well. Jason, the owner, went above and beyond in customer care. The regular hourly rate for the hydro bikes is $30 for one hour, but my friends and I paid $25 because they offer a discount for educators, students, military, etc. I recommend taking off your shoes and putting them in the compartment on the bikes along with your belongings like a purse or your phone. There is also a cupholder so I was able to hydrate while biking. The staff was really personable and talked to us about safety, how difficult it would be to tip over, and general biking tips. It was a lot of fun and quite affordable! The hour on the water in 90-degree weather allowed us to bike to the lighthouse that maybe was a mile south and back (so 2 miles roundtrip), which I feel like had to have been a workout that burned at least 500 calories. It was more work than I thought but we got some great photos of us all biking in different directions. You also want to watch out for boats on the water, and should plan to bike closer to each other than spaced out across the water, it makes it hard for them to navigate between you and your friends. Would definitely recommend doing this activity with your friends if you come to Tampa! read more

I liked that I could stand on the bike, being a bigger girl, and not have a fear of toppling over in Hillsborough river. I loved seeing the university of Tampa in a different vantage point. We had an amazing time exploring the area with these fun boats. We went on Mother's Day and rented 2 boats. My wife took one of our kids and I took the other. The boats are super easy to drive. You really don't need any experience and the staff do an excellent job at orienting you. You must be 18 to rent and drive one. We rented the boats for 1 hour. I would definitely do 2 hours next time. You have to go slow in the immediate area and takes a bit of time to get out to the bay where you can open it up. That was super fun. We rented the 15HP boats and it was more than enough power for us. I'm sure if we rented the less powerful boats we have had just as much fun. We will definitely be doing this again soon. It was a lot of fun, but we want more time to explore up the Hillsborough River and spend more time speeding around the bay. You won't be disappointed. read more

I want to start with how fun this experience was! It was a great way to do something not involving food or drink in the Tampa area while I was visiting. However, it was rather different than expected. From the stock photos, it appeared to be on a rather calm, narrow part of the river. But it was not, the starting point was in a large space where four different waterways met which meant lots of waves from larger boats which made pedaling difficult and lead to our shoes getting wet. The price was affordable, $26 for an hour with my student ID. Great views of the city and I would definitely do it again on a cooler day. read more

First off, for Yelpers, you get 10% off so remember to check in! It covers the tax and that's about it but anything is better than paying 100% right? At first, we missed this place because it wasn't labeled or marked so we went to the right of the convention center but it's to the left at the dock. I've never been to the dock so I had no idea. We walked up to the dock and met the employee there and she was friendly. She took my card and ID in case we decided to run off with the water bikes but that was understandable. They had bike covers so you're not sitting on a super hot seat so that was neat. She also offered us a water bottle at no charge and gave us a quick demo and safety rules to go over. There is a place to put your phone and wallet so that was awesome and I didn't have to worry about it getting wet. We took off and man, it was nice! Well, at least for the first half and then we got to the University of Tampa and was already tired. It's definitely a workout and it was a hot day, low 90s but the sun was definitely out. Even with the bike seat at the lowest setting, it got uncomfortable so we had to keep standing from time to time. We only did 30 minutes but the lowest time is an hour. I couldn't wait to get back to the dock! It's definitely once in a lifetime opportunity that I won't be doing again but you have to definitely do it once! read more

The overall explanation was good and fun. But getting started was really frustrating. Specifically, the website said to go to slip 16 but we couldn't find the slip. After searching for 30 minutes, we called the company and got directions. The signs showed that the slip was near number 26. The staff didn't seem to care! After getting into the small boat, the instructions were far from helpful. Once were got on the water in the Tampa harbor and Hillsborough River, we had 2 hours of fun. We were in town for a day, and I wanted to do the riverwalk (required by law to accomplish if in Tampa). BUT...didn't look forward to walking in the hot sun. I originally walked over to the waterfront to see about getting on a bigger boat, but then saw Riverwalk Boating....and HAD to check it out. Turns out it was easy as hell to get on the water...immediately. The wife and I hopped in, and headed out to the bay for a few minutes (primarily to check out the phenom homes). Then we turned around and headed up river, soaking in the scenery (including a high school that looks like a prison. But to be far, for students, it feels that way anyways, so why not? But I digress). After hitting what I felt was the half way point (from a time perspective), we turned around and headed down river. Got back to the dock with seconds to spare. We both totally enjoyed being on the water. Would have loved another 150 hp (but that's not going to happen, I know) but there's enough power to get on plane, there's GREAT things to view on the waterfront (thus the riverwalk), and it's just a bit different. Looking for something fun to do by the river walk? Try out the water bikes! It's definitely a workout, but worth it to see the views from the water side. We booked and reserved our bikes online, i believe there is a discount if you do book online, but do not take my word for it. You have the option to have the bikes for 1 hour or 2. Honestly, 1 was good enough for me. Lol. There is no way you will tip over in the bike and there is a basket that will keep your belongings dry. The instructor will provide the instructions for you and areas you are allowed to go to. Very simple and easy. Just make sure you stay aware of boats, paddle boards, kayaks around you. Pretty sure you won't ever bump into them and boats are not allowed to go fast on the river as well. So you'll be safe. You have the option to either bike alone or with a tandem. I'm glad i did the tandem with my husband, cause I'm pretty sure i would've given up if i was by myself. Haha. read more

Great place to take a date for something different or to take the family and even the family dog. The the water bikes and the kayaks, or biyacks as they call them, are great exercise and a nice way to see the city from the water for a low cost per hour rental. There is also boat dock parking nearby, the convention center is across the street, and The Sail Restaurant and Bar is on the other side. So this is a great location with plenty of good parking to come and spend a nice day on the water. Get the kids away from the computer, their phone or tablet, and the TV, and get them outdoors doing something family friendly while also getting exercise. It's a fun time for all. read more

Why paddle when you can pedal? Get a whole new feel for downtown Tampa's waterfront by climbing aboard one of the Tampa Bay Water Bike Company's cool cruisers. They also have kayaks that are propelled by peddling. The sensation of coasting along water is nothing but smooth sailing. Even when the water got churned a bit by passing boats I stayed high and dry. The seats are comfortable, the peddles turn smoothly, there are places for water bottles/beverages and no gears, brakes or possibility of flat tires. So it really is as simple as riding a bike. I most enjoyed the peace and quiet that surrounded me throughout most of the ride. This is definitely a fair weather activity but I think it would be really spectacular just before sunset or while some fireworks were filling the sky overhead. I found this much more fun than passively riding along in a boat. And I was surprised how much attention it attracted from people strolling along the Riverwalk. These bikes are moving billboard for the business and they seemed to equally delight people of all ages - youngsters to seniors. You can stay as close to shore as you like and there are various routes to explore that extend to the Straz Center, Gasparilla Pirate Ship, Harbour Island and the Garrison Channel and Davis Island. What a cool way to see Tampa! My wife and I decided to check this place out on a Saturday morning before it got too hot outside. We got there pretty much right when they were open. One of their employees was late and so we were unable to get the water bikes at that moment like we reserved. So instead of just telling us to wait, the guy let us take their kayak out for a free 40 minutes! Everyone makes mistakes and sometime people are late for work. The water bike company made sure their mistake did not hurt their reputation. I personally enjoyed the kayaks better because you are closer to the water and you can go further faster. The water bikes are kind of slow moving and you can't as easily splash yourself with bay water when you get all hot and sweaty. There is a lot of water to cover. You can go out by Davis islands, go around Amelia arena, go behind Curtis Hixon, and a lot more....we just ran out of time and energy. Oh yeah, WE SAW DOLPHINS! They were too fast to take a picture of and post it, but we definitely saw them. Pictures don't do those kind of things justice, so you are just going to have to check it out for yourself! read more

I read about the Tampa Water Bike Company on Yelp and thought it would be a great way to explore the downtown area AND get a nice workout. I made a reservation for two water bike rentals via their online system, which I found to be very user-friendly and straight forward. They offer several discounts and package deals, to include military, senior, teacher and student discounts and package deals that save you about $5 per rental. Also, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, they offer $20 rentals, which is $10 less than regular price. Sweet! Unfortunately, you cannot combine the $20 rental price with a military discount, as we discovered, but it was worth asking! When we arrived, we were advised that our water bikes were not available. Luckily, we had not planned anything all day so we took them up on their offer to use the tandem biyak until the water bikes were available. I thought this was a great gesture on their part and commend them for it. Rather than making us wait, we were able to see what the biyaks were all about and explore the coast of Davis Island for a good 30 minutes. After our biyak trip, we came back to find that our water bikes were available. We rode those for the hour we had reserved and enjoyed our time on the water. I preferred the biyak to the water bike, simply because the water bike made my bottom hurt after a while. The biyak was more comfortable all around; however, the water bike gave us a better view since it was taller. In any case, both were great options and I would recommend this activity to anyone who is interested in spending time outside (and breaking a sweat)! read more

I snatched up a Groupon for this activity. Grabbed my activity buddy, signed some waivers and sailed on. It was my first time doing such, however, I enjoyed every minute of it. Pedaling down the water, was very refreshing and relaxing. The rays of the sun beat down on us as we chatted and pedaled along. The breeze in Tampa Bay whispered passed us while we enjoyed the great views of Straz Center and University of Tampa. There were some boaters out and about soaking up the sun as well. It was a perfect day for such wonderful recreation. The young man who was on deck was very nice. He did show good hospitality by offering us a bottled water before sailing. We took the water, my only complaint was, it was not cold. Anywho, I highly recommend this experience as something new. I would also recommend better seats for the bikes. Although they feel soft to touch, after riding for a while, your bum starts to hurt. I was a little sore the next day. LOL. But I am ready to go back again. They also offer bi-yaks (pedal kayaking) which is what I look forward to trying out on my next visit. read more

My boyfriend and I were looking for something fun to do outside on Valentine's Day in the Downtown Tampa Bay area and we were so thrilled to find Tampa Bay Water Bike Company!! Dan and Amanda (owners) were both so helpful in getting our reservation at the earliest time possible and although it was a chilly day, it definitely warmed up as we were bi-yaking our hearts away! Upon arrival, Dan helped us get situated in our bi-yak explaining to us the safety info, how it operates, and adjusting everything to our heights making for a comfortable and relaxing 2 hour ride! It is such a fun way to explore; he had great suggestions on where to go and what we could see out on the water. We chose to explore Davis Islands to "ohh and aww" at all of the beautiful houses- we even had a dolphin swim right next to us! The equipment seems well maintained, (the bi-yak even has cup holders which came in handy for my Dunkin' coffee!), the location is perfect, and the owners are such a pleasure! It is seriously so much fun and a great leg work out! Now I just have to get my boyfriend to warm up to the idea of trying out the water bikes next time...but either way, we will definitely be exploring via bi-yal again!! read more

You can reserve a boat(which is what I did) or walk up get a boat depending on availability. The guy in charge was extremely helpful and explained the whole process pretty quickly.
